Abstract

Inferiority was a feeling that is experienced by every people. But these feelings were able to encourage people to achieve the success (superiority). This research was talking about the inferiority experienced by the main character in Andrea Hirata’s novels. These novels were serial novels that are separated from personal story of the author. The novels are entitled Ayah (2015), Sirkus Pohon (2017), and Orang-Orang Biasa (2019). This research aimed to analyze inferiority and superiority of the main characters in novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata. This research used a literary psychology approach by Alfred Adler with a qualitative descriptive research method. The results of this research were first, there are seven forms of inferiority possessed by the main character in the novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata, such as (1) pessimist, (2) hopeless, (3) disappointed, (4) worthless, (5) lost of spirit (heart break), (6) restless, (7) bitterness and gave up. Second, there are six forms of superiority possessed by the main character in the novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata, they were (1) optimistic or confident, (2) high of spirit, (3) proud, (4) success at work, (5) motivate us to have goals, (6) lost of ideas, strategies, and life plans/keep moving. Based on the results of this research, the main character who has a feeling of inferiority manages to achieve superiority, so that it can motivate every reader to never give up in achieving goals in the future

Abstract

Nowadays, technological advances make it easier for us to access many things. Technology, especially the internet, can be easily accessed so that everyone can use it without exception. Social media, which is the outcome of technological advances, certainly has some negative impacts. One of the most common impacts, especially in Indonesia, is the defamation speech act. This study discusses the types of defamation speech acts on social media in the 2017-2019 period. It is qualitative descriptive research employing a theoretical approach namely forensic pragmatics. The data in this study were speeches suspected to contain elements of defamation on social media Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in 2017-2019 and violated the ITE Law Article 27 paragraph (3) which has pragmatic power in the form of speech and the type of impoliteness strategy. The data in this study were collected utilizing screenshots of posts on social media Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in 2017-2019 containing elements of defamation and violating the ITE Law Article 27 paragraph (3). This study applied the observation method. The equivalent method was used to analyze the data. The results of this study show that 43.34% of the defamation speech acts are in the form of assertive illocutionary speech act, 40% of expressive illocutionary speech act, 10% of directive illocutionary act, and 33.33% commissive and declarative illocutionary speech act.

Abstract

The registers of builders in the Javanese speaking community show unique data. It is important to describe the purpose, the characteristics of the formation, and the social context that influence speech to show the complexity of registers that appear in the language community of builders. In order to achieve these objectives, a descriptive qualitative analysis was performed on conversations among builders using a phenomenological approach in a sociolinguistic perspective. Data were taken from conversations between builders, builders with the foreman, and clients with builders. Data were obtained from social media conversations in private groups through passive observer. The data were validated through triangulation method. Based on the results of the interactive analysis, it was found that (1) the purpose of using registers was to make the conversation effective so they were easily accepted and to show the identity of community members, (2) registers of construction community members in Javanese-speaking societies used nominal markers, numerals, adjectives, and verbs, (3) the socio-cultural context built in the conversation between builders was shown from the speaker's needs and speech responses. The speech produced by members of the building community speaking in Javanese society included idealism, norms, rules, and behavior as habits in the community. Sociolinguistics, as a branch of linguistics that studies the interplay between language behavior and social behavior, showed that the builder community used language in socializing to convey and express their field of work and to get acquinted with new members of the community with a special language. Based on the results of data triangulation, it showed that the tendency of Javanese speakers in the construction community did not understand interpersonal relationships and privacy in conversation.

Abstract

The Banyumas dialect of the Javanese language (ngapak) was the Javanese language that is used by most people in Banyumas. The Banyumas dialect of the Javanese language (ngapak) had its uniqueness, namely its cablaka or frank-speaking nature. It was created a stereotype that ngapak speakers were not educated to speak or violate the principle of education. The cablaka character was a form of showing that Banyumas people prefer to express their opinions and thoughts frankly and without chattering or hiding anything. The purpose of this study was to analyze the form of violation of the principle of courtesy in the spoken language of Javanese speakers of the Banyumas dialect (ngapak). This study was located at Desa Samudra, Kecamatan Gumelar, Kabupaten Banyumas. This research was used a theoretical approach namely a pragmatic approach and a methodological approach was a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collected in this study used the listening method, followed by conversational engagement, recording, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using the matching method with the basic technique of sorting the determining elements. The results of this study indicate that there was a violation of the principle of courtesy in the spoken language of the Javanese-speaking community of the Banyumas dialect (ngapak). The violation has found including (1) the maxim of wisdom (tact maxim); (2) maximum of generosity (generosity maxim); (3) maximum of approval (approbation maxim); (4) maximum of modesty (modesty maxim); (5) maximum of agreement (agreement maxim); (6) maximum of sympathy (sympathy maxim).

