Abstract

Background: The brain releases biochemical substrates, such as S100β protein, into circulation in response to ischemic conditions as a sign of damage in nerve cells and disruption of the blood-brain barrier’s integrity. Thrombolytic therapy has led to the development of many neuroprotective therapies such as protein, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and inulin, which can be added to food products. Protein, phospholipids, and inulin, have a neuroprotective impact on nerve cells in the brain and blood-brain barrier.Objective: To prove the effect of protein, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and inulin on S100β levels and clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.Materials and Methods: This study was done in a single-blind RCT. Eighteen ischemic stroke patients were randomly divided into nine subjects for the intervention group and nine subjects for the control group. The Control group received 250 ml conventional formula milk (11.8 g protein) 3 times/day. The intervention group received 250 mL commercial milk 3 rimes/day which contained 15 g protein with 128 mg phosphatidylcholine, 32 mg phosphatidylserine, and 3 g inulin. All of the groups were given hospital-standard therapy for ischemic stroke. S100β levels were measured at pre and post-intervention.Results: Pre and post S100β levels in intervention and the control group did not show any statistically difference (p = 0.777 and p = 0.096), but there was a trend of decreasing  levels of S100β in the intervention group (-24.6 + 252.0 pg/mL) versus control group (135.8 + 216.2 pg/mL).Conclusions: The addition of protein, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and inulin did not have a significant effect on S100β levels.

Abstract

Anemia is a medical condition in which the hemoglobin level less than normal. Normal Hb levels in adolescent girls are >12 g/dl. Anemia in adolescent girls is still relatively high. Impact of anemia can be caused the body to become thin and drastically lose weight, shortness, constant illness, and anemia. This literature review identified factors that are consistently associated with the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. This research method is a literature review by collecting various databases from Pubmed, Science Direct, Proquest, and Google Scholar. The selection of articles were limited from 2014-2019 and 20 articles were found. Factors that are consistently associated with the incidence of anemia in adolescents girls include the level of knowledge of girl adolescents regarding anemia, iron intake, nutritional status and the duration of menstruation, BMI, category of residence (rural/urban), dietary habits, and infections such as malaria. It is necessary to provide continuous blood supplement tablets to young women from the government and schools so that they can meet their nutritional needs and further research is expected to be able to use different research designs such as case control and cohorts in order to prove a stronger causal relationship, this is because there have been quite a number of studies related to risk factors for the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Prevalensi Infeksi Menular Seksual (IMS) di Indonesia masih mengalami tren kenaikan kasus dan dapat ditularkan dari individu ke individu lain yang sering bergonta-ganti pasangan seksual. Anggota TNI muda (terutama usia 20-30 tahun) merupakan aparatur negara yang sering jauh bertugas dari keluarga, menjadi salah satu penyumbang dalam meningkatkan prevalensi IMS. Hal tersebut dikarenakan aktifitas dan hasrat seksualnya mengalami naik turun pada usia tersebut. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan sikap anggota TNI Muda dalam memahami terkait pentingnya kesehatan reproduksi dan bahaya IMS di Brigif Raider 9 Kostrad Jember. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah melakukan prestest, melakukan penyuluhan, melakukan posttest dan melakukan ice breaking. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah hasil terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara rata-rata pengetahuan dan sikap sebelum dan sesudah edukasi (p=0,000). Dimana rata-rata nilai pengetahuan prettest yaitu 7,33 dan meningkat menjadi 8,40 pada posttest. Sedangkan rata-rata nilai sikap pretest yaitu 31,07 dan meningkat menjadi 36,20 pada postest. Oleh karena itu, instansi TNI dapat melakukan tindak lanjut berupa skrining yang berkelanjutan untuk mendeteksi IMS secara dini khususnya kepada anggota TNI.

Abstract

Introduction: Proper macronutrient intake, including carbohydrates, protein, and fat, is essential for promoting overall well-being and enhancing physical performance. Adequate food intake is helpful to replenish energy stores during physical activities such as training, competition, or recovering.Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the energy and macronutrient intake habits of male volleyball players who received nutritional counseling as an intervention.Methods: This study was an experimental with one group pre and post test design, conducted on ten male volleyball athletes aged 16-22 years in Jember Regency. The data collection included anthropometric measurements, hydration state, biochemical status, and the the participant's food intake. Data of food intake was gathered on two occasions, specifically prior and following the intervention using 24-hour food recall questionnaire.Result: There was no significant difference in the mean intake of energy, protein, fa t, and carbohydrates before and after the intervention (p>0.05), however there was a tendency towards an increase in the mean intake of energy, protein, and carbohydrates after the intervention. Conclusion: Nutritional counseling proves beneficial in enhancing the energy and macronutrient consumption of male volleyball athletes, although not statistically significant.

