Abstract

The term ‘signage’ sometimes has been confused with the term ‘sign or symbol’, although the term signage is actually a theme which has consistency and also covers an area from a specific environment and mood. Signage has been designed to inform about location and direction of interior and exterior environment. In general, design system and the use of signage, such as graphic standard, material and the positioning, has been organized by international standardization from every country in the world. One of the most important categories of signage is the application of signage in highways. The study is about signage from historical background, category, color scheme, design and human factor approach; from psychological physics, social culture, to the connectivity with the value and products’ characteristic. Human factor comprehension is also one of the most important elements in signage design process. Each perspective or perception from highway user and their reaction about the signage has been conditioned by a specific characteristic of human, such as from biophysics-psyche, socio-culture, spiritual cosmologis transcendental with its five senses. Human factor as a user has an important role to obtain the best solution or good design solution for the community who use that signage.

Abstract

These days, development in camera has become very fast and has made the society easier to develop photography as their hobbies. This can happen especially with the digital era that does not need time to process the films and to print the photos. Nowadays, photographers just need to shoot, check the results, and delete them if they are not satisfied with the outcome, or, they can save them when the pictures meet their expectations. Basically, this really has made both advanced and amateur photographers easy to work better. However, if the user does not completely understand the basic exposure techniques in photography, then it will be such a pity. They will not be able to explore the techniques that can be maximized and used to have the alternatives when it comes to working in the field. By learning these techniques, photographers can make use of the background, surroundings, and the activities of the objects, in order to achieve variations and creativity in the outcome. This is possible when they have mastered and maximized the use of diaphragm, shutter speed, ISO, and all other techniques that can be formed using these basics features.

Abstract

Psychology has long been accepted by many scholars as a science. Nevertheless, intensive readings on philosophy of science and psychology in Indonesia are rarely found. Meanwhile, there are not many professional psychologists nor psychology scientists deliver a course on Philosophy of Science in the faculties and study programs of psychology. The common argument proposed is that both psychologists and lecturers on psychology are not well qualified nor confident enough to teach the Philosophy of Science subject, as if the subject "is only taught" by philosophers or alumni of philosophy department. This phenomenon depicts that there are two worlds: the psychology world and the "other world", philosophy. This straight differentiation is certainly both unnecessary and dangerous as philosophy of science is indeed inherent in any psychological discussions. This article proposed that philosophy of science is a holistic base for the development of psychology and that the relationship between philosophy of science and psychology is close and tight. Psychologists are expected to take more part in inquiring assumptions and values in psychology and thus the simplification of psychology as a technical psychodiagnostic could be avoided.
