In learning a second language or foreign language (L2), learners should master the competences. Normally, L2 learners first should master the linguistic competence which includes the mastery of vocabularies, pronunciation, and grammar. The study is to find out the syntax error made by L2 learners in conversation as well as to find out the exchanging information. The data were the recording conversation of Visual Communication Design students first semester of Binus University joining English Entrant. Error analysis was used to analyze the data. There are two points of view to analyze the data: syntax from taxonomy and exchanging information. Taxonomy employs the error in omission, addition, misinformation, and mis-ordering. Exchanging information point of view employs the error in finite element and mood. The result shows that L2 learners made some errors in grammar and exchanging information because they are influenced by the L1. They tend to transfer from L1 to L2 rather than thinking to create the utterances in L2.

This article aims to show that the spiritual aspect must be noted in the leadership because every leader is always marked with oath of office in carrying out her/his position. So, how leaders are accountable, it is not only on the horizontal level but also at the vertical level. Research was done with phenomenological and literature studies about the practice of leadership faced with a number of theories about leadership and then to be synthesized the more authentic leadership than just imaging or false branding leadership. This article was based on the assumption that leadership (including in the political sphere) was merely a sociological problem that kicked out spiritual aspects, while in the historical development of leadership, it had never been excluded from the spiritual dimension, whether in the form of manipulative (just because fed people understand that leadership came from the “sky”/gods). So then, a king acted tyrannical and led to the birth of authentic leadership as popularized as servant leadership. This article concluded that authentic leadership will give more benefit to develop the life system as well as the purpose of leadership itself rather than a merely apparent leadership which actually hurts the members (people) because of the failure to meet the expectations of the members (people).

Crisis is part of life that cannot be avoided but must be overcome. A crisis tends to cause problems and will have an impact on emotional attitude that should be taken. Most people face a crisis with a negative attitude because they consider the presence of crisis as obstacle in life. Negative emotional attitude will bring people to action breakout, even worse, actions that will make life more miserable. In accordance with the will of God, we are expected to overcome the crisis, though it is a barrier in life, with a positive emotional attitude supported by the spiritual attitude so that the crisis has positive impact. Spiritual attitude shows that someone who understands God's word and will for sure be able to resolve the problem, find a way out or strength to face the crisis. So, the crisis is not the bottleneck of life but a turning point towards improvement that gives goodness.

It requires a long process for an artist to find the distinctiveness in a pen scratch with full of confidence. Besides determining the choice of the type of pen that will be used, the choice of the type of hatching used also determines the identity of signature scratch in the drawing. Referring to the strong character of a pen scratch as a preliminary sketch of a work, a great artist and designer will produce great masterpiece that will be in a work of painting, sculpture and visual communication design. Research methodology study uses data collection techniques from some of the literature, observations, and analysis of different forms of shading and its influence on the results of the drawing. Research results can be used as a template for the development of the media pen drawing techniques.

Since it was created in 19th century, film has been developed into one important communication media. The successful of communication depends on how the story was told; therefore many story structure theories were created. Unfortunately, those theories are rarely applied. Literature and field studies were performed to delve deeper in story structure theories and their implementations, starts from 3 acts structure, 8 sequences structures, and hero’s journey. Based on observation, these theories have been used in many box office films. Those theories are flexible, not strict formulas more likely the guidance maps to compose story. Structure story theories are the frameworks. But the content in the framework depends on each individual’s creativity. Therefore, using those theories won’t make our story generic. Story structure theories are tools to provoke, encourage, boost, and develop creativity. By implementing various structure story theories, film industries are expected to produce films with high-quality story that can be better in conveying any particular, messages.

Teaching English Entrant, the first level of General English lecture for BINUS University students, needs a specific method because normally the number of students in one class is more than 50 students. Besides, the four skills of language and business communication have to be taught simultaneously in one semester. This paper is aimed to describe one method used at BINUS University to teach English Entrant classes: Cell Group method which students are divided into cell groups. This method is supported by Binusmaya, an online resource used in teaching learning at BINUS University. Through this resource, each member of the cells has the opportunity to access Binusmaya forum where he/she can upload, download, share and discuss material or problems raised. Each cell is also responsible to write reports about its activities. Based on the reports, the teacher who has a role as a moderator and source in both Binusmaya forum and classroom has to lead the cells discussion in the classroom.
