Abstract

Education is a long term investment of human resources which has strategic values for the continuity of human civilization in the world. The teaching and learning process is a core of the overall learning process. The critical thingking skills is one of the main problems in learning because the domination of teachers who given less access for students to develop independently through their own findings and thingking process. The low learning outcomes also becomes a complex problem to date because the learning process is still center on the teacher; thus, students become passive. Teachers prefer to apply lecture method because it does not need tools and practice materials and only explain the concept continued in the textbook. The students are not being given the method which centered on the students. The study aims at examining (i) the critical thingking skills of students who have extrovert and introvert personalities at SMAN (public senior high schools) in Makassar city, (ii) the Biology learning outcomes of students who have extrovert and introvert personalities at SMAN in Makassar city, (iii) the difference of critical thingking skills between extrovert personality students and introvert personality students at SMAN in Makassar city, and (iv) the difference of biology learning outcomes between extrovert personality students and introvert personality students at SMAN in Makassar city. The study was ex-post facto. Data were collected by employing personality questionnaire, critical thingking skill test, and documentation of learning outcomes scores. The results of the study reveal that (i) the critical thingking skills of extrovert personality students are in well delevop category and the introvert personality students are in well develop category as well, (ii) the Biology learning outcomes of extrovert personality students are in high category and the introvert personality students are in high category as well, (iii) there is a difference of critical thingking skills between extrovert personality students and introvert personality students, and (iv) there is no difference of Biology learning outcomes between extrovert personality students and introvert personality students. Abstract

Blended Learning has both advantages and limitations. Especially in the Biology subject which contains Biology material, it is not only related to the concept of concrete scientific facts, but also the concept of abstract objects. This study aims to determine the response of students and teachers to self-regulated learning through Blended Learning. This research is a survey. The sample in this study were teachers and students of class X SMA Parepare. Data analysis Data analysis of research results was carried out with qualitative descriptive analysis in the form of descriptions based on research findings. The results showed that there were main problems experienced by class X students in learning biology, students had difficulty understanding the material, the emergence of misconceptions, students became less focused in learning. Meanwhile, the teacher's perception is that it is difficult to control student learning, and it is difficult to understand students. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there are many obstacles experienced by students and teachers in learning biology, so that it requires attention and good teaching techniques to improve learning outcomes and the quality of student learning.

Abstract

lotong is a sediment of dirty sap obtained from a sugar factory's sap purification process. The continuous accumulation of waste can cause environmental pollution. Blotong waste has the potential to be used as organic fertilizer using the vermicomposting method (composting with the help of earthworms). Blotong contains nitrogen, P2O5, humic acid, and other nutrients that can be used to fertilize and improve the structure of the soil. This study aims to determine the effect of the type of worm on the speed of decomposition of blotong waste and to determine the quality of vermicompost according to SNI 261-2019 regarding the specification of solid organic fertilizer. This study was structured using a one-factor completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications conducted in series. The series of observations were 2 MSP, 3 MSP, and 4 MSP (Week After Giving). The research factor was the type of worm consisting of Eisenia foetida (C1), Eudrilus eugeniae (C2), and Lumbricus sp. (C3). This research is destructive (not returned for further observations). The results showed that the compost with Eisenia foetida had a better content, namely C-organic (35.84%), pH (7.26), N-total (2.36%), and C/N ratio (15.19). The highest increase in worm mass was found in the type of worm Eisenia foetida, which had an increase of 7.11 g. Based on these results, sugarcane waste fertilizer meets the requirements of SNI No. 261/2019.

Abstract

Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt) is enriched with secondary metabolites and has been traditionally believed to be useful in the treatment of infection and inflammation. The aim of this study was to determine the effective concentration of nutmeg extract in inhibiting skin pathogenic bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The research type was a laboratory experiment to measure antibacterial activity in vitro through Kirby and Bauer's disk diffusion technique. Work procedures included a phytochemical test, extraction, and antibacterial activity tests. The results of the study based on the one-way ANOVA test showed that f-count ˃ f-table which means that nutmeg pulp extract was effective in inhibiting P. aeruginosa and Meticillin Resistance of Staphylococcus aureus as a whole total treatment. The concentration of 80% was the highest concentration, with an average diameter of the inhibition zone against P. aeruginosa of 17.3 mm and 19.6 mm for the inhibition zone of Meticillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The mean value of the diameter of the inhibition zone is categorized as a strong antibacterial substance.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan temuan bahwa dalam praktikum biologi yang dilakukan sering ditemukan peserta didik yang hanya sebatas aktif, namun tidak sistematis dan sesuai prosedur praktikum. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan lembar panduan praktikum. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Research and Development (R&D) model ADDIE, sehingga dalam teknik pengumpulan datanya, peneliti menggunakan kuesioner. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada semester ganjil bulan agustus dengan melibatkan masing-masing tiga ahli: desain, media dan materi, kemudian uji coba skala kecil yang dilakukan pada 9 orang peserta didik. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan angket, kemudian data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian dari validasi ahli menunjukkan bahwa menurut ahli materi persentase kelayakan adalah 98%, ahli media 98%, dan ahli desain adalah 100%. Sedangkan dalam implementasi skala kecil, kelayakan produk yang dinilai peserta didik adalah 94% yaitu “sangat layak.” Berdasarkan temuan yang ada, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengembangan panduan praktikum sangat perlu dilakukan pada pembelajaran Biologi di SMA Kristen Makedonia. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai perbaikan proses pembelajaran Biologi dan dapat digunakan sebagai rujukan bagi penulis lain.