Abstract

One of the places in Indonesia that still treasures folklore and has become an international tourist destination is the Dieng Plateau. Tourist activities and deforestation for agricultural land pose environmental problems in the Dieng Plateau. Responding to these problems, it is necessary to conduct disaster mitigation efforts through the preservation of folklore. Based on the results of interviews in the Dieng Plateau, there are various folklores, including the Hutan Larangan (The Forbidden Forest). This study probed the types and functions of the Hutan Larangan folklore as a disaster mitigation effort in the Dieng Plateau. This research is descriptive qualitative. The primary data used in this study research consist of the Hutan Larangan folklore. The main data sources of this research are traditional community leaders and general residents of the Dieng Plateau. The data collection techniques conducted are interview and documentation techniques. The sampling technique of this research was carried out through the snowball sampling technique. The validity techniques used are source triangulation and theory triangulation. The data were analyzed through interactive analysis techniques. The results show that Hutan Larangan is a local legend that serves as an educational tool and a coercive tool as well as a supervisor so that the values or norms of the Dieng Plateau community will always be obeyed by the collective members or the community. Disaster mitigation through the Larangan folktale can be carried out through forest preservation using folktale of Hutan Larangan, digitalization of folktale of Hutan Larangan, and the selection of Indonesian Language in form of folktale of Hutan Larangan, especially for Junior High Schools in the Dieng Plateau

Abstract

Language as a communication tool has an important role in human interaction. If the language variations seen in terms of the usage in each environment or group are usually marked with registers. In Semarang Shipping Vocational School there is a shipping register that is not found in other public schools. The purpose of this study is to analyze the form of registers in Vocational High School Shipping Semarang. This qualitative-descriptive research uses accidental sampling data collection techniques or unplanned techniques. The source of the research data is the conversations of the residents of Semarang Shipping Vocational School. The data in this study are fragments of conversations between Vocational Vocational High School residents who allegedly contain a form of shipping register. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis of the interactive model. Presentation of the results of data analysis using informal data presentation. The shipping register data at SMK Pelayaran Semarang is 118 and has been identified in the form of 43 basic words, 9 affixes, 11 acronyms and abbreviations, and 55 phrases. The trend of the shipping register form at the Semarang Shipping Vocational School is in the form of phrases. This research is important for (1) Indonesian language teachers, because the use of language is not limited to what is written in the dictionary, but also using written language in the shipping register language, (2) for cadets, there are other languages that must be mastered, especially in shipping world.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the form and function of figurative language in the poetry anthology Perahu Kertas by Sapardi Djoko Damono, (2) describes the form and function of images used in the poetry anthology Perahu Kertas by Sapardi Djoko Damono, (3) describes the relationship of figurative language to images in the poetry anthology Perahu Kertas by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The analytical method used is descriptive semiotic analysis through heuristic and hermeneutic reading to reveal stylistic aspects and comparative analysis to describe the relationship between forms and functions of figurative language and imagery in the poetry anthology Perahu Kertas by Sapardi Djoko Damono.The results of the study based on data analysis showed (1) figurative language found, among others, was dominated by figure of speech and idioms with a limited number. The function of figure of speech is found, namely as the creation of aesthetic effects and comparison of meaning (2) the imagery data found is dominated by motion imagery with the function of reinforcing meaning to form imagery for the readers (3) there is a relationship between forms of figurative language and imagery in poetry anthology Perahu Kertas by Sapardi Djoko Damono.

Abstract

Technological developments have made online media a preference for delivering news. News that is spread in online media influences people's mindset and life. This has implications for the high potential for people to be trapped in fake news that is massively spread in online media. This study analyses the hoaxes in the 2019 presidential campaign. The results discuss the fake news, namely (1) 7 fake news from 35 findings of fake news with a percentage of 20%, (2) 3 findings of types of fake news (clickbait) with a percentage of 8%, (3) 4 findings of confirmation bias with a percentage of 12%, (4) 6 findings of false news types of misinformation with a percentage of 18%, (5) there are 6 findings of satire types of fake news with a percentage of 18%, (6) 3 findings of post-truth types of fake news, with a percentage of 8%, (7) there are 5 findings of fake news types propaganda with a percentage of 16%. Basically, fake news spread in online media is nothing but leading readers to certain opinions that are full of political interests.

Abstract

The best figure along the history of mankid in life namely Prophet Muhammad PBUH had good diction, gentle language style, firm commands and prohibitions. In addition, he also selected carefully the messengers who had good faith and morals. The purpose of this study is to describe the type, function, and effect of directive utterances in several letters of the Prophet Muhammad to his kings and commander. This research uses a theoretical and methodological approach. The data collection method in this study is a free and involved method and note taking technique. The use of data analysis methods in this study is a heuristic and normative method. Researchers use the method of presenting the analysis an informal result. The results of this study are the function of directive speech includes praying, directing, granting, ordering, requiring, prohibiting, and require. The benefit is to know the grammar of writing from the prophet to regional officials and how to treat his letters.

Abstract

Sikka vernacular language is an isolative language that has various phenomena. One of them is the homonym phenomenon, in which a word has multiple meanings. This research explains the homonym types and the cultural meaning of the homonym in the Sikka vernacular language with the Sikka Krowe dialect. The applied approach was ethnolinguistics to review the language speeches related to cultures. The applied method was qualitative to describe the data in the form of documented data from the source. The applied method was the interview method with the basic technique of recording. The data analysis consisted of a coding method with specific data reduction phases. The results showed that the vernacular language, Sikka, and the dialect, Sikka Krowe had homonym indications in words. They were grouped into homonyms that were homographs and homonyms that were homographs and homophones. Homonyms in Sikka vernacular language and the Sikka Krowe dialect also had meanings, such as Awu, Utan, Daha, and Wua.
