Abstract

This study focuses on the communications that was built by the Public Relations (PR) in East Jakarta Administration City Government with the Press community through their roles in the administrative activities of government. The purpose of this study was to determine the PR activities of East Jakarta Administration City Government in establishing good communication with the Press as the government's partner in promoting the various activities that are beneficial to society. The research method used in this study is a case study (case study). The results showed that the role of Public Relations of East Jakarta Administration City Government in establishing good communication with the press, is done through activities, such as press conferences, press releases, and press gathering. All activities are done well, so as to create a communication and a good relationship, in any cooperation between the Press and the Government of East Jakarta, making it easier for local governments in disseminating various work programs.

Abstract

News program is one of Indonesia's most popular programs although in practice the program is still unable to compete with entertainment programs. Redaksiana program has successfully captured the heart of Indonesian audiences with achieving a high rating. This program displays different information to the news program in general, so it is more interesting to watch. Similar to other media, television program Redaksiana on Trans7 presents the news as the result of selection, construction, and reconstruction. Research problem studied is how Redaksiana constructs the news and what frames it uses. This research was conducted using qualitative method through the Pan and Kosicky framing model analysis. The structure of news framing elements studied was schematic, script, thematic, and rhetorical. The results were seen from the schematic structure and news scripts “Lose in votes, Legislator Candidate Blocked the Village Road” according to the script writing television news. Redaksiana featured the elements of 5Ws + 1H as the main element of the news. However, the frame was clearly visible in thematic and rhetorical. The way Redaksiana wrote the fact (thematic) and how Redaksiana emphasized the fact (rhetorical) of news writing indulge sensational elements. It is then pointed out as a factor that makes the news “Lose in votes, Legislator Candidate Blocked the Village Road” interesting to watch.

Abstract

Machine translation is one of the technological advances that can help the translator to do the translation functions easier and faster. The purpose of this article is to analyze whether the machine translation can be relied upon as a substitute translator. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the existing machine translation cannot replace a translator because of its limitations, especially on understanding the context and cultural situation in a nation. Therefore, this machine is only in assisting the process of translation. The method used is the literature analysis. It analyzes the book translated by translator and translated by translation machine and it turns out that the book translated by a machine is not accurately comprehended.

Abstract

This paper aims to understand the similarities and differences between Chinese and Indonesia Culture. In order to achieve this goal, five culture aspect were analyzed. They are (1) greeting and farewell; (2) thanks and apologies; (3) honorifics and Qianci; (4) praise and politely refuse; (5) dinner and gifts. The research used comparative study method. By analyzing the five aspects of the Indonesia and Chinese culture, research concludes that the Chinese and Indonesian culture have similar common greetings and farewell, honorifics and low self-esteem, praise and politely refuse, dinner and gifts; and Chinese people have not left taboo.

Abstract

Indonesia has many ornaments given that various cultures born in this archipelago. Variety of ornaments that characterizes a region refers to such cultural relics from the past. Excavation of the ornaments through the relics of the past with a rich in visual such as Borobudur may lead to the birth of the spirit of love of local product which is based on culture and tradition. Latitavistara relief which is part of the past Buddhist fragment became the main object in extracting visual object to bear a new visual language in the form of ornaments. The design of the ornament with a new visual appearance only used the visual elements of the flora in Latitavistara relief classified according to its clump type. The method used in this visual design referred to the simplification of the form leading to the symbolization inherent to the religious philosophy of Borobudur. Division levels in the pursuit of perfection contained in Borobudur were basis for determining the variations of ornament design generated. The results of this ornament design are expected to be applied into other visual disciplines which is not always be just a mere craft product. The spirit of recycling cultural heritage and traditions of the past to be a creative product with modern innovation becomes inseparable part of this design.

Abstract

Chinese culture is one has formed the Indonesian culture nowadays and has become an integral part of the Indonesian culture. Although it is still originated from their ancestors, Chinese culture in Indonesia has become local and has had assimilation process with other local cultures. In order to preserve the physical structure, documentation in Digital Photography media is important so that this result in highly artistic and prime quality. Photography media is very effective to show visually the Chinese culture in Indonesia, especially in Tegal in details, as well as the artistic side in taking picture technique. It is an early step to introduce old and well preserved culture heritage, especially Chinese culture in Tegal.

Abstract

Flipping a classroom is not only recording classroom lesson into a video and bringing homework into the classroom. It is a whole new method with a lot better result compared to the traditional method. In western countries such as the US, flipping a classroom is already becoming a new method adopted by many different schools and universities. This paper tries to explore the possibility of flipping a classroom for learning foreign language at BINUS University by comparing it with the recent practices and findings in the western countries. After the analysis it can be concluded that this method can be applied at BINUS University but on several conditions such as the improvement of infrastructures, and the teacher’s awareness and understanding to optimize their understanding about flipped learning.

Abstract

In Japan there is a culture of gift-giving, known as zōtōbunka. This culture is done every year in summer and winter to honor superiors or to maintain relationships between relatives. With the development of times and the incidence of financial crisis in the 1990s, this culture began to be abandoned by the Japanese because of various factors including the economic factors of capitalist society. This study analyzed using descriptive analytical approach with the main data corpus of books, electronic books, websites on the internet, news articles, magazines, and so on. Culture of gift-giving in Japan is explained also with cultural history that originated in China and the trend in Japan today. The conclusion of this paper described the problems in Japan's culture of gift-giving in addition to economic problems, the problem stems from a change or transition from an agrarian society to capitalist society.

Abstract

Event is still a useful media for building good image for certain communities. In addition to functioning as a media ritual, an event which is published through a live broadcast mass media will also increase the brand image of a particular product. Research question in this article is: what are the kinds of the TKI Event held in Taiwan in 2013 and what elements of the event that brings TKI enthusiastic in Taiwan? The method used in this study is a qualitative interpretive. The data was collected through direct observations and impressions of social media such as youtube as well as literature from the source journal from previous research literature or books that support research topic. Conclusion of the study states that the type of event held by workers in Taiwan is a talent contest and stage entertainment. While elements of the event that brings enthusiastic for workers is an event that displays imagery figure, and the appearance of celebrities.

Abstract

This study used comparative analysis to understand the similarities and differences of basic structure adverbial word order between Chinese language and Bahasa Indonesia. This study also analyzed Indonesian student’s common errors in learning adverbial word order, and the result found that student’s common error are adverbial clause of time, place, and preposition as adverbial word order. This research suggests teachers must emphasize the differences in the basic word order between Chinese language and bahasa Indonesia language first, then teach the differences of adverbial word. Teachers shoud encourage students to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, so they can overcome the differences between Chineseand Indonesia language, and reduce the errors in learning.
