Abstract

According to World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that one woman dies in every minute, 1,400 in every day, or 500,000 in every year from pregnancy- and delivery-related complications. A large number of delivery-related complications reported in SDKI in 2017 are long delivery (41%). Both long delivery and pain that distress the mother during a delivery process is the reason for delivery trauma and increases in delivery by sectio caesarea operation. Due to a phenomenon of increasing trends in caesarea operation and other unnecessary medical interventions, there reemerges an awareness to back to a natural delivery concept that considers the whole aspects of human body holistically (called gentle birth).”Gentle birth” is a serene, smooth, gentle delivery and utilizes all natural elements in human (body, mind, and soul). Currently, some alternative methods of delivery process with a gentle birth concept are developing, such as prental yoga and hypnobirthing relaxation. The objective of the present research is to analyze the effect of gentle birth method on the pain level and phase-I duration of delivery in primipara mother. The research is a quasi-experimental research with a post test control group design. Sampling was performed by a consecutive sampling up to the number of sample the researcher wanted has been met according to an inclusion criterion. The research result revealed that there was some significant average difference in the pain level and phase-I duration of delivery between the experimental and control groups. Expectantly, the research result contributes to midwifery science as an attempt to deliver a holistic delivery midwifery care (gentle birth) so as to relieve delivery-related pain and to shorten delivery duration. KEYWORDS: Gentle birth, prental yoga, hypnobirthing, delivery pain, delivery duration

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia has not reached the expected rate, which is around 80%. Exclusive breastfeeding is very important for the baby's growth and development. Babies who are exclusively breastfed and with good nutritional status have normal gross motor development. Breastfeeding exclusively supports infant growth, improves brain cell development, language development, and motor development of babies because breast milk contains various nutrients that can promote growth and brain development. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of exclusive breastfeeding on the gross motor development of infants in Syamtalira Aron, Aceh Utara. This study used a comparative design with a cross sectional approach. The number of research respondents was 92 respondents, with a total sampling technique. Exclusive breastfeeding data and gross motor development were collected using a questionnaire. In this study, it is known that the frequency distribution of exclusive breastfeeding is 37 people (37.5%), and 55 people (62.5%) are not exclusively breastfed. Data analysis used the Mann Whitney U. The results of the bivariable study showed that the exclusive breastfeeding group had a minimum value of 7 and a maximum value of 10. While the non-ASI group had a median value of 7 with a minimum value of 6 and a maximum of 10, the average ranking of the Exclusive breastfeeding group was 66.50 higher than the non-ASI group with a value of 33.05 and a p-value of 0.000. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that exclusive breastfeeding is better than non-exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months for infant development. Thus, parents are expected to pay more attention to their children in exclusive breastfeeding for 0-6 months of the baby's gross motor development.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak threatens not only physical health, but also the psychological health of society. Psychological effects have mild to severe impacts. Adolescents are still classified as unstable age, thus they are easily shaken psychologically, experiencing excess anxiety and fear of contracting the virus. Anxiety in adolescents is a natural reaction in this COVID-19 pandemic situation. However, if this situation lasts for a long time, it may cause psychological problems. This study used a descriptive quantitative design with a survey method. Population sampling used non-probability sampling technique, i.e. purposive sampling, in order to obtain a sample of 95 female teenager respondents. This study aims to investigate the anxiety and compliant levels of the female teenager related to new habits during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that the majority of respondents were adolescents with a mild (80%), followed by moderate (8.4%), and severe (10.5%) level of anxiety. Based on these data, it means that teenagers currently have a fairly good level of stress management, although there are still some teenagers who experience severe level of anxiety. The possible cause of this condition was the abundance of information about the corona virus, which had a negative impact. Indeed, we have to update our information as an effort to remain vigilant. However, continuous exposure will have an impact on mental health, in which resulted in stress, anxiety, panic, and fear. Compliant of the female teenagers to new habits during the New Normal period was achieved by washed our hands (61.1%), always using masks (86.3%), always applying social distancing (50.5%), and staying at home (55.8%). The role of adolescents in new habits is urgently needed to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

Abstract

Women who are currently pregnant experience many changes. Changes in body and mind can cause discomfort to pregnant women. In addition to physical discomfort, psychological discomfort is also common. Anxiety and depression in pregnancy are problems with a high prevalence. One of the interventions that can reduce anxiety can be physical exercise such as yoga. Yoga can reduce stress, improve quality of life, self-efficacy in childbirth, interpersonal relationships, autonomic nervous system function, provide comfort, reduce or decrease labor pain and shorten the duration of labor. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of pregnancy yoga on anxiety and the duration of the first stage of labor in the city of Pekanbaru. This type of research is an observational study with a case control design. This research was conducted in 5 maternity homes in Pekanbaru City with a total sample of 96 respondents. The Zung-Self Rating Scale (ZSRS) questionnaire data collection tool and the first stage of labor using a questionnaire. Bivariate data analysis using chi-square calculations. The results of the Chi-square statistical test for anxiety variables showed a p value of 0.000 <0.05 (95% CI), there was a relationship between anxiety status and pregnancy yoga exercises. The variable of the first stage of labor showed a p value of 0.013 <0.05 (95% CI), there was a relationship between the first stage of labor and pregnancy yoga exercises. The effect of yoga exercises can reduce anxiety levels and shorten the first stage of the active phase of labor. It is hoped that health workers, especially midwives, can increase the frequency of providing information about pregnancy yoga and the frequency of implementing yoga exercise classes, both at RB and other health facilities.
