An autonomous micro hydro power plant was proposed to utilize the small hydro power potency as a run-of-river. It consisted of a PMSG, a DFIG, and a converter and should be operated in the off-grid configuration. In a previous research, the DFIG stator voltages couldn’t be controlled. In this paper, the novel control algorithm that is able to maintain the DFIG stator voltages of the autonomous micro hydro power plant in the off-grid configuration is proposed. The control algorithm was proposed to use the actual DFIG stator voltages and currents as feedback signals. The controller was tested by varying three input signals, i.e. the DC-link voltage, the DFIG stator voltage reference, and the external stator load which simulated the off-grid configuration. The result of the simulation showed that the DFIG stator voltages could be controlled and were always in accordance with the reference.

The electric power converter for downhole telemetry systems of oil-well pumps include a downhole block connected to the pump that contains electronic circuits required for the operation of the motor pump sensors and transmission of data about their condition to the surface are described. A few methods of electric power conversion for this purpose are considered. The circuit contained two steps of voltage converting are proposed. The electrical scheme of this method is considered in the article. Proposed decisions are simulated and verified experimentally. The input high supply voltage range (200-4200 V) without loss of efficiency (even temporary) was obtained. The results of simulation and experimental studies have shown very close results.

This paper represents a hybrid energy system (HES) consisting of photovoltaic (PV), Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC), electrolyzer system and a storage tank. In this proposed system a fuel cell controller is used where a PID controller is utilized to control the flow of hydrogen (H2) through the valve to the SOFC to fulfill the load requirement. In this model a supervisory controller is used to regulate the whole system according to load requirement. So, when PV power is more than load requirement, then PV power fulfill the required load demand as well as the extra power of PV is utilized to generate the hydrogen (H2) by the help of electrolyzer, further this hydrogen is used as a fuel of SOFC. Also in this proposed model different types of faults are considered and verified their effect on the load as well as in distribution network. The computer simulations are done for the purpose technology and verified its effectiveness. Hence the appropriate results are obtained.

The data of solar energy density in one area is very important when the area will constructed photovoltaic (PV) system. The data is as preliminary study to decide what the area is suitable or not to be constructed the PV application system. But, sometime the available data is missing because the limitation of weather equipment. An alternative technique for the available data of solar energy density should be done for the continuity of PV application system decision. An estimation technique of solar energy density is one part of good alternative to solve this problem. This paper presents the estimation of solar energy density using Adaptive Neuron Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The ANFIS system has two input data of the measured daily minimum, maximum temperature and difference between maximum and minimum temperature. The measured solar energy density is as target data of ANFIS system. The data is recorded from Medan meteorological station through the web site of world weather online for the year of 2018. The result shows that the average estimated solar energy density is classified in the very high solar energy density and based on the percentage error shows that the estimated solar energy density is acceptable.

This paper focuses on an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller based Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) for mitigating the harmonics of the distribution system. To increase the performance of the conventional controller and take advantage of smart controllers, a feed forward-type (trained by a back propagation algorithm) ANN-based technique is implemented in shunt active power filters for producing the controlled pulses required for IGBT inverter. The proposed approach mainly work on the principle of capacitor energy to maintain the DC link voltage of a shunt connected filter and thus reduces the transient response time when there is abrupt variation in the load. The entire power system block set model of the proposed scheme has been developed in MATLAB environment. Simulations are carried out by using MATLAB, it is noticed that the %THD is reduced to 2.27% from 29.71% by ANN controlled filter. The simulated experimental results also show that the novel control method is not only easy to be computed and implemented, but also very successful in reducing harmonics.

The system is a 3-level Neutral point clamped hysteresis current controlled Inverter with Wind energy as power source. The input DC Power for the multi-level inverter is drawn from wind turbine generator connected through a rectifier circuit. An inductor has been introduced for smoothening the DC output from the rectifier. The inverter uses Neutral Point Clamped topology. The switching pulses for the inverter are achieved by hysteresis current control technique. This system is advantageous over the conventional SPWM based system as the hysteresis current control allows to reduce the low frequency harmonics while also allowing to control the fundamental amplitude depending on frequency. The outputs for the system are verified using MATLAB simulations. The hardware for Hysteresis current control for the inverter is implemented by using a dSPIC microcontroller. The proposed system can be implemented in households for supplying backup power in case of power shortage and can also be used as a primary power source if wind flow is abundant. It is easy to implement, economical and provides clean energy

This paper presents a new topology for cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter utilizing multicarrier modulation technique. The new five-level topology utilizes a capacitive divider network consisting of two capacitors for producing output voltage levels. The developed circuit has reduced number of switches and dc sources compared to conventional five level inverters. Five main power switches, a single additional diode apart from antiparallel diodes, two capacitors and a dc supply constitute a single five level unit. Simulations as well as experimental results are verified for the new topology utilising multicarrier modulation technique with reduced harmonic distortions in the output.

Voltage-Source Inverter is limited by its only voltage step-down operation. In adding with extra boosting the flexibility is kept active for the number of semiconductors which is unchanged, voltage-type Z-source inverter was earlier proposed. These new classes of inverter is generally less sensitive to electromagnetic noises. However, their boosting capabilities are anyhow less with high component stresses and poorer spectral performances caused by low modulation index ratios. Their boosting gains are, therefore, restricted in practice. To overcome these we use the generalized switched-inductor Z-source inverter is proposed, By comparing with PWM technique and SPWM technique, whose extra boosting abilities and other advantages have been verified in simulation analysis and experiment.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v4i2.5128

Numerous studies had been made to improve the switched reluctance motor operation depend on the modification of the machine design, proposing the converter designs and/or applying a suitable control method. This paper introduces the field orientation control method for that motor using a simple and very efficient DC-DC converter topology. This control method is presented by two techniques; first technique is the advance of the turn-on switching angle and the other technique is the retard/delay of the turn-off switching angle. Instantaneous and average motor characteristics are obtained using Matlab/Simulink software package. Comparison between the simulation results presented using two converter types. A precise speed and torque control are obtained. The average total torque per current is maximized.

Brushless DC (BLDC) motor is more reliable than classic DC motor with higher efficiency. Commonly used conventional linear controller such as PI, PID and PD controller. FLC is considered a replacement to conventional controller due to advantages on non-linear system. Hybrid controller e.g Fuzzy PI controller is developed to cope with drawback of both controller. Simplification of FLC in previous study is the pioneer of the idea of proposed method. Single-Input Fuzzy PI Controller (SIFPIC) is a hybrid controller that combines advantages of linear PI controller and fuzzy controller in one control structure. Since it is a single input based fuzzy controller, it yields simpler design and tuning process. Simulation is done using MATLAB/Simulink and the performance is observed through speed response under several conditions namely constant speed, changing seed and changing load torque. The performance of SIFPIC is compared with conventional PI and fuzzy PI controller. SIFPIC is as expected produced a response similar with the conventional fuzzy PI controller with both fuzzy based controller produce response with better dynamic.
