Abstract

The Rancakalong People still hold tight the local culture. Generally, the Rancakalong people are living as farmer. This matter makes the Rancakalong people do the culture of Ngalaksa. This cultural purpose is gratitude of prosperity throught the rice harvest symbolized as Dewi Sri. The purpose of this research is to examine ethnobotany of plants that used in Ngalaksa culture at Rancakalong Sub-district. The method of this research uses descriptive-exploration with the technique of data collection is Pusposive Random Sampling and Snowball Sampling. Ngalaksa culture relates with ethnobotany studies because it uses rice (Oryza sativa L.) as the main plant and other plants such as kecombrang (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm), congkok (Curculigo orchioides Gaertn), cariang (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) and coconut (Cocos nucifera L.). These plants are needed in large quantities and cannot be replace by other plants.

Abstract

Human physical exercise is influenced by hemoglobin levels in the blood, stimulant testing of underlying fatigue should be tested for Hb levels. This study aims to determine the increase in stimulation and hemoglobin levels of white rats using beetroot and apple juice. The method used for stimulant testing was the endurance test using a rotarod and for measuring Hb levels using the sahli method with a hemometer. The data observed were the duration of resistance on rotarod stick which were rotated, the experimental animals used were 25 animals divided into 5 treatment groups with each group of 5 rats namely: group of beetroot and apple (1: 1) (2.8g: 0.63mg / 200gBB), comparison (2: 1) of (5.6g: 0.63mg / 200gBB), comparison (1: 2) of (2.8g: 1.26mg / 200gBB), negative control (-) (CMC-Na 0.5%) and positive  control (+) caffeine 20 mg / 200g BB. Dosage treatment is carried out in one day.The results showed that the combination of beetroot and apple juice had an increase in stimulant and hemoglobin levels of white rats with the most effective dose for stimulant enhancement and Hb levels were found in the second dose compared to beetroot and apple juice (2: 1) 5.6 g / 200gBB: 0.63 g / 200gBB.

Abstract

Handling of bulk cooking oil is not good, cause a decrease in the quality of cooking oil when in storage in the selling process. Wrapping packaging of bulk cooking oil that is not appropriate and direct interaction with the sun and microbes can change the quality of cooking oil. Besides the fabrication of bulk cooking oil, to make people uneasy. For it is necessary for the analysis of bulk cooking oil quality on a variety of storage (closed and open) in the traditional markets in in Jabotabek Area through the physical trials and chemical tests. Analysis physics for odor and color is done organoleptic. Chemical analysis of water content using gravimetric method. Determined acid number by titration of alkalimetri with NaOH. Peroxide number determined with Tio 0.02 N. For example pelicans oil test alcohol 5N KOH.Based on this research, to test the physics of odor obtained normal results for sealed storage and smelling a bit stale at week 4 and to 5 in the open storage, while the average for the color of pale yellow oil, yellow, until golden brown. To test the chemical in terms of water content and acid number in the average closed storage meets the requirements of ISO - 3741 - 2002, while the open storage of the average moisture content does not meet the requirements for the number of acid still meet the quality standards II. The results of the analysis of peroxide numbers in a closed storage on average to meet the requirements of ISO - 3741 - 1995, while the open storage do not meet the standards. Abstract

Waste treatment technology is not less important for the business of Slaughterhouse (RPH). Various businesses and technologies have been done to handle this waste problem, especially for the rumen waste in RPH. One of them is utilizing the waste as an organic fertilizer. Bovine rumen bacteria are bacteria that originate from the contents of bovine rumen, with simple and inexpensive development techniques. This bacterium helps farmers in improving and developing an insightful agriculture on the preservation of soil fertility and natural resources. The study aims to identify bacteria and find out the diversity, properties, and characteristics of bacteria from the liquid organic content of rumen cows. Methods undertaken by observing colony morphology, colony selection and purification, Gram staining, spores staining, and biochemical testing. Of the four isolates identified there are two bacterial genus, three isolates RS1a, RS2a, RS2b including the genus Bacillus sp. aerobic and an isolates of RS1b including the genus Lactobacillus sp. the facultative of anaerobic. The four isolates of bacteria are able to grow optimum at pH 6.5 and the temperature of 370C is homofermentative.

Abstract

The cross and longitudinal section anatomical structure of Aquilaria malaccensis, A. beccariana, A. decipiens, A. microcarpa and Gyrinops versteegii has been studied using paraffin method following Sass (1951) as well as paraderm section and maceration as described in Cutler (1978). The results showed that there were differences in the type of crystal, the number of neighboring cells, the epidermal cells form on upper and lower leaf surfaces and in stomatal index. Further more the differences were also appeared at fingers pith and niche forms. The stomatal index percentage was different significantly with the highest percentage found in A. decipiens 8.47%, followed by A. beccariana 6.73%; A. microcarpa 3.84%; A. malaccensis 3.49% and the lowest percentage was G. versteegiiie 1.60%.Key words: Aquilaria spp., Gyrinops versteegii, plant anatomy, stomatal index

Abstract

This research was aimed to create aromatic candle, infused with cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii) bark essential oil, which is a potential repellant for house fly (Musca domestica).  The distillation of akar wangi samples was carried out at the Spice and Aromatic Research Unit by vapor distillation method for 9-12 hours. The aromatic candles were based on a mixture of solid paraffin and stearin in a 2:8 proportion, respectively, enriched with fragrant root bark essential oils with 5 formulas, namely F1 (placebo), F2 (fixative), F3 (1% essential oil), F4 (2% essential oil), and F5 (3% essential oil).  The repellency test was carried out by inserting 20 house flies in a of 50x50x50 cm container that contains a lighted aromatic candle according to the doses mentioned above, and shrimp scalps located 15 cm from the candle that functions as a bait. The calculated parameters were the hourly number of flies that were allured to the bait for 6 hours, which were related to the candle’s repellency and the house fly’s preference of candle. The repulsion ability result were 89.724%, 75.28%, 68.06%, 49.17%, 9.72% for F5, F4, F3, F2, and F1, respectively. The result also showed that the F4 sample was the most preferred sample.

