Abstract

Research focuses on Lois Gould’s complex position in feminism movements as displayed by the pessimistic tone in one of her works. The primary data for this research were taken from the short story X: A Fabulous Child’s Story, published in 1972. The research used qualitative method that lies on library research, and to help analyze the topic, books, websites, and scientific journals were used. Kate Millet’s concept of an androgyny was also applied in order to study further about the character of X. The result of the discussion shows that even though considered progressive for its era for its effort to deconstruct rigid gender divisions, this short story also comes with an irony with its ending. The ending demonstrates that human beings cannot be free from sex and gender barriers. This result supports the idea that Gould is trapped between the feminist and the antifeminist movement.

Abstract

Journalistic language is one kind of language used by mass media and had different characteristic with literature, scientific or conventional language in general. In journalistic language, the journalists should write according to facts and should not include their opinion; but the writing should also include informative, persuasive, and understandable meanings as general, brief, and clear. Journalistic language is a language used in public media written by considering some characteristics in order to be easily understood by the reader in general. Therefore, this article is intended to explore those characteristics and their implementation. The result shows that there are six characteristics of Journalistic language namely: brief, dense, simple, straightforward, interesting and clear. It is also found that some printed media in Indonesia haven’t met those characteristics yet.

Abstract

Jambul is a 3D animated series initiated by Animaraya, an animation studio located in South Jakarta. Taking the theme of daily lives of a bunch of kids in Maju Makmur village with all love, sorrow, and their dreams, the series has a typical look with common theme raised by other local animation producers. Nevertheless, the presence of serial Jambul must still be in the positive appreciation by both the animation industry, and in general by the people of Indonesia. In addition, because of this series appeared in all the limitations, Jambul showed up with a new standard for animated series production in Indonesia, especially in terms of production efficiency, time, cost, stories, and visual quality.

Abstract

This article describes the role of myth and some universal themes of myth, such as the creation of the world, a huge flood, death, and the end of the world. Almost all the world's myths concern this universal themes, as seen from the similarity of some of the myths followed by many cultures in the world. These myths have primary functions to human’s behavior and attitude because people keep telling almost the same myths to their predecessors. The goals for this research are (1) knowing the functions of myths with famous themes from various culture and (2) knowing the background and relationship between myths and modern culture. The result describes the relationship between the cultural myths, where the core of the story is the truth of humanity. In addition, myth acts as a template to organize their daily activities as well as human activity, but it also serves to introduce human to a greater power in the universe. The values in each story will be interpreted as rules and customs that must be met, and this has resulted in the emergence of a culture passed down from generation to generation.

Abstract

Mimesis is the representation of reality. This writing focuses on the analysis of three different representations of heaven in a short story The Preacher and His Lover by Yukio Mishima. The first representation is from the narrator’s interpretation, stressing on the existence of an ideal heaven in common people’s point of view, employing this worldly measurement in describing the ideal heaven. The second representation comes from Great Preacher with his view that the represented heaven is a place where he can enjoy the earthly and bodily enjoyment that he avoids in this world. And lastly, the representation from the Great Concubine who puts forward a contradictory (especially with the Great Preacher) point of view that the dreamed heaven is not at all the enjoyment that people experience in this world.

Abstract

Ecology is a system of balance between the elements of nature and man. Man as an animal that thinks has the concept of moral and responsibility toward himself, man with another man, and man with nature surroundings. Harmony or disharmony realization of ecological values is a concept of how to realize the appreciation of human values and the ideal of human interaction with the nature. Social norms, ethical values and social systems, the communication between people with other people and the world must take place in a positive, sustainable, and harmonious way. Technology makes man exploit nature for his own benefit. Advances in technology, on one hand, make human life easier. However, on the other hand, the progress has made natural destruction. Tourism is an activity that utilizes natural, social, and cultural resources that have broad impact on the development of tourism-related activities with the technology and activities in it. Tourism activities also have broad impact as as a multi-sectoral, multi-dimensional, and an integrated tourism industry to one and another. Ethics that puts the responsibility for Tourism Sustainability is the answers to minimize ecological damage to nature caused by the Tourism Industry.

Abstract

This research examined the main female character in the movie "Arrival" by Eric Heisserer. The focus of this research was to know the form of personality, desire, the fulfillment of desires, and to find out psychic conflict that is experienced by her by using the theory of Freud and Lacan. The research applied qualitative method by doing steps of using data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. The results show that Dr. Louise Bank has a different woman personality from other women in general, where Id dominates some of the behaviors shown her. Her desire is always followed by an effort in fulfilling; it is shown by Dr. Louise Bank who can use her intuitive, logical mind well to find some ways and solutions in the process of solving it. The most prevalent psychic conflicts in her are the fear and anxiety of new experiences and glance of visions that always keep her in an unpleasant state or condition.

Abstract

Research goal is to analyze the crisis of event implementation image of Jakarta Fair 2013, done by JIExpo which changing from people orientation to business orientation. This research is motivated by the desire of the city government to restore the original concept of the event held for the people. Research used qualitative method approach to find out more about the communications made by the city government. Information and data were obtained through interviews conducted by the visitor and direct observation in the field. Triangulation was used to test the validity of research data. Source selection was done using purposive sampling technique. The analysis used the analysis of the reduction is to collect, dispose of, and process the information and then displays the data and drawing conclusions. Results achieved that the promotional activities undertaken by JIEXPO are able to attract many people's attention to come even though it is located quite far away and charged. However, the party criticized the government organization that is not after the populist concept. Conclusion from the research organization of this annual event remains one of alternative entertainment for society in general and in particular to the people of Jakarta and surrounding areas. However, the need to accommodate the delivery of PT JIEXPO small businesses to be able to participate in the annual event. There needs to be an open conversation that is a win-win solution between PT JIExpo with the city government.

Abstract

In the early stages of gagrak puppet ornaments book designing of Surakarta, digitally process documentation is done. Source images with poor conditions are transferred through the tracing process that requires precision to produce documentation of images with sharp vector format. Diversity of gagrak puppet ornaments and accessories are tried to be compiled in a book with a grid system that is expected to be a reference book of attractive gagrak puppets ornaments in a contemporary appearance. Article is based on a literature review by selecting multiple sources of both printed and electronic and doing some sketches of various shapes observation, shapes and textures. A collection of ornaments in the notion that is processed from the 'old values' that have been there that will be applied to 'new value' a masterpiece of design that can be universally accepted and globally
