Abstract

Inferiority was a feeling that is experienced by every people. But these feelings were able to encourage people to achieve the success (superiority). This research was talking about the inferiority experienced by the main character in Andrea Hirata’s novels. These novels were serial novels that are separated from personal story of the author. The novels are entitled Ayah (2015), Sirkus Pohon (2017), and Orang-Orang Biasa (2019). This research aimed to analyze inferiority and superiority of the main characters in novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata. This research used a literary psychology approach by Alfred Adler with a qualitative descriptive research method. The results of this research were first, there are seven forms of inferiority possessed by the main character in the novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata, such as (1) pessimist, (2) hopeless, (3) disappointed, (4) worthless, (5) lost of spirit (heart break), (6) restless, (7) bitterness and gave up. Second, there are six forms of superiority possessed by the main character in the novels (Ayah, Sirkus Pohon, and Orang-Orang biasa) by Andrea Hirata, they were (1) optimistic or confident, (2) high of spirit, (3) proud, (4) success at work, (5) motivate us to have goals, (6) lost of ideas, strategies, and life plans/keep moving. Based on the results of this research, the main character who has a feeling of inferiority manages to achieve superiority, so that it can motivate every reader to never give up in achieving goals in the future

Abstract

The use of language in textbooks needs to be studied scientifically. The Adiwiyata’s school textbooks certainly contain a wealth of words or a set of terms that contain information about meanings that describe the environment (ecolexicon). The form of ecolexicons in textbooks in Adiwiyata schools needs to be studied and get our attention as a way of preserving the environment. This study aims to describe and classify the ecolexicon forms in Indonesian language textbooks at Adiwiyata School. The research data is in the form of fragments of text that are suspected of having an ecolexicon. The data are collected using the observation method, literature study, and documentation. Furthermore, the data are analyzed using the match and divide method. The data validity technique used in this study was triangulation with stages: discussion, re-checking, and judgment experts. Based on the results of data analysis, it is found that ecolexicons are in the form of words and phrases with references in biotic and abiotic. The ecolexicon forms are classified based on three components: (1) environmentally based curriculum, (2) participatory-based environmental activities, and (3) management of environmentally friendly supporting facilities. In the phrase ecolexicon, nominal phrases, verbal phrases and adjective phrases are found. The results of this study can be used as an enrichment material for Indonesian language learning which illustrates the richness of language vocabulary to preserve the environment

Abstract

Lukisan Kaligrafi comes as a literary work that is thick in the value of religiosity, transcendent, teaching about religious social life, both vertical and horizontal. The objectives of this study are to describe religiosity in a collection of Lukisan Kaligrafi short stories, to analyze the correlation between religiosity and social reality, and to reveal the author's point of view of religiosity. The researcher used the approach of structuralism and literary sociology in this research. The method used is the hermeneutic method, which is to turn and reconstruct a text in a bound of interactions between the author and the reader. The results of the study (1) the dimension of belief or ideology, (2) the dimension of religious practice or worship, (3) the dimension of religious experience, (4) the dimension of religious knowledge, and (5) the dimension of consequence. There are several attitudes described in describing the correlation of short story religiosity with social reality, among others are: (1) education, (2) peace, (3) Social supervision, (4) worship of solidarity, (5) transformative, (6) creative, (7) sublimative, (8) harmony, (9) emotionally religious, and (10) tolerance.

Abstract

Learning to write short-story text expects the learners to capable of explaining a process of certain phenomenon occurrence. Therefore, an appropriate learning model is needed based on the learners’ cognitive styles. This research explained the effectiveness of short-story text learning with the CIRC model based on the eleventh graders’ cognitive styles. The research design was a one-group pretest-posttest. The sample was taken with purposive sampling. The instruments of data analysis techniques were validity and reliability tests. The samples were examined with normality and homogeneity tests. The final data analysis was a t-test to determine the effectiveness comparison of the cognitive style-based short-story writing learning. The findings showed the average score of FD-styled learners was 82.42, 79.13 for the moderate-styled learners, and 86.48 for FI-styled learners. Theoretically, the findings could be implemented to enrich the educational research and knowledge of writing short-story text.