Abstract

In Bogor district as an Indonesian taro central production, recorded that it has almost 57000 ton taro each year in 2008. Bogor’s taro which is abundant in Bogor is still limited its use. Diversity the use of taro necessary to maximize available resources and make it becoming alternative processed products in market. Carbohydrat content in Bogor’s taro depends on data from Nutrition Directorate of Ministry of Health in 2008 is 23.79%, the high content of carbohydrate makes taro can be processed to a characteristic food such as tapai. This research aims to knowing type of taro’s effect to product and optimum fermentation time to make best tapai product. Research method begins with making tapai from three kind of taro, they are bentul taro, mentega taro and sutra taro. Then it fermentated at different time length, 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours. After get the best product that liked by the panellist, conducted quality testing seen from moisture, ash content, total fat, protein, pH, reduction sugar, carbohydrate content, alcohol content and dietary fibre. Tapai bentul taro with fermentation length 48 hours is chosen and it use as a remain variable. The result of chemical analysis tapai bentul taro (B1) are moisture 59.27%, ash content 2.11%, total fat 1.78%, protein 2.96%, pH 5.48, reduction sugar 12.13%, carbohydrate 21.94%, alcohol 6.03% and dietary fibre 2.28%.

Abstract

Terestrial orchid research has been conducted in the area of Sicike-cike Nature Park, North Sumatra. The research was conducted in with exploration method. No less than 12 types of terestrial orchids are found in this region, namely Spathoglottis plicata Blume, Spathoglottis aurea Lindl., Phaius callosus (Blume) Lindl., Calanthe triplicata Ames, Calanthe pulchra (Blume) Lindl., Calanthe chrysoglossoides J.J. Sm., Calanthe aurantiaca Ridl., Cymbidium ensifolium (L.) Sw., Arundina graminifolia (D.Don) Hochr., Neuwiedia zollingeri Rchb.f. var. zollingeri Rchb.f., Paphiopedilum tonsum (Rchb.f.) Stein, and Liparis sp. All types of orchids are then grown in the nursery of Samosir Botanical Gardens for ex-situnya conservation efforts. Two months after planting almost all species grow well, even some of them have produced flowers. Orchids A. graminifolia, S. aurea and S. plicata are the best-growing species.Key words : Terestrial orchid, Sicike-cike Nature Park, conservation, Samosir Botanical Garden

Abstract

Acrylamide is a chemical compound found in roasted coffe at temperature above 120⁰C. potential to couse cancer in humans. The coffee used by processed at home in the village of Betara sub-district, Tanjung Jabung Barat, Kuala Tungkal, Jambi. The purpose of this study is to compare acrylamide content traditional coffee powder with the high performance liquid chromatography method (HPLC). The phase of motion used acetonitril : phosphate acid (80:20 v/v), using C18 or oktadesil silica (ODS) with size 250 nm × 4,6 mm,injection volume 20 μl, detector genesys 10S UV-Vis at wavelength 203 nm. Acrylamide is ground coffee was identified at retention time (tR) ± 5,825 minute. This method is proven valid with linearity y = 20717x + 28752, correlation coefficient (r) = 0,998%, the limit of detection 0, 32109 ppm and the limit of quantitation 1,07031 ppm, orecision with 2%. Acrylamide levels in coffee powder 1 to 4 respectively are 72,065 μg/g sample (1), 66,922 μg/g sample (2), 60,215 μg/g sample (3), and 61,422 μg/g sample (4). The four coffee samples showed that the acrylamide levels of each sample exceeded the safe limit of consumption of acrylamide released by FDA is 2 μg/g.

Abstract

Salmonella enteritidis contamination in chicken meat causes chicken meat to rapidly decay. The use of chemical preservatives is very harmful, therefore the use of natural materials is recommended because it is safer to consume for humans. One of them is using Melinjo seed skin which has antibacterial power. The purpose of the study is to find out the activity of Melinjo seed bark extract (Gnetum gnemon) in inhibiting the growth of Salmonella enteritidis that can be used as a natural preservative in chicken meat. The first stage of the study was by extracting Melinjo seed bark using ethanol 96% with maceration method for 6 days. Activity test of Melnjo seed bark extract against Salmonella enteritidis using method of disc paper with a variation of the treatment of 25%, 50%, 75% and tetracycline positive control. The observed parameter is the measurement of the inhibited region Diameter (DDH) and the phytochemical test against Melinjo seed bark extract. The research results for the testing of the area Diameter of the hhibited region obtained the most effective concentration of 75% in the diameter of the area of the barrier of 10.3 mm and categorized with antimicrobial power levels of moderate sensitivity as well as can be used as natural preservatives in chicken meat. Phytochemical test results indicate the presence of compound flavonoids, tannins, saponins and triterpenoid.