Abstract

The success of students in the aspects of knowledge and skills is indispensable in this century. The quality of the learning environment is one of the factors that affects how well students learn biology. This study aimed to analyze the quality of the learning environment in biology at SMA Negeri 1 Kayan Hilir based on students' perceptions. The research was a descriptive quantitative research method. The instrument in this research was a questionnaire with as many as 56 questions consisting of 7 indicators, namely: student cohesiveness, teacher support, involvement, inquiry/investigation of learning, task orientation, cooperation, and equity/rights of each student (validity >0.8 (high category, V = 1) and reliability = 0.914). The sample in this study was 43 students at SMA Negeri 1 Kayan Hilir. Data collection was done through a questionnaire survey, which was then analyzed using a quantitative descriptive method, which was then converted into a Likert scale. Through this study, the average quality of the learning environment in SMA Negeri 1 Kayan Hilir was 84.69. These results were obtained from the average value of each indicator. This study concludes that students' perceptions state that the quality of the learning environment in biology at SMA Negeri 1 Kayan Hilir is very good (mean = 84.69).

Abstract

The use of plastic is still favored by most people today, which has increased the amount of plastic waste. One of the bacteria that can carry out plastic bioremediation is found in mangrove ecosystems. The existence of the mangrove ecosystem is found on Sine Tulungagung Beach, but there has never been further exploration regarding the presence of plastic-degrading bacteria. This research was conducted to explore the presence of potential plastic-degrading bacteria in the mangrove area of the Sine Tulungagung coast. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method that began with planting plastic samples in mangrove deposits, followed by taking bacterial samples from the mangrove area of Sine Beach, Tulungagung. 21 bacteria were isolated from the exploration and tested for their ability to reduce the weight of the plastic. Bacteria with the ability to decompose plastic were then identified using morphological (color, shape, edges, elevation, and size) and biochemical (gram staining and catalase enzyme) tests. It was found that the highest plastic weight reduction was 6.97%, with the most characteristics in the form of coccus and gram-negative bacteria.

Abstract

The use of learning models that are less precise and do not vary the impact on learning outcomes for low learners. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the PJBL learning model on the learning outcomes of integrated environmental pollution Islamic material. The study was conducted at MAN Tebing Tinggi in July. This type of research is quantitative. This research used a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample of two classes of PMIPA 1 and PMIPA 2 in Man Tebing Tinggi was collected using simple random sampling techniques and subject analysis with 72 students. Test instruments used in the form of test questions conducted at the beginning of learning (pretest) and the end of learning (posttest) include as many as 25 questions. Data analysis of student learning outcomes with the data processing software SPSS 21 using the formulas T-test and N-gain test Based on the hypothesis test obtained, the learning model of PjBL affects the learning outcomes of students' understanding of environmental pollution material in Man Tebing Tinggi with a t-test of 0.230. The N-Gain test results showed that the PjBL learning model was effective in improving the learning outcomes of students in the Islamic integrated environmental pollution material at MAN Tebing Tinggi, with an N-Gain of 0.72 in the high category.

Abstract

Subjects in science, with learning resources in the environment, can be considered in the teaching and learning process. Based on observations at SMPN 13 Bontoa, the use of the environment has not been maximized. The purpose of this study was to compare the learning outcomes of students who were taught about the interactions of living things using the environment as a learning resource to those who were not. Experimental research in the form of a quasi-experimental design was carried out from February to April 2021. Data were obtained from a posttest and observations. Descriptive analysis and inferential analysis techniques were used to process the data. The results of the control class showed 31 students, or 54.83%, in the medium category. The experimental class, totaling 31 people, is 54.84% of the high category. The results of the t-test showed that H0 was rejected, H1 was accepted with count = 30.57, and ttable = 2.00 with dk = 60. This study showed higher student learning outcomes by utilizing the environment as a learning resource. For future research, it is expected to be possible to examine student learning motivation and creativity related to the use of the environment as a learning resource.

Abstract

Learning natural sciences on the topic of the respiratory system requires innovation. Science learning and innovation can be done by integrating the topic of the human respiratory system and the problem of air pollution. This integration is expected to improve higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in students. This research aimed to develop an innovative assessment instrument related to the Higher Order Thinking Skills of Human Respiratory System based on Environmental Pollution Problem in Air (HOTS-Resyenvair) for elementary school students. It was an integration between science learning and environmental education. The ADDIE model was applied as the research and development methodology, but the implementation of the research only goes as far as the development stage. According to the findings of this study, the HOTS-Resyenvair instrument consisted of 12 questions derived from 6 indicators based on HOTS aspects adapted from Anderson's taxonomy. The use of HOTS-Resyenvair as an innovative tool in learning needs to be done to improve students' abilities to solve respiratory system problems based on environmental pollution problems in the air. The validation results from experts and teachers on HOTS-Resyenvair. are in the suitable category to be used in learning. This study concluded that the HOTS-Resyenvair instrument developed is valid and suitable for science learning.
