Abstract

The formulation of microcapsule of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetate acid using biopolymer polycaprolactone as a matrix using solvent evaporation method has been carried out. The microcapsule formula was used three types with the ratio 2:1, 1:1, 1:2 between 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetate acid and polycaprolactone. Distribution particle test was used calibrated microscope. Active substance release test was detected by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Polycaprolactone can be used as the matrix polymer for slow release preparations and influence to the release of active substance 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate acid. Result showed that recovery test of the formula-2 containing 86.5 % higher than formula-1, 84.5% and formula-3 78.2%. Model of the kinetics of the release active substance from microcapsule which correlation coefficient close to one is formula-1 which follow zero order kinetics.

Abstract

A study on the preparation of sodium carboxymethil cellulose (Na-CMC) from celulose powder that was isolated from the stems elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) has been performed. Cellulose was purified using 17.5% of sodium hydroxide solution, then bleach, dried and crushed to obtain alpha cellulose. Alfa cellulose was eterified with sodium chloroacetat resulting sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, furthermore characterized: organoleptic, losses on drying, chemical identification, pH test and test with fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The results showed that of 300 g stems elephant grass yield alpha cellulose as much as 92,.54 g and 25 g of alpha cellulose produced  Na-CMC as 16.92 g. Based on the characterization made Na-CMC and Na-CMC Merck®  meet Indonesian Pharmacopoeia 3th edition requirement.

Abstract

A study about production and characterization of dried guava leaf extract with the addition of lactose as drying agents has been performed. Dried extract characterization result are: powder, brown color, characteristic odor and taste like plant and somewhat bitter taste. Dry extract was made by adding lactose in ratio of extracts:lactose 2:1; 1:1, and 2 : 3 and the best extract was in ratio 2:1. Levels of water-solube compound the extract 2:1 was 83.90% ± 1.49%, levels of ethanol. Soluble compounds 13.01% ± 0.11%, total flavonoid content of 1.17% ± 0.01%,  loss on drying 1.52% ± 0.07%, apparent specific gravity 0.60 g/mL and specific gravity of incompressible 0.78 g/mL, total ash content of 1.174% ± 0.006% and acid insoluble ash content of 0.946% ± 0.036%.

Abstract

The isolation of flavonoid substance from Meniran has been performed. Of 100 grams of Meniran’s dried powder, 4.286 grams (4.286%) of thick extract, 1.76 grams of n-hexane fraction, 1.91 grams of CHCl3 fraction, 1.8 grams ofethyl acetate fraction, 2.12 grams of butanol fraction and 24.86 grams of residual fraction has been derived. After preparative chromatography,which is to isolate flavonoid, had been performed, it acquired four blotches which were marked as A,B,C and D. And afterwards it was evaporated which resulted 26.9 mg of flavonoid A, 30.4 mg of flavonoid B, 34.6 mg of flavonoid C and 35.4 mg of flavonoid D. Characterization was focused on flavonoid C as it has the highest antioxidant activities which was recognized from its high inhibition persentage which was attained following a DPPH test. flavonoid C is amorf, yellow coloured, and dissipated at 161.8o – 163.2o C. Based on UV spectrum with slide reactor and infrared spectrum, it was assumed that flavonoid C is an aglicone isoflavone which has an –OH on the 5th position and an o-diOH in ring A (6.7 or 7.8).

Abstract

Reasearch about the effect of feeding guava red meat juice (Psidium guajava L.) on the activity and capacity of peritoneal macrophage phagocytic of white males mice has been done. The test sample is given orally for 7 days with a dose of 0.13 mL/20g BB, 0.26 mL/20g BB and 0.52 mL/20g BB, while the control group was given only distilled water. On the eighth day the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus was injected to mice intraperitonially. Abstract

The solid dispersion system of meloxicam-hydroxypropyl methylcelluloce (HPMC) 6 centipoise (cps) had been studied. The solid dispersion system was prepared by solvation method with several combination of meloxicam and HPMC were 1:1, 1:3 and 1:5. The physical mixture of meloxicam and HPMC with similar composition were used as standard. The powder of solid dispersion system and physical mixture were evaluated by X-ray powder diffraction, thermal (DTA), SEM and FT-IR spectroscopy analysis. The dissolution studies were carried out in USP type II apparatus. The result of X-ray powder diffraction analysis showed that the solid dispersion of  meloxicam with HPMC decreased the drug crystallinity. The endothermic peak of meloxicam from solid dispersion products shifted to lower temperature and peak intensity decreased significantly. X-ray powder diffraction and DTA indicated transformation of crystalline state of meloxicam to amorphous one by solid dispersion with HPMC. SEM results showed the solid dispersion of meloxicam and HPMC has agglomerates form. FT-IR spectra indicated no chemical interaction between meloxicam and HPMC in the solid dispersion. The highest in dissolution rate was observed with solid dispersion products of meloxicam and HPMC with ratio 1:5 (94,083 %) compared to pure meloxicam and its physical mixture.

Abstract

A research on the activity of the central nervous system stimulant of some bottled energy drinks on the market for white mice (Mus musculus, L.) has been done. The samples labelled Minuman Energi (ME) 1, ME 2, ME 3, ME 4 and ME 5 and administered perorally. Each sample has administration volume of 0.4 mL/20g BW. Comparator used is caffeine (6.5 mg/Kg BW). Parameters used for stimulant activity were endurance tested using Rotary road, while  motoric activity and curiosity tested using Automatic Hole Board. From the research that has been done, it is known that ME 1, ME 2, ME 3, ME 4 and ME 5 has a central nervous system stimulant activity by increasing endurance, motoric activity and curiosity in mice significantly.

Abstract

The influence of particle size toward the characteristics of Metronidazole tablets has been studied. Metronidazole that is used for first formua is not crushed, for the second formula is used Metronidazole powder cruhed for 30 minutes, and for the third formula is used Metronidazole powder that is crushed for 3 hours. The crushing process of the powder is done by using Ball mill. The result is analysed by SEM, DTA, FT IR, and particle distribution. DTA data (mettler Toledo) shows the changing of thermodynamic characteristics that occurs when the sample is given heat energy in form of melting shown by endoterm. From the three formula are made Metronidazole tablets by using wet granulation. The formulations of Metronidazole use mucilago gelatin as a binder, lactose as excipients, amylum as desintegrant and aerosil as a lubricant. Tablet evaluation involves the same size, same weight, the strength determining of level and dissolution. Dissolution test is done by using basket method and the level determined by the method of UV Spectrophotometer  at the maximum absorption wavelength of 276.5 nm in HCl 0,1 N. The result of the assay formula 1 is 82,6248%, the formula 2 is 87.3086% and the formula 3 is 95.7037%. Result of dissolution measurement at 60 minutes showed that the average dissolution is 47.902%, 68,584% and 69.320%. The dissolution profile test uses HCl 0,1 N. The analysis of dissolution profile is done by the equality orde 0, orde 1, Higuchi and Korsmeyer peppas. Dissolution profile of Metronidazole tablets approach to Korsmeyer peppas.
