Abstract

Breast cancer is a non-communicable disease, the development of cancer cells affects a series of organ functions. Treatment for breast cancer is generally divided into three, namely mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Objective: To determine the relationship between frequency of therapy, food intake and nutritional status with the quality of life of cancer patients. Results: Cancer cell activity in the body is characterized by pain, especially in the cancer area. The frequency of therapy >3 months has an effect on decreasing nutritional status, the therapy undertaken has side effects, both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in side effects such as nausea and loss of appetite. Conclusion: Patients who undergo therapy for 3 months tend to be underweight, if the food intake they receive according to their needs will reduce the risk and disruption of a series of body system functions. Regulating the types of food with a regular eating pattern increases the body's physical defenses. Maintaining normal nutritional status while undergoing therapy can maintain physical quality that is related to quality of life. The Relationship Of Therapy Frequency, Food Intake, And Nutritional Status With Quality Of Life In Breast Cancer Patients At The Andalas University Educational Hospital

Abstract

Malnutrition and undernutrition in children are predominantly attributed to insufficient dietary intake and diseases, posing substantial risks without timely intervention. The emerging field of synbiotics, a symbiotic combination of probiotics and prebiotics, presents a promising avenue in nutritional therapy. It effectively modulates the composition and metabolic activities of the intestinal microbiota. This approach aligns seamlessly with the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, offering a cost-effective strategy for both prophylaxis and immunomodulation. This study delves into a narrative literature review, examining the potential application of an extract derived from onion (Allium cepa Linn.) inulin, coupled with the beneficial attributes of the probiotic-rich traditional Sumatran dadih, as a supportive therapy. The emphasis lies in manipulating the intestinal microbiota and modulating the immune system, aiming to alleviate the severity of malnutrition-related complications in children. However, achieving optimal efficacy and safety with synbiotics necessitates further rigorous trials. These trials should specifically target refining dosage regimens and formulating compositions conducive to eliciting the desired, safe responses in clinical settings. In conclusion, the exploration of inulin sourced from onion extracts, integrated with supportive therapy focusing on gut microbiota manipulation and immune modulation alongside probiotic-rich dadih, shows immediate potential for practical application in addressing childhood malnutrition.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to develop a biscuit formulation with the substitution of mackerel fish flour and black rice flour as an alternative snack for diabetes mellitus sufferers.Method: This research was an experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments, namely 0% (F0), 25% (F1), 50% (F2), and 75% (F3). Organoleptic tests were carried out on 7 trained panelists. The organoleptic test data was tested for normality using the Shapiro Wilk test. The results of the data distribution are normally distributed, so to determine whether there are real differences in each treatment, the data is processed using the ANOVA test at the 5% level, if it is known that there are significant differences (p value <0.05), followed by the Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the 5% level to see which treatments are different. Results: The biscuits selected based on organoleptic tests were F1 biscuits with a water content of 3.1%, ash 1.5%, protein 5.2%, fat 3%, magnesium 117 gr, anthocyanin 14.88 mg. Conclusion: Biscuits substituted for mackerel fish flour and black rice flour can be used as an alternative snack for diabetes mellitus sufferers. Keywords: diabetes mellitus, biscuits, mackerel flour, black rice flour

Abstract

Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition which is caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time. One of the programs initiated by the BKKBN to reduce stunting rates is the Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting (DASHAT) program. One of the DASHAT programs is providing local supplementary food to stunted toddlers. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of DASHAT on weight gain and nutritional status of stunted toddlers during the program and after 3 months of completion of the program. This research uses a Quasy Experiment approach. The population in this study were all stunted toddlers who received the DASHAT program, while the sample in this study was 34 toddlers taken by random sampling in three areas of the South Padang District Health Center, Padang City. The results of this research show that the DASHAT program is effective in increasing the weight of toddlers with a p-value of 0.000 during the program and 0.048 after the program, but is not effective in changing nutritional status (TB/U) after the DASHAT program ends. Maximum monitoring is needed from various parties regarding stunting toddlers after the DASHAT program is completed.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis, a prevalent form of arthritis linked to bone degeneration, particularly affects the elderly population. In Indonesia, its prevalence rises with age, impacting various ethnic groups, notably women, and leading to substantial disability in individuals aged 65 and older. Vigilance is essential against potential complications like gastritis, bleeding, or kidney issues resulting from prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The condition's pathophysiology involves joint aging, injuries, excessive use, genetic predisposition, obesity, and hormonal changes. Its clinical signs develop gradually but can accelerate due to injuries or joint strain, significantly reducing patient productivity and life quality. Managing osteoarthritis involves non-drug approaches like education, physical and exercise therapy, followed by medication and supportive devices. The treatment selection depends on severity and the number of affected joints, aiming to control pain, improve joint function, ease physical limitations, and hinder disease progression and complications. Prompt intervention with suitable modalities aligned with the patient's condition offers a favorable prognosis. Factors like muscle weakness, obesity, and depressive disorders can exacerbate osteoarthritis outcomes. Comprehensive management addressing these factors can significantly improve the prognosis and enhance the patient's quality of life.
