Abstract

The transmission of electric power has to take place in the most efficient way in addition to providing flexibility in the process. Flexible A.C. Transmission System (FACTS) promotes the use of static controllers to enhance the controllability and increase the power transfer capability. Providing reactive shunt compensation with shunt-connected capacitors and reactors is a well-established technique to get a better voltage profile in a power system. Shunt Capacitors are inexpensive but lack dynamic capabilities, thus some form of dynamically controlled reactive power compensation becomes essential.  In this paper, three phase Distribution Static Var Compensator (D-SVC) has been developed and studied under different conditions. Open loop mode and closed loop mode of operation of D-SVC is simulated and studied. The work presented here is very much useful for distribution system, for effective reactive power management and better Voltage control.

Abstract

The conventional Direct Torque Control (DTC) is known to produce a quick and robust response in AC drives. However, during steady state, stator flux and electromagnetic torque which results in incorrect speed estimations and acoustical noise. A modified Direct Torque Control (DTC) by using Space Vector Modulation (DTC-SVM) for induction machine is proposed in this paper. Using this control strategy, the ripples introduced in torque and flux are reduced. This paper presents a novel approach to design and implementation of a high perfromane torque control (DTC-SVM) of induction machine using Field Programmable gate array (FPGA).The performance of the proposed control scheme is evaluated through digital simulation using Matlab\Simulink and Xilinx System Generator. Abstract

A novel active clamp dual half bridge DC/DC converter with bidirectional power flow is proposed in this paper and comparative analysis between active clamp DHB ZVZCS and ZVS-ZCS bidirectional DC-DC converter topologies is also presented. By adding active clamping circuits to both bridges, zero voltage and zero current switching are achieved to improve the performance of the bidirectional DC/DC converter. The principle of operation is analyzed and simulated. With the proposed active clamp ZVZCS concept, the MATLAB simulation results of the applications of the fuel cell and battery have been obtained and compared with those of ZVS-ZCS bidirectional converter. The simulation results of proposed converter is compared with the ZVS-ZCS bidirectional DC-DC converter, efficiency, switching losses are the key parameters compared.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v2i3.1469

Abstract

Differential evolution (DE) algorithm has been applied as a powerful tool to find optimum switching angles for selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHEPWM) inverters. However, the DE’s performace is very dependent on its control parameters. Conventional DE generally uses either trial and error mechanism or tuning technique to determine appropriate values of the control paramaters. The disadvantage of this process is that it is very time comsuming. In this paper, an adaptive control parameter is proposed in order to speed up the DE algorithm in optimizing SHEPWM switching angles precisely. The proposed adaptive control parameter is proven to enhance the convergence process of the DE algorithm without requiring initial guesses. The results for both negative and positive modulation index (M) also indicate that the proposed adaptive DE is superior to the conventional DE in generating SHEPWM switching patterns

Abstract

In this paper, the problem of controlling AC-DC full bridge converter is considered. The control objectives are two, one is guaranteeing a regulated voltage for the connected load and second one is enforcing power factor correction (PFC) with input current sinusoidal. Power factor correction of Boost converter is done by using fuzzy control technique. The inner loop has a current error amplifier which improves the power factor by properly shaping the input current in accordance with its reference. This reference signal is always synchronized and proportional to the line voltage hence the input current comes in phase with the input voltage. Thus by improving the power factor maximum active power can be delivered to the load. The voltage loop is being controlled by the fuzzy controller and the multiplier. Voltage regulation is done by the fuzzy controller and input distortion is minimized by the fuzzy controller. The desired features of an active PFC technique are close to Unity Power Factor operation, less than 10 % total harmonic distortion in line current and simple control strategy. The fuzzy control technique gives better performance during different line voltage and load. The results are verified through MATLAB/Simulink.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v2i4.522

