Abstract

This study aims to explore the existing forms of ethnomatematics in the Palue society and to analyze its relation to mathematical concepts in elementary school. In this study, qualitative data were obtained through observation of the community's activity and arterfak used in the activity. The other data were also obtained through interviews with the Palue community. The data are analyzed theoretically using theories relating to the relationship of ethnomatematics with the concepts of mathematics in elementary school. The results show that the ethnomatematic forms that exist in the Palue society culture include forms of artifacts used in traditional ceremonies, dances, livelihoods, tenun ikat activities and traditional games. These social activities have a certain relationship to mathematical concepts in elementary schools, namely the concept of numeral operations, two deminsion concept (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, rhombus, and kite), geometry concept (tubes, shperis, and cones) as well as concepts of the measurement (measurement of the length, mass, and time). Based on this matter, it can be concluded that Palue society in Palue culture contained elements of ethnomatematics that can be integrated in the mathematics learning in elementary school.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the role of self regulation as the environmental influence moderation towards the learning outcome in the Integrated Islamic Primary School of Mayong in Jepara. This research used correlational method with ex post facto design. The data was collected through documentation and questionnaires, while the data analysis applied descriptive analysis and absolute difference value. The results of the research showed that self regulationwas able tosignificantly moderate the environmental influences toward the learning outcome. There are three main environment to be concern in this study. They are family, school, and society environment. The optimum environments moderated were family and school environments. However, the society environment did not show significant influence towards learning outcome because the aspects did not recognize the students’ existence as the society members. This research resultwas supported by the behavioral theory explaining that learning is a behavioral change which occurs through the stimulation (by environment) while response as the learning outcome. The results were also supported by social cognitive theory which emphasizes that the environment faced by individual is not randomly chosen, it is often chosen and changed by the individual usinghis behavior.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the implementation main values of Character Education Reinforcement on the elementary schools located in Semarang. The study was conducted by using qualitative approach-based descriptive method with case study design. The data gathering methods that had been implemented were observation, semi-structured interview, and documentation study. Then, the data analysis was performed by means of interactive analysis model. For ensuring the data validity, technique-based and resource-based triangulation were performed. The results of the study showed that the implementation main values of Character Education Reinforcement in elementary school on the values of religion and nationalism have been very good and had also become the elementary schools’ culture. However, the independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity have been good but have not been maximally and routinely implemented by all of the elementary schools’ community members. Despite the fact that these values have been integrated into the learning activities in the classroom, the school environment, and the role of surrounding community. The obstacles that have been found are the limited school facility, the violation toward the school’s regulation, the parental abandonment, and the influence of surrounding community. The solutions for overcoming these obstacles might be that the schools should establish cooperation with the parents through the provision of additional prayer equipment in the classroom, the school should play the national anthems more often prior to the beginning of the teaching-learning process, the school should give penalty to the students who violate the school regulation, the school should give awards to the students for their role-modelling activities, the school should give direction to the students’ parents, and the school should provide role model, habituation, and monitoring on the students’ daily activities through their parents.