Abstract

The dietary intake of athletes is crucial for attaining peak performance, sustaining physical fitness, preventing the risk of injury, and speeding post-competition recovery. A prevalent issue among athletes is insufficient food consumption relative to their nutritional requirements, resulting from a limited understanding of proper dietary practises. The objective of this study is to increase athletes' understanding of dietary consumption through the provision of nutritional guidance to athletes. The study was conducted on ten volleyball atheletes who were in the process of training for the PORPROV (Pekan Olahraga Provinsi) Jawa Timur VIII tournament in 2023. This research used the pre-experimental design method . The research design uses one group pre-test post-test design. The data collected includes body weight, height, food intake and nutritional knowledge of athletes. The analysis used a one sample t-test to see the athletes' food intake and knowledge before and after being given nutritional counseling. The results of this study were a significant increase in athletes' knowledge and energy intake (p <0.05), the average athlete knowledge score before nutritional counseling was 52.5 and after nutritional counseling it was 74.5. The mean energy consumption before to receiving nutritional counselling was 1794.6 kilocalories (kcal), while after receiving nutritional counselling, it increased to 2141.8 kcal. Providing nutrition counselling to volleyball athletes can improve their understanding of dietary requirements and improve their food consumption, finally leading to optimal performance. The government should provide nutritional counseling services for athletes

Abstract

Program pemerintah dalam memperkuat ketahanan pangan adalah salah satunya dengan melibatkan anggota PERSIT sebagai pendukung TNI dalam perannya mewujudkan kedaulatan pangan. Kendala yang biasa terjadi adalah tidak adanya keberlanjutan dari program yang telah digalakkan. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam membuat olahan daging ikan lele berupa abon dan nugget sebagai alternatif variasi menu sehari-hari. Pelatihan pembuatan olahan daging ikan lele berupa abon dan nugget pada anggota PERSIT Yonif Raider 509 Kostrad Jember telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli 2023 oleh tim. Tahapan pelatihan terdiri dari tiga tahapan yaitu 1) melakukan survei awal untuk menentukan analisis situasi dan masalah yang muncul; 2) melakukan pengembangan resep olahan abon dan nugget; 3) pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan. Target luaran yang diharapkan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah para anggota PERSIT dapat mengembangkan produk tersebut untuk kepentingan posyandu balita, menjadikan produk unggulan di Kabupaten Jember, serta dikomersialisasi kepada masyarakat luas sehingga meningkatkan pendapatan organisasi maupun individu. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan para anggota PERSIT dalam mengolah daging ikan lele menjadi abon dan nugget. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah dengan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pembuatan olahan abon dan nugget dari daging ikan lele, anggota PERSIT memiliki variasi menu olahan ikan lele sehingga dapat memperbaiki status gizi anggota keluarga terutama balita dan anak-anak. Abstract

Game edukasi digital merupakan media pembelajaran interaktif yang efektif untuk meningkatkan minat belajar siswa. Salah satu contohnya adalah game digital ular tangga, yang dapat membantu edukasi gizi seimbang serta perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat dengan cara yang menarik dan relevan dengan perkembangan zaman. Edukasi tentang pentingnya makan bergizi dan hidup sehat telah diberikan di SDN 01 Kemuning Lor, Kecamatan Arjasa, Kabupaten Jember, namun edukasi masih dilakukan melalui metode ceramah, sehingga minat belajar siswa kurang. Program pengabdian masyarakat melalui demonstrasi aplikasi game “Si Gesit” bertujuan untuk membantu sekolah mengadopsi metode pembelajaran baru yang meningkatkan motivasi belajar, melatih keterampilan penggunaan teknologi, serta mengembangkan pengetahuan dan pola pikir siswa. Program ini dirancang untuk mendorong perubahan perilaku positif dalam memilih makanan sehat dan melatih keterampilan komunikasi serta kolaborasi siswa melalui pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan. Kegiatan melibatkan 25 siswa dengan rangkaian aktivitas berupa persiapan, pemaparan materi gizi seimbang dan perilaku hidup bersih, demonstrasi game digital ular tangga, serta evaluasi pemahaman melalui pre-test dan post-test. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan siswa tentang gizi seimbang dan perilaku hidup sehat (p=0,002). Aplikasi game digital ular tangga terbukti efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa secara interaktif dan tepat sasaran. Harapannya, program ini tidak hanya meningkatkan pengetahuan, tetapi juga mendorong perubahan perilaku positif yang berkelanjutan terkait pemilihan makanan bergizi dan perilaku hidup sehat.