Abstract

To use different control systems, Like Classical PI Controller, Expert System, Fuzzy Logic Controller and Optimization PSO Controller. It used to control for PMSM which worked in integration system to Wind Energy. Wind Energy content of wind turbine, PMSM, Rectifier, DC bus, Inverter, Filter, Load and Grid. In the first step, to run the PMSM with different speeds to get different frequency to selected the frequency in side of generation with the rated speed. Second step, solve the mathematical equation to use different values of wind speed with selected (15,20 m/s and less than with more than 15&20m/s). Third step, Calculation the power generation with wind speed (15 m/5 & 20 m/s). Fourth step, using these component system Rectifier, DC bus, Inverter, Filter, Load & Grid with WTGS & PMSM. Final step, use different control systems, Like Classical PI Controller, Expert System Fuzzy Logic Controller and Optimization PSO Controller With PMSM to analysis all results after using the simulation model of proposed variable speed based WECS. The wind turbine coupled with PMSM.A closed loop control system with a PI control,Fuzzy, PSO in the speed loop with current controllers .The simulation circuits for PMSM, inverter, speed and current controllers include all realistic components of the drive system. These results also confirmed that the transient torque and current never exceed the maximum permissible value.

Abstract

A continuous web winding system is a large-scale, complex interconnected dynamic system with numerous tension zones to transport the web while processing it. There are two control schemes for large-scale system control: the centralized scheme and the decentralized scheme. Centralized control is the traditional control method, which considers all the information about the system to be a single dynamic model and design a control system for this model. A speed synchronization control strategy for multiple induction motors, based on adjacent cross-coupling control structure, is developed by employing total sliding mode control method. The proposed control strategy is to stabilize speed tracking of each induction motor while synchronizing its speed with the speed of the other motors so as to make speed synchronization error amongst induction motors converge to zero. The global stability and the convergence of the designed controller are proved by using Lyapunov method. Abstract

This paper presents the power quality improvements for a BLDC driver using Vienna rectifier as front end converter. The major drawbacks in the BLDC motor drive and non linear load applications are the line pollution and depreciation of the power factor. The conventional power factor correction method is not economical and efficient. It requires bulky components as load changes and produce high THD and less Power factor. The front end converter of BLDC bridge inverter drive is proposed by the Vienna rectifier, which can contribute more significantly in improving the power factor and reduce the line pollution. The Vienna rectifier topology is controlled by the constant switching frequency control technique for wide range of load variation and it reduces the THD, improve the power factor and provide a steady DC link voltage to the bridge inverter to drive the BLDC motor. The design calculation and performance characteristics of BLDC motor and Vienna rectifier are verified by using Matlab simulation.

Abstract

This paper  presents a performance analysis of three phase induction motor drive system when fed from three-phase inverter with one IGBT open gate. The drive system is based on indirect rotor field oriented. The performance characteristics of the drive are investigated at healthy operating condition and at faulty condition with IGBT of upper phase leg is opened. The Total Harmonic Distortion of phases current in case opened IGBT are derived. Abstract

This paper presents a novel method of optimal Propotional-Intergral (PI) controller’s parameter tuning strategy in-order to improve the Constant Switching Performance of 3-phase DTC shceme. The Direct Torque Control (DTC) sheme is acknowledged to provide fast decoupled control over the torque output and stator flux via a simple control structure. However, DTC sheme has two major downsides, which are the inconsistent inverter switching frequency and high torque output ripple. The main reason that contributes to these tribulations is the usage of hysteresis comparators in order to control the output torque. The realization of PI based controller method as replacement of hyterisis controller in DTC system able to provide significant solutions to over come the fall back while retaining the simple control structure of conventional DTC. The combination usage of higher sampling controller DS1004 and also 3-level CHMI in this system can further minimize the output torque ripple by providing higher resolution with lower digital error and greater number of vectors. This paper presents detail explanation and calculation of optimal PI parameter tuning strategy consecutively to enhance the performance of 3-level DTC system. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed method experimentation, the proposed method is compared with convention DTC system via simulation and experiment results.
