Abstract

The number of lightning stroke on the tower of the 150 kV Koto Panjang-Payakumbuh transmission line located the rocky area has been observed. The high value of tower footing resistance indicates the occurrence of the back-flashover in the transmission line at intensity of 74%. The back-flashover occurrence is dominantly triggered by the tower footing resistance value. Also, the rate of back-flashover has an effect on the value of the tower footing resistance by considering the number of electrode installations. A design is proposed for the grounding system of the tower footings in order to reduce the rate of back-flashover. The results presenting in numerical simulation indicates that it works properly after adding 4 electrodes. That is to say, installing 4 electrodes in each tower has successfully decreased the tower footing resistance value, back-flashovers rate 80% and 90-95% of present value respectively. The insulator voltage can be reduced to less than half of the present voltages as much as 30-50%. In more detail, in tower 77, the value of the tower footing resistance drops to 2.84 Ω, the flashover rate drops to 0.57/100 km/year and the insulator voltage drops to 0.99 MV when a disturbance occurs.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is simulating human intelligence processes by machines and software simulators to help humans in making accurate, informed, and fast decisions based on data analysis. The medical field can make use of such AI simulators because medical data records are enormous with many overlapping parameters. Using in-depth classification techniques and data analysis can be the first step in identifying and reducing the risk factors. In this research, we are evaluating a dataset of cardiovascular abnormalities affecting a group of potential patients. We aim to employ the help of AI simulators such as Weka to understand the effect of each parameter on the risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease (CVD). We are utilizing seven classes, such as baseline accuracy, naïve Bayes, k-nearest neighbor, decision tree, support vector machine, linear regression, and artificial neural network multilayer perceptron. The classifiers are assisted by a correlation-based filter to select the most influential attributes that may have an impact on obtaining a higher classification accuracy. Analysis of the results based on sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision results from Weka and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) is illustrated. A decision tree method (J48) demonstrated its ability to classify CVD cases with high accuracy 95.76%.

Abstract

Smartphone has gone beyond a communication hub to be a measurement device itself, thanks to various built-in sensors. This article reviewed achievements in transforming ubiquitous smartphones into cost-effective scientific instruments for educational laboratories, environmental studies, point-of-care diagnostics, home-based health monitoring, and rehabilitation. Magnetic fields were precisely measured by built-in magnetometers, leading to demonstrations for engineering and medical applications. The smartphone-based joint-angle measurement was a viable alternative to traditional goniometers. Characterizations of optical signals captured by cameras led to portable spectrophotometers and colorimeters for both educational and practical uses. Interestingly, smartphones became a platform for high-resolution microscopes and fluorescence microscopes were developed with add-on components. These smart instruments become even more attractive options in the pandemic period with limited facility and laboratory access.

Abstract

Solar energy is available abundantly, the utilization of solar energy is developing rapidly and the photovoltaic based direct current (DC) microgrid system design is under demand but the stability of the DC voltage is of most important issue, as the variation of the output DC voltage is a common problem when the load or source voltage varies, hence a regulated DC output voltage converter is proposed. This paper presents source-load-variable (SLV) voltage regulated cascaded DC/DC converter which is used to obtain regulated output voltage of 203.1 V DC at 0.4 duty ratio with ±2% voltage fluctuations for the variation in the input source voltage and ±1.5% voltage fluctuations for the variation in load resistance of the nominal value with lower output voltage ripple and without use of sub circuits. A simulation model of SLV voltage regulated cascaded DC/DC converter in LTspice XVII software environment for the assessment of converter performance at different input source voltages and load resistances are verified.

Abstract

Code analysis has discovered that memory leaks are common in the C programming language. In the literature, there exist various approaches for statically analyzing and detecting memory leaks. The complexity and diversity of memory leaks make it difficult to find an approach that is both effective and simple. In embedded systems, costly resources like memory become limited as the system’s size diminishes. As a result, memory must be handled effectively and efficiently too. To obtain precise analysis, we propose a novel approach that works in a phase-wise manner. Instead of examining all possible paths for finding memory leaks, we use a program slicing to check for a potential memory leak. We introduce a source-sink flow graph (SSFG) based on source-sink properties of memory allocation-deallocation within the C code. To achieve simplicity in analysis, we also reduce the complexity of analysis in linear time. In addition, we utilize a constraint solver to improve the effectiveness of our approach. To evaluate the approach, we perform manual scanning on various test cases: link list applications, Juliet test cases, and common vulnerabilities and exposures found in 2021. The results show the efficiency of the proposed approach by preparing the SSFG with linear complexity.

