Abstract

In recent years, advancements in technology have significantly influenced various aspects of education, including language learning and writing skills. One notable technological tool that has gained prominence is the translator tool, which offers the potential to bridge language barriers and enhance writing processes for students. This background section delves into the growing significance of translator tools in the context of writing skills development, discussing their features, benefits, and potential impact on students' writing performance and processes. Writing skills have long been recognized as a fundamental component of education, enabling individuals to effectively communicate ideas, opinions, and information. Traditionally, writing instruction has encompassed grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and organization. However, with the advent of digital tools and platforms, the landscape of writing instruction has transformed. Technology has introduced innovative ways to engage learners and support their language learning journey. Translator tools, often powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, offer the ability to translate text from one language to another with varying degrees of accuracy. These tools have evolved from basic word-for-word translations to more sophisticated models capable of understanding context and producing coherent translations. Some of the prominent translator tools include Google Translate, DeepL, and Microsoft Translator. The integration of translator tools into writing instruction has shown potential benefits for students, particularly those learning a second language or aiming to communicate across linguistic boundaries

Abstract

This study explores the impact of the storytelling teaching style on the reading comprehension of elementary school students at the School of Life, GSJA El-Roy, Semarang. It was discovered that reading comprehension in English for elementary students in 5th and 6th grades was still too low, and students' reading skills still needed to be improved. In addition to improving reading skills, storytelling fosters critical thinking and helps children understand the order and structure of stories. To assess the effectiveness of the storytelling method in enhancing students' reading skills, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and set a success scale above 8.5, measuring students' reading comprehension using various English vocabulary. A test was administered to 10 students, and the results revealed an average success scale of 9.3, indicating a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension skills. The writer suggest that future research need to conduct a follow-up assessment after an extended period would allow researchers to determine the long-term effects of the storytelling-based teaching strategy on students' reading comprehension skills. Keywords: Storytelling teaching style, reading comprehension skills, classroom action research

Abstract

Communication occurs in contexts that cannot be separated from culture. Therefore, it can be claimed that culture needs to be included in language teaching and learning. The cultural content of the teaching materials then plays an important role in how culture is presented in EFL contexts, especially in textbooks. In the first of the study, we create a list of criteria from students how some class consists of several students who have different backgrounds where culture are included; religion, ethnicity, gender, and age for the analysis of cultural content in English textbooks based on student's perception and evaluation of the cultural content in textbooks. The researcher then selected a media used in junior high school to determine to what extent local cultural content is integrated into junior English textbooks and find the evaluation result of the media designed.

Using a qualitative approach, the scripts were collected as the instrument and then analyzed using the data analysis method proposed by Leavy (2022). The results show that thriller and mystery films are the chosen genres. While focusing on the hospitality industry, students chose housekeeping, front office, and food and beverage. There is more than one main character developed in the film's stories in many different settings such as hotels, cruises, businesses, and universities. The script lasts six to ten minutes depending on the total number of pages in the script. This study shows that the script can meet the short film standards for the hospitality industry.

Abstract

This descriptive and qualitative study aims to assess the relevance of the students' materials to the revised Bloom's taxonomy cognitive domain and the prominent cognition aspect in the lesson book. This study focuses on the English student's book "International Communication 3," brought out by American Corner UNTAN. The proof was reviewed using a proof inventory diagram based on the cognitive dimension to categorize the action as either a query or an instructional activity. The outcome revealed that the textbook has 102 activities. The tasks were divided into 80 (78.4%) remembering, 4 (3.9%) understanding, 10 (9.8%) applying, 4 (3.9%) analyzing, 4 (3.9%) evaluating, and 1 (0.98%) creating. The main bulk task was remembering the lowest section of the revised Bloom taxonomy's cognitive pitch. The quantity of low- and high-order thinking skill tasks in every unit is also variable. As a result, it is essential to do more than employ an English lesson book as a teaching tool to upgrade students' critical thinking skills.
