Abstract

This study investigates the classification, governance, and institutional dynamics of Sharia securities within Indonesia’s Islamic capital market. Using a qualitative methodology grounded in document and thematic analysis, it explores how regulatory bodies—including the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the National Sharia Council (DSN-MUI), and the Indonesia Stock Exchange—coordinate to ensure Sharia compliance. Findings reveal that while regulatory instruments such as the Sharia Securities List (DES) and Jakarta Islamic Index have improved transparency and compliance, overlapping jurisdictions and limited enforcement mechanisms present notable challenges. Additionally, gaps in investor literacy and underdeveloped Sharia auditing hinder wider market participation. However, the market holds significant growth potential due to strong demographic demand, supportive government policy, and technological opportunities in fintech. The study offers theoretical and practical insights into strengthening institutional trust, regulatory harmonization, and ethical investing within Indonesia’s Islamic finance framework.

Abstract

This article examines the conceptual and ethical dimensions of empowerment based on a Hadith that elevates honest labor over dependency. The selected Hadith encourages individuals to earn a living—even by collecting and selling firewood—rather than relying on others, highlighting a profound principle of ikhtiy?r (self-reliance) within Islamic ethics. The study aims to construct a theoretical framework of empowerment rooted in Prophetic teachings, emphasizing moral integrity, spiritual accountability, and economic self-sufficiency. Using a conceptual and document-based methodology, this research analyzes classical Islamic texts alongside modern scholarly literature to extract themes such as kar?mah (dignity), tamk?n (empowerment), and ‘ib?dah (labor as worship). The findings reveal that the Hadith advocates for a holistic form of empowerment that integrates individual agency with communal responsibility. It critiques both materialist and paternalist models, offering a value-based alternative that remains relevant in contemporary socio-economic discourse. This study contributes to Islamic economic thought by demonstrating how Hadith can inform ethical development strategies and foster morally grounded, resilient communities.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of kasb (earning or acquisition) in the ethical and metaphysical framework of Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī, one of the most influential scholars in Islamic intellectual history. Amid growing global calls for ethically grounded economic systems, Al-Ghazālī’s treatment of kasb in works such as Iḥyāʾ ʿUlūm al-Dīn, al-Iqtiṣād fī alIʿtiqād, and al-Munqidh min al-Ḍalāl offers a profound synthesis of spiritual intention, legal adherence, and socio-economic responsibility. This study uses a conceptual and qualitative methodology based on textual analysis of classical sources, supported by recent scholarly discourse on Islamic economics. The findings demonstrate that kasb is not merely a mechanism of material sustenance but a form of spiritual discipline, ethical striving, and communal contribution. Al-Ghazālī’s framework reconciles divine will and human agency, positioning lawful labor as an act of worship when performed with proper intention. Furthermore, this ethical paradigm provides a comprehensive model for reforming contemporary Islamic economic structures, emphasizing integrity, justice, and spiritual purpose. The research contributes to the revival of Islamic economic philosophy by integrating metaphysical insight with actionable ethics, offering an alternative to purely formalistic or profit-driven systems in the modern world.

Abstract

The rapid growth of halal startups in Indonesia reflects increasing consumer demand for ethical, shar??ah-compliant goods and services. Despite this momentum, many startups face sustainability challenges stemming from limited access to Islamic finance, underdeveloped policy ecosystems, and a lack of integration with Islamic ethical frameworks. This study applies a conceptual decision tree methodology to identify the most critical factors influencing halal startup sustainability in Indonesia. Using qualitative data, the analysis incorporates variables aligned with maq??id al-shar??ah, such as founder religiosity, access to shar??ah-compliant capital, and ethical governance structures. Findings reveal that startups exhibiting alignment with Islamic values—particularly in funding, innovation, and management—demonstrate higher long-term viability. The decision tree model enables a systematic visualization of these relationships, providing theoretical and practical insights for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and Islamic economists. This approach contributes to Islamic economics by demonstrating how normative frameworks can be transformed into predictive models that support ethical entrepreneurship across Muslim markets.

