Abstract

Pokemon Go is a new phenomenon in the game industry. Within a month from its launching, this game had been played by more than 75 million users. The game has been seen as an opportunity in marketing communication by several brands. This study seeks to find the use of the game in marketing communication activities by analyzing it with the concept of marketing mix by Belch and Belch (2012) and Horwitz’s classification in game advertisement (2004) in Skalski, Bracken, and Buncher (2011). The literature review explores several documents and promotional materials which used Pokemon Go and analyzed them based on the concepts above. The study shows that many brands only used the popularity of Pokomen Go but did not officially establish affiliation with Pokemon Go. When Pokemon Go was launched, McDonald was the first to become the official partner of the game. The analysis also finds the expansive collaboration opportunities of the brand in digital marketing communication and in-game advertisement as long as they can combine the ideas, creativity, and the technology. Abstract

The availability of internet service in Indonesia has enabled online learning. Through the portal provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (http://belajar.kemdikbud.go.id), internet user from all backgrounds can access various learning materials. Rumah Belajar portal is an online learning media which purposively developed for teachers and students to easily access learning materials. This portal facilitates interactivity between teachers and students with the portal. Through this portal, students and teachers can access learning materials, perform interactive simulation, communicate and interact with education communities. This research aims to explore the influence of technology acceptance on the usability of Rumah Belajar portal. The result shows a strong relation between internet technology acceptance as learning media by user and the goal and attitude of informants in accessing the portal. The user perception on the usability of Rumah Belajar portal has a close correlation with satisfaction, download delay, and the content. Abstract

he advancement of communication media and technology requires audience to have the knowledge and skill of media literacy for them to use the media in an appropriate way. For that purpose, media literacy trainings with various forms, materials and purposes, have been done frequently in many areas of Indonesia. This research aims to find the relation between the goals of media literacy training and important aspects in media literacy skill. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. The result shows that many media literacy trainings in Indonesia have not been consistent in adjusting the goals and the essential aspects of media literacy skill. It means the conceptual understanding and study of media literacy have not adequately performed by the activists. It is expected that the result of this study could encourage similar research by elaborating theory and concept of media literacy which can be used to develop the curriculum of media literacy training program. Abstract

According to Peter Vorderer’s Theory of Media Entertainment, one of people’s motivations to consume entertainment media is to escape from daily problems and routines, or known also as escapism. For example, when people are feeling bored, they can distract their mind to reduce the stress level by playing game, watching television, and listening to music. According to the theory, people expect to experience enjoyment when consuming entertainment. Escapism motivation expects enjoyment experience to happen at the time of playing game and afterward. Beside of assessing the influence of escapism motivation in consuming experience, this research aims to reveal people’s expectation right after consuming the entertainment media. This study is based on the assumption that people have different feeling when and after consuming the media. After media consumption, people might feeling sorry for not using the time wisely, feeling tired and getting more bored. Keywords: interactive media, digital addiction, communication theory

Abstract

he number of press labor union in Indonesia is relatively small. Moreover, not so many unions successfully perform their roles in media companies. This research aims to find the factors which cause the failure of the press labor union. Presumably, press labor unions fail to show their teeth because of the non-existent class consciousness and they chose wrong communication strategy. This study use qualitative approach and interpretive case study method. The factors that determine the success of press labor union will be analyzed through Marx’ theory of class consciousness and the proactive and reactive approaches which used by the union. The result shows that the press labor unions have been implementing common communication strategy, but they have to face organizational problem which affect the communication activities. Abstract

Friendship is one of human most precious relationship which is voluntary and built in the principle of being there for each other. To establish an intimate relationship, each has to know the other better so the impersonal relationship will turn to personal through some stages. This study seeks to explain how dyadic friendship between male and female can develop through openness, which will be assessed through the Social Penetration Theory. The research uses case study methods with qualitative approach and post-positivist paradigm. The data were gathered through observation, indepth interview and document study, and presented in a descriptive manner. The subjects of this study are three friendships between opposite gender. It can be concluded that the penetration in a dyadic friendship between male and female is developed through some stages, in which self disclosure play an important role in determining the depth and the width of the relationship. The relationship duration can not fully guarantee the quality of the relationship. Abstract

This study examined how Internet through online news media is used to influence political participation and political efficacy. Scholars believe that the existence of Internet could have a significant impact on broadening political participation and political efficacy. This research is written based on the quantitative approach. Questionnaire items were employed to find out the relationships between online news media, political participation and political efficacy. The samples used in this research are Indonesian students in Taiwan. As predicted, the findings indicated that Internet usage, particularly online news media, was positively associated with higher levels of political participation and also political efficacy among Indonesian students in Taiwan. Abstract

Sepak bola merupakan salah satu olah raga yang popular di seluruh dunia, baik nasional maupun internasional. Indonesia menempati urutan kedua sebagai negara yang paling mencintai bola dengan prosentase sebesar 77% penduduk di Indonesia menggemari sepak bola. Kehadiran kelompok supporter sepak bola ini memiliki dampak yang positif dan negative. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Untuk mengetahui apakah komunikasi interpersonal dan komunikasi kelompok berpengaruh terhadap kohesivitas kelompok pada supporter persebaya Korwil Suramadu. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian causal. Populasi dan sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah Supporter Persebaya Korwil Suramadu sebanyak 78 orang. Teknik sampling dalam penelitian ini menggunakan non probability sampling. Teknik analisis penelitian ini menggunakan analisis regreai linear berganda. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Komunikasi Interpersonal dan Komunikasi Kelompok mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap Kohesivitas Kelompok pada Supporter Persebaya Korwil Suramadu. Abstract

Humans need to communicate to each other to survive. One of the functions of communication is to encourage people to interact with people from different cultures. Culture and communication are inseparable. Each culture has a way of communicating differently from each other. Some intercultural communication theories focus on the phenomena of culture shock and stereotype. Graduated from high school, at the age ranging between 17 to 18, many teenagers continue their study abroad. Some to the United States as the second favorite destination for Indonesian students. This study discusses the possibility culture shock and stereotype experienced by Indonesian students who are studying in America. Using qualitative research methods, the results show that each individual had different levels and ways of adaptation in facing the culture shock they experienced. The stereotype experienced by the Indonesian students is not necessarily lead to discriminative. Indonesian students who wish to continue their studies in America are advised to communicate with an open mind, as not everyone can easily blend in to different cultures. Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world’s tourist destinations. Therefore, Indonesian tourism must be built and developed. Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Borobudur, as one of the tourist attractions with its beauty and grandeur, becomes the main attraction for all people. The purpose of the research is to find out whether public relations activities conducted by the TWC can increase the image of the temple or not. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data was gathered through interview and observation. The sources of this research were visitors and public relations officer of TWC. The result of this research shows that the internal activities conducted by public relations officer of Taman Wisata Candi Borubudur such as employee relations, field trip, internal magazine, personal contact and sport, made the employees felt appreciated and cared and this indirectly creates a sense of belonging from the employees towards the institution. The external activities conducted, such as customer relations, community and pers relations, indirectly influenced the visitor perceptions towards the image of TWC Borobudur in terms of service to the community and also improve the relationship with media. It shows that the internal and external activities carried out by the public relations of TWC Borobudur give positive impact and indirectly improve the image of TWC Borobudur among the society.
