Abstract

The academic success of students can be measured by their aptitude for classroom learning, the role of lecturer as motivator facilitator, and fulfils other responsibilities in the learning process of a specific unit of competency or subject. The teaching presentation of the fashion pattern construction course incorporated many instructional techniques, including lectures, interactive Q&A sessions, practical exercises, and assignments. Such learning should be cultivated to ascertain the cognitive abilities of pupils in comprehending and effectively applying information to attain favourable learning outcomes. One of the techniques that lecturers can utilize to improve student learning outcomes in the Fashion Pattern Construction course is by adopting the Task Learning approach, because this approach incorporates activities for the benefit of students that can raise their interest and interaction in the course, enhance their engagement and participation in the classroom. So, this study aimed at increasing students’ learning outcomes through task learning approach. The employed approach is classroom action research, comprising four distinct stages: planning, activity, observation, and reflection. A total of 34 students, all of whom were D3 fashion design students, were the subjects of this study. The findings demonstrated the efficacy of the Task Learning methodology in enhancing student learning outcomes, as seen by the percentage increase in student learning outcomes observed between cycle 1 and cycle 2.

Abstract

Many students still achieved scores below the minimal completeness criteria when learning basic computer networks. This was because the teacher still uses traditional media, such as printed worksheets in the teaching process which made the learning boring and harder for students to comprehend what the teacher was teaching. Therefore, this research aimed to implement video-based learning within the educational process. This study employed a pre-experiment methodology by using a single pre- and post-test group. Thirty-three students majoring in computer and network engineering served as the research subjects. The paired sample t-test and N-gain score were the data analysis methods employed to examine the efficacy of the video-based instruction. The results demonstrated a significant improvement from students' knowledge before to that of after being engaged in video-based learning. Thus, it is possible to conclude that a video-based instruction can greatly enhance students' understanding on fundamental computer network science. According to the study's findings, the video-based learning ought to be incorporated into the curriculum of vocational education, particularly in the Department of Computer Network Engineering, to ensure that the students fully comprehend the subject matter and that the learning process runs smoothly.

Abstract

In the era of Society 5.0, digitalization has changed the world of education and requires schools to develop creative, critical thinking skills. Vocational schools such as Vocational High Schools (SMK) play an important role in creating students who are ready to face the demands of this era. The use of learning technology, including media such as PowerPoint and modules, has become common but still needs innovation to reach the optimal level. Therefore, the implementation of virtual-based learning media is important. One of the innovations in learning media is the use of flipbooks with Augmented Reality (AR) in vocational schools. The main objective of this research is to measure the level of critical thinking skills of vocational school students. The results showed that the experimental class using Flipbook with AR achieved a significant increase in N-gain value (0.6), indicating the effectiveness of Flipbook with AR in improving students’ understanding. It can be seen from the average results of critical thinking aspects in the experimental class which has a percentage of 85%, while in the control class, it is 55%. Thus, this Flipbook with AR successfully improves students' ability in critical thinking aspects in SMK and shows great potential in the development of interactive learning technology for education.

Abstract

Non-contact heartbeat detection with Doppler sensor is a critical component of remote health monitoring systems, enabling continuous and unobtrusive monitoring of an individual’s cardiovascular health. This paper reported an innovative approach for non-contact heartbeat detection using the Viterbi algorithm, leveraging the distribution of the difference of two adjacent R-R Intervals (RRIs). RRIs represented the time between successive peaks in the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal and are fundamental in analyzing heart rate variability, mental stress conditions and heart diseases. Numerous non-contact Doppler sensor-based methods have been proposed for heartbeat detection, leveraging the evaluation of RRIs without physical device attachment. However, challenges arise from unwanted peaks caused by respiration and slight body movements, even when the subject remains motionless with normal breathing. This study presented an innovative approach for selecting heartbeat peaks utilizing the Viterbi algorithm with the squared difference of two adjacent RRIs as the Branch Metric (BM). The preliminary experiments revealed that the difference between two adjacent RRIs closely follows a Gaussian distribution. Building upon this observation, this paper considered the Viterbi algorithm with Squared Branch Metric (VSBM) to estimate the heartbeat accurately. To assess the accuracy of peak selection method, an experiment was conducted by comparing it with two existing peak detection methods: (i) Doppler output after Low-Pass Filter (LPF)-based method and (ii) Spectrogram-based method. Results demonstrate that the proposed VSBM method is effective to detect the heartbeat accurately for each peak detection method. Furthermore, a comparison of the performance of “Spectrogram + VSBM” outperforms the “Doppler output after LPF + VSBM” method by the Root-Mean-Square Error (RMSE) of RRIs.