Abstract

Hyperspectral image (HSI) has been widely adopted in many real-world applications due to its potential to provide detailed information from spectral and spatial data in each pixel. However, precise classification of an object from HSI is challenging due to complex and highly correlated features that exhibit a nonlinear relationship between the acquired spectral unique to the HSI object. In literature, many research works have been conducted to address this problem. However, the problem of processing high-dimensional data and achieving the best resolution factor for any set of regions remains to be evolved with a suitable strategy. Therefore, the proposed study introduces simplified modeling of the hyperspectral image in which precise detection of regions is carried out based on the characterization of pure signatures based on the estimation of the maximum pixel mixing ratio. Moreover, the proposed system emphasizes the pixel unmixing problem, where input data is processed concerning wavelength computation, feature extraction, and hypercube construction. Further, a non-iterative matrix-based operation with a linear square method is performed to classify the region from the input hyperspectral image. The simulation outcome exhibits efficient and precise object classification is achieved by the proposed system in terms classified HSI object and processing time.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the feasibility of converting brushed direct current (BDC) to brushless direct current (BLDC) motor by substituting the wound rotor with a permanent magnet. The aim is to overcome the low quality of rewinding of wound rotors. The conversion was performed by redesigning the motor, referring to the old stator dimensions and motor specifications. Some suitable speed control systems were also examined. Technical analysis was executed by simulating motor characteristics, covering torque-speed curve, cogging, and ripple torques. Afterward, an economic analysis was done to determine the cost of making one rotor unit and the speed control and then compare it with the price of a new BDC motor with equivalent power. The results show that the motor produces 3.6 kW, 18.86 V, 176.71 A, and 28.53 Nm at 2,460 rpm with 2 phases configuration. The maximum cogging torque is 2.9 Nm. The cost of making one rotor unit plus speed control is higher than that of a new BDC motor. These results show that it is technically feasible to convert BDC into a BLDC motor but not economically or vice versa.

Abstract

Fraud in healthcare insurance claims is one of the significant research challenges that affect the growth of the healthcare services. The healthcare frauds are happening through subscribers, companies and the providers. The development of a decision support is to automate the claim data from service provider and to offset the patient’s challenges. In this paper, a novel hybridized big data and statistical machine learning technique, named MapReduce based iterative support vector machine (MR-ISVM) that provide a set of sophisticated steps for the automatic detection of fraudulent claims in the health insurance databases. The experimental results have proven that the MR-ISVM classifier outperforms better in classification and detection than other support vector machine (SVM) kernel classifiers. From the results, a positive impact seen in declining the computational time on processing the healthcare insurance claims without compromising the classification accuracy is achieved. The proposed MR-ISVM classifier achieves 87.73% accuracy than the linear (75.3%) and radial basis function (79.98%).

Abstract

Access ease, mobility, portability, and improved speed have continued to ease the adoption of computing devices; while, consequently proliferating phishing attacks. These, in turn, have created mixed feelings in increased adoption and nosedived users’ trust level of devices. The study recruited 480-students, who were exposed to socially-engineered attack directives. Attacks were designed to retrieve personal data and entice participants to access compromised links. We sought to determine the risks of cybercrimes among the undergraduates in selected Nigerian universities, observe students’ responses and explore their attitudes before/after each attack. Participants were primed to remain vigilant to all forms of scams as we sought to investigate attacks’ influence on gender, students’ status, and age to perceived safety on susceptibility to phishing. Results show that contrary to public beliefs, age, status, and gender were not among the factors associated with scam susceptibility and vulnerability rates of the participants. However, the study reports decreased user trust levels in the adoption of these new, mobile computing devices.

Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to study the correlation between investment in information technologies and especially information systems and information system success based on data collection and a multi-criteria decision-making approach using technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) methods. The criteria of the hierarchical model for evaluating the information system success are chosen from Delone and McLean information systems (IS) success model. The proposed approach has been implemented in 3 sectors recognized by their variation in the use of information systems: the financial sector, the service companies sector, and the construction industry sector. Therefore, the results of this implementation show that massive investment in information systems does not always guarantee good information system success, and information system success is not always the result of massive investment in the information system.