Abstract

Mushārakah Mutanāqiṣah (MMQ) is one of the innovative financing schemes implemented by Sharia banking institutions, allowing joint asset ownership between banks and customers with gradual transfer of ownership. A frequent issue in MMQ transactions is the customer’s failure to fulfill payment obligations. In response, Sharia banks refer to Fatwa DSN-MUI No. 43/DSN-MUI/VIII/2004 on compensation (ta‘wīḍ) and Fatwa No. 17/DSN-MUI/IX/2000 on disciplinary sanctions (ta‘zīr). This study explores the legitimacy and application of these fatwas in the context of MMQ contracts, using a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature and documentation analysis. The findings indicate that imposition of sanctions must be aligned with the nature of the breached contract within MMQ—whether it is mushārakah, bai‘, or ijārah—to avoid unjust enforcement. The study concludes that while the fatwas provide legal grounds, a contextual contract-based analysis is crucial in applying punitive measures fairly.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of attitudes on the intention to choose Islamic banks, the effect of subjective norms on the intention to choose Islamic banks, the effect of behavioral control on the intention to choose Islamic banks, and the moderating role of religiosity in the relationship between attitudes, subjective norms, behavioral control, and the intention to choose Islamic banks. The method used was a survey with purposive sampling of 100 respondents. The data analysis tool used was multiple regression analysis with SPSS 16.0 software. The results of this study conclude that attitudes do not influence the intention to choose Bank BRISyariah. Subjective norms have a positive effect on the intention to choose Bank BRISyariah. Behavioral control does not influence the intention to choose Bank BRISyariah. The relationship between attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control with the intention to choose Bank BRISyariah is not moderated by religiosity. Based on these conclusions, Bank BRISyariah is advised to improve understanding related to subjective norms to increase the number of customers using Islamic banking services. Further research is recommended to develop this study by exploring both independent and dependent variables before and after behavioral intention or specific action intentions.

Abstract

This study explores the comparative implementation of cash and Murabahah financing methods in home purchases at Green Mutiara Housing, PT Graha Perwira Pratama, Banyumas Regency. Access to housing remains a challenge for low- to middle-income communities, prompting the need to evaluate payment alternatives that align with consumer needs and Islamic financial principles. A field research approach was adopted using qualitative descriptive-comparative methods. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation at the housing location. The focus was on the application procedures for both cash and credit purchase systems, particularly the Murabahah financing method used through Islamic banks. The findings show that cash purchases—both hard and installment-based—offer lower prices, quicker processing, and fewer administrative requirements. Credit purchases via Murabahah involve banks paying developers upfront, followed by consumer repayments under agreed profit margins. Buyers benefit from accessible financing without needing full payment upfront, although total costs are generally higher due to margin and longer payment periods. While both payment systems are functional and widely accepted, each has distinct financial and administrative implications. Cash payment offers simplicity and immediate ownership, while credit financing provides broader accessibility. The choice ultimately depends on buyer capacity and preference, with Murabahah offering an Islamic-compliant financing alternative.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of Islamic banking has led to the development of various financial instruments that extend beyond traditional fund mobilization. Among these is wakālah bi al-ujrah, a fee-based agency contract whereby a bank is appointed to perform specific services on behalf of a client for a predetermined fee. A prominent application is in the issuance and administration of Letters of Credit (L/C), which enable sharia-compliant international trade. This study investigates the theoretical underpinnings, legal foundation, and practical application of wak?lah bi al-ujrah within L/C services in Islamic banking. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive method, the research draws on classical Islamic legal texts, national fatwas, and actual banking practices to evaluate the legitimacy and operational framework of the contract. The findings indicate that wak?lah bi al-ujrah is consistent with classical jurisprudence and fulfills the regulatory and ethical standards necessary for modern Islamic financial services.

Abstract

This article discusses the potential of zakat as a source of state revenue and proposals for its management. Three problems come together in 2021, namely the problem of state and BUMN finances due to poor management of the State Budget and BUMN finances. The state budget deficit has widened so that it is impossible for the government to cover it with new debt. In the view of sharia, zakat is a major component in state finances, the Prophet Muhammad had appointed Muadz bin Jabal to be the emir and collector of zakat in Yemen. Abu Bakr also continued the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad. After the death of the Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr fought those who did not want to give zakat. The study was conducted with a qualitative analysis of data sources obtained from secondary data, namely, data from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). The technique of collecting data is by quoting data published by each institution on the website. The crucial problem is the low awareness of the Muslim community of paying zakat, because the existing regulations categorize zakat as voluntary acceptance, there are no rules that have legal consequences for Muslim communities who do not pay zakat. The conclusion of this research is that the low income of zakat compared to its potential requires serious attention from the government by issuing new regulations, so that zakat will make a major contribution to state revenue as well as taxes.

Abstract

Poverty is a problem that is often faced by many developing countries, including Indonesia. In the Islamic economic system, zakat is one of the socio-economic instruments that is relevant to alleviating poverty so that it can boost national economic performance. In order for zakat to be effective, proper utilization programs are needed so that zakat funds allocated can increase the independence of realizing welfare and bringing mustahik out of poverty. The Center for Zakat Umat (PZU) is an Islamic Union (Persis) Amil Zakat Institution which is dedicated to improving the welfare of the people in the fields of education, health, preaching, social and also economic. In determining the zakat utilization program, PZU has its own program planning model where asnaf in zakat fiqh is interpreted into productive programs that adhere to the rules of the Shari'a. This planning model has given birth to various programs that have been implemented in the PZU working area nationally, one of which is the village program rise. This research uses a case study which is part of a qualitative method that will explore a particular program in more depth by involving the collection of various sources of information.