Abstract

Poetry Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa is a poem written using the Javanese language Tegalan dialect. The Poetry of Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa reflects Indonesian culture, especially the people of Tegal and Brebes. The purpose of this research is to describe the physical and mental structure and to describe the meaning in Atmo Tan Sidik's Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa Poem. This study uses a semiotic structural approach. Data collection in this study used the first level reading techniques, namely heuristics and literature study. The data analysis technique was carried out by means of hermeneutical reading. The results of this study indicate that the Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa Poetry has two structures, namely physical and mental structures. Figurative language is the most dominant physical structure used in Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa's Poetry compared to diction, images, concrete words, versification and typography. The figurative language used in Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa's Poetry is personification and sarcasm. The theme contained in The Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa Poetry is a social theme. The tone used is the tone of satire. The meaning of Dugale Asu Maring Menungsa's Poetry, which describes the anger of a dog towards humans who always blame and call it when they get a social problem

Abstract

This research examines social conflict related to the patriarchal culture in Batak Toba society and describes how patriarchal culture discriminates, weakens, and shackles Batak Toba women as reflected in the short story entitled "Nyawa Sisa" by Sebastian Partogi. The writer conducted library research using contextual methods combined with the sociology of literature to analyze the social issues in this short story. The results show how "Nyawa Sisa" reflects that the patriarchal culture indirectly oppresses and discriminates against women. Men dominate women physically and non-physically, both in the personal and social aspects. Men with special privileges often use their power to commit violence against women and make them the second class.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the proposition in the movie "The Gentlemen" based on Charles J. Fillmore’s case grammar theory. This research is qualitative, descriptive, and literature research. The object of this research is the movie "The Gentlemen" directed by Guy Ritchie. The data collection techniques used are watching techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis through three stages: data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The result of the research is that the proposition in the movie "The Gentlemen" directed by Guy Ritchie based on Charles J. Fillmore's case grammar theory consists of nine types. They are agent (A), experiencer (E), instrument (I), object (O), source (S), goal (G), location (L), time (T), and benefactive (B). Charles J. Fillmore’s case grammar theory in the movie “The Gentlemen” shows that sentences always explain the correlation between verbs and nouns semantically. Thus far, proposition must always exist in a sentence because it is attached to the element of the sentence.

Abstract

Nowadays, technological advances make it easier for us to access many things. Technology, especially the internet, can be easily accessed so that everyone can use it without exception. Social media, which is the outcome of technological advances, certainly has some negative impacts. One of the most common impacts, especially in Indonesia, is the defamation speech act. This study discusses the types of defamation speech acts on social media in the 2017-2019 period. It is qualitative descriptive research employing a theoretical approach namely forensic pragmatics. The data in this study were speeches suspected to contain elements of defamation on social media Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in 2017-2019 and violated the ITE Law Article 27 paragraph (3) which has pragmatic power in the form of speech and the type of impoliteness strategy. The data in this study were collected utilizing screenshots of posts on social media Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in 2017-2019 containing elements of defamation and violating the ITE Law Article 27 paragraph (3). This study applied the observation method. The equivalent method was used to analyze the data. The results of this study show that 43.34% of the defamation speech acts are in the form of assertive illocutionary speech act, 40% of expressive illocutionary speech act, 10% of directive illocutionary act, and 33.33% commissive and declarative illocutionary speech act.

Abstract

Literature work is human mind production by projecting real events. Literature work has many life values for readers. The novel is a part of literary work that tells the daily problems completely that are acted out by the characters. This research aims to review the marriage arrangement hegemony realization in Khilma Anis works and review the hegemonic acceptance realization of marriage arrangement in Khilma Anis works. This research is a literature-sociology approached research. The technique of analyzing the data was done by heuristically reading and hermeneutics interpreting the events, such as the words, sentences, and dialogs in the novel. The results showed that Jadilah Purnamaku, Ning had two characters that hegemonically succeed to matchmake their children. It was persuasive hegemony and destructively done with intellectual and moral leadership. The hegemonic acceptance realization occurred totally and degenerately. Wigati's novel was found to have two hegemonic characters that were successfully hegemonic. The hegemony was found to be moralized and intellectual leaderships. The acceptance realizations of both characters occurred totally. In Hati Suhita's novel, there are two hegemony and hegemonic characters. Both hegemony characters had intellectual leadership and the hegemonic acceptance realizations occurred degenerately. Then, these changed into a total acceptance from other characters. Theoretically, this research could deepen the previous studies and allow new theory findings. Thus, it could contribute to sociology field literature knowledge. Practically, it could improve the literacy of readers and improve the loving feeling of literature work as a life inspiration via the written stories. It could also inspire the accurate hegemony ways so other people will not feel to be insisted but to accept it voluntarily

Abstract

The education is considered as the main point of progress of a nation. The news that is about education is a topic that is always discussed in almost every mass media. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze textual practices of educational news discourse on Kompas.com and Tempo.co media. The approach used in this study includes a methodological approach, namely qualitative descriptive, and a theoretical approach that is called Norman Fairglough's critical discourse analysis. Based on this study, the vocabulary aspect is found that the use of experience values includes the use of ideological and metaphorical vocabulary. The relational values which contain the use of euphemisms and formal-informal words, and expressive values which contains the use of positive and negative evaluation sentences in the text. The importance of this research for the society is to raise critical awareness of all information developing in the digital world
