JOMSIGN: Journal of Multicultural Studies in Guidance and Counseling is published by Departement of Educational Psychology and Guidance, Faculty of Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia is interdisciplinary forum for educators, counselor, psychologists, and sociologists who study how cultural differences in the educational, development, and social experience, affect the behavior of the individual. The JOMSIGN focuses on issues of cross-culture that is important today, including individualism, self improvement, acculturation, family values change, a comparison of ethnic groups, gender differences, and personality.

One of family functions is to maintain relationship among generations, where the prior generation leaves the influence to the next generation. The family system built then become widespread, not only has two generations but unfold to many generation in building kinship system. The kinship system in Sundanese culture is known as Pancakaki. The individual and social function of pancakaki varies in each period, so that in historical period, society of Sundanese are able to keep values of Sundanese established by their own social system. Pancakaki not only strengthens cultural identity of ancestor heritage, but also as a means for preparing, maintaining and developing a collaboration relation among members based on their values. As an example of the implementation of the pancakaki, Bani Nuryayi kept strongly maintains tradition that was taught by Kyai Nuryayi. This inheritance is sustainable by using patron-client approach. Therefore, pancakaki becomes an effective education pattern for inheritance of cultural values and tradition to the next generation. The implication on Guidance and Counseling that Pancakaki system as an exclusive means of family as coordinate institution for school in order to support optimalitation of personality development and integrity of student identity.

This study aims to describe adolescent morality behavior within culture perspective. The used instrument to identify adolescent morality behavior is morality behavior scale which the aspects are researched such as cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The participant in this research are adolescent in age 15 to 18 at Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 8 Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The researcher applied quantitative research during the research procedure. The analysis data is implemented that utilize SPSS program; the result shows that respondent indicated adolescent morality behavior tendency based on gender. Adolescent morality behavior, based on result of research, categorizedfemale in reaching higher score than male for three aspects are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor which cognitive as the highest one. To conclude this research, is the gender as one of culture construct that explained either female or male adolescent has difference in morality behavior.

This study aims to present spirituality student competency profiles, which can provide a view of cultural competence on the part of students or the spirituality of the people of Indonesia. The method used is survey. Subjects consisted of 50 students on the course for guidance and counseling. Most categories of student spirituality competency is moderate, with highs in the affective aspects, aspects of cognitive and psychomotor lowest at. Therefore, the development of spirituality on student competence becomes important. Especially the development of the cognitive and psychomotor aspects. Competence spirituality is a potential in human beings that can evolve positively. As the results of research and studies mention that spirituality has contributed to mental health, positive moral behavior, professionalism, physical health, as well as character development. Character development is part of a very important educational mission. Moreover, the students as the next generation of nation-building, it is necessary formation of strong character. Belief in God and positive moral behavior is one of the main characters to be achieved in the national education goals. Spirituality can be a major potential in the development of the character.

The aim of this study was to determine the conformity profile peers based on multiculture perspective. Participants in this study weres 76 students senior hig school consist of 32 boys student and 44 girls students. This research approach using quantitative approach, types of research using a cross sectional survey. The instruments used was a scale conformity peers. Data were analyzed using analysisMann-Whitney U with a score of 702,5 and a significance probability value of 0.414. Because the probability of significance 0.987 > 0.05, the results showed that there was no difference conformity peers in the boys student and girls student.

Hope is a construct that has been revealed and investigated in the process across space and time. Hope as an important aspect in the development and lives of individuals known to correlate with various factors, but have not revealed many factors related to culture, especially in Indonesia. This study aims to reveal the expectations on students of Guidance and Counseling Study Programme FKIP UAD Special Region of Yogyakarta Indonesia. The study was conducted on 123 students of VII semester consisting of 45 men and 78 women. The average age of study participants was 20-22 years old. The instrument used is the Hope Scale, shaped semantic differential scale that is composed of a large selection of 1-8 (1 = very inappropriate, and 8 = very appropriate). Descriptive statistical data analysis used in this study. Results of the study showed no significant difference in the expectations of students are female than male. In the dimension measurement known student agency in Guidance and Counseling Study Programme higher than pathways dimension. Hope Sundanese cultural background of students is the highest and the lowest was followed Javanese students who have a background in Malay culture. While the expectations of the most frequently encountered are related to career, parents and self-oriented (individualism).

The meaning of marriage is not just a meeting of two individuals, but also a cultural encounter behind both. To achieve success marital couples should make the process of cultural adjustment. This study aimed to describe the profile of cultural adjustment in the marital from aspects of thoughts, feelings, and actions of the husband or wife to her lover. The method used is descriptive method with quantitative approach. These samples included 50 people. Data were collected using a questionnaire designed based on the ordinal scale. Data analysis using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed cultural adjustment in marriage at all respondents have achieved well adjustment. This conclusion is supported by data that measured three aspects of the figure level adjustment respondents as follows: 61 percent thought aspect, the aspect of feeling 84 percent, and 71 percent of the action aspects.

Cultural empathy is the ability to feel what another person by an individual or a community group. Culture of others became the foundation behave in every interaction that exists. Empathy has the potential to transform differences into mutual understanding and deep understanding. Similarly, in guidance and counseling, a counselor absolutely have skills in counseling, one of which he must have a sense of empathy. Therefore, empathy is very important, both for educators and for counselors, especially for counselors, provide a sense of comfort to the counselee as if a counselor was feeling what counselees feel and recognize themselves in more depth. As for cultural empathy in counseling is very important for the counseling process is a process aid through the interaction between two individuals of different cultural backgrounds. One problem that often arises is the lack of empathy in communication that could lead to a misunderstanding in interaction. Whereas, the purpose of cultural empathy is to gather information and to establish a therapeutic alliance. This study aims to investigate and describe the cultural empathy in students. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods, instrument using a questionnaire and the sample was 83 students of UIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung. The findings of this research is cultural empathy of student UIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung categorized as being with an average by score of 83.84.
