Abstract

This study examines the problem of assertive illocutionary speech acts in the film Sejuta Sayang Untukya by Herwin Novianto. This study aims to describe assertive illocutionary utterances in the film Sejuta Sayang Untuknya by Herwin Novianto. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique in this study utilized the observing method, with the research technique namely basic tapping techniques and advanced techniques which are divided into competent engaged observing techniques (SLC), proficient free engaging observing techniques (SLBC), and note taking techniques. The data research instrument is the researcher himself who acts as an observer. The data analysis technique was carried out by watching the film Sejuta Sayang Untuknya by Herwin Novianto repeatedly in order to understand the meaning of the speech in the film. Then transcribe the data that has been obtained, followed by describing the data. Furthermore, researchers concluded the data that has been analyzed. The results of data analysis are presented in the form of a brief description. This research shows that there are 22 assertive illocutionary speech acts in the film Sejuta Sayang u by Herwin Novianto. These assertive speech acts include: 1) there are 8 assertive utterances of telling, 2) there are 2 assertive utterances stating, 3) there are 8 assertive utterances refusing, 4) there are 3 utterances expressing opinions, and 4) there is 1 assertive utterance reporting.

Abstract

Psychological science that discusses the human needs in his life has become sub-interdisciplinary in literary studies, which is contained in the discussion of humanistic psychology. Maslow, a well-known figure in the study, published his third book Mahzab. In the study, human needs are divided into five and one of them needs love and have. In this discussion the need for love and having a much needed on victims of sexual violence. His struggle to get all the love lost is not easy. The main character goes through a lot of time and self-problems in order to get a normal life and all his loved ones back. This stage of the main character after becoming a victim in order to get his love back is by (1)Being alone wherever he is (2)Always blame himself (3)Go to the psychiatrist (4)Start ventured to believe in people (5)Finding all the love that was lost (6)Realizing mistakes and starting a new life. Abstract

Abstract This study aims to explain: (1) the intrinsic elements of the novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi, (2) the relationship between setting, plot, and characterizations tied to the theme in the novel Dear Allah, and (3) the form of the relationship between signs and references in the form of indexes, symbols, as well as icons in the novel Dear Allah. This research uses the content method with a qualitative description approach. The validity of the data is obtained through observation, perseverance and thoroughness of the reader in reading and understanding the contents of the novel, as well as the triangulation method. The results of the study explain that the novel Dear Allah has a forward plot with three stages, namely the first stage is an introduction, then the middle stage is the emergence of a conflict or problem, and the last stage is a resolution. The novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi ends with happiness for the main characters, namely Naira and Wildan. They both can finally live together happily and they are grateful to have been blessed with a child. The story of this novel is set in a mosque, room, Wildan's house, hospital, living room, operating room, and hall of the nursing center. All intrinsic elements are interrelated and tied to the theme. The form of the relationship between signs and references can be found in the novel Dear Allah in the form of icons, which consist of diagrammatic icons, topological icons, and metaphorical icons. Abstract

This study aims to dismantle the construction of women as agents of social change and defense of Indonesian independence in the novel Burung-Burung Manyar. This research uses qualitative type research which prioritizes data quality compared to the large amount of data. The material object of this research is Y.B. Mangunwijaya. The formal object of this research is the narrative structure in the novel Burung-Burung Manyar, the image of women in the novel, the novel's quotations, and the theory of feminism. The research data is a novel narrative system that shows research reinforcement quotes, the image of women in the novel, feminist theory and various information that is appropriate to the research topic. Data collection techniques are carried out by reading and recording the information needed in the research. The data interpretation technique was carried out by reading a series of narrative systems in the novel Burung-Burung Manyar in order to find the quotations needed to dismantle the construction of women as agents of social change and defense of Indonesian independence and then linked or analyzed using feminist theory. The results of this study are that in terms of creating and maintaining the nation, women have a sizeable contribution or contribution. This contribution is not only in the form of physical contributions but also non-physical ones. In addition, the contributions made by women are in the form of material and non-material contributions. Second, there are two factors behind women's contribution in fighting for and defending independence, namely: (1) the spirit of nationalism, (2) love of the motherland.Keywords: Women, Defense of Independence, Feminism

Abstract

  The problems found in the study were the lack of motivation and knowledge of students in learning to write explanatory texts, students having difficulty in expressing or developing ideas on the use of linguistic structures and rules, and students being bored and bored in learning because teachers rarely use learning models that involve students directly. active in learning to write explanatory text. This study aims to determine the effect of using the Children Learning In Science (CLIS) learning model on the ability to write explanatory texts in class VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan in the academic year 2022/2023. The method used in this study is the experimental method of the two group post-test design. From the data processing, the results obtained from the experimental group with an average value = 83, 75 ; standard deviation = 7,03 ; standard error = 1,20 ; and classified as very good category. While the results of the control group with an average value = 62,67 ; standard deviation = 10,29 ; standard error = 1,76 ; and classified as sufficient category. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the results of the data were normally distributed. Furthermore, the results of the homogeneity test analysis obtained that the sample came from a homogeneous variant. In testing the t-test hypothesis, the value of tcount is 9,94; and ttable with a significance level of ? = 0,05 with dk n-1=35-1=34 obtained ttable which is 1,691. This proves that the value of tcount (9,94) ttable (1,691), so that Ho is rejected, by rejecting Ho then Ha is accepted. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between the use of the Children Learning In Science (CLIS) learning model on the ability to write explanatory texts in class VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan in the academic year 2022/2023. Abstract

This research aims to examine the construction of Tempo.co news reporting in one of its articles discusses the gratification committed by Rafael Alun Trisambodo, which can influence public perception or opinion. The method used to analyze the construction of Tempo.co's news reporting is Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, which includes three stages: description (microstructural), interpretation (mesostructural), and explanation (macrostructural). The analysis conducted using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis found that Tempo.co in the description stage (microstructural). co's article utilized language tools to convey information about the individuals and events involved, particularly emphasizing actions, cause and effect, and the credibility of the cited sources. In the interpretation stage (mesostructural), it was observed that, Tempo. co aims to share a mission with its parent company: to cultivate an environment where people feel safe to share their ideas and opinions to create a society. In the final stage, explanation (macrostructural), three levels were identified: situational, institutional, and social. At the situational level, Tempo.co indicates that corruption cases involving public officials in Indonesia are still a significant concern and can occur among any public officials. At the institutional level, Tempo.co coordinates with credible sources of information. Finally, at the social level, Tempo.co highlights that corruption harms many people, thus establishing a direct connection between Tempo.co and the media's role in society. Abstract

This article aimed to investigate the sign system in Indonesian horror film posters throughout the years 2022-2023. Over the past two years, an intriguing trend emerged in relation to horror films in Indonesia, wherein iconicity involving women became the representamen of the sign system within a film poster. The research methodology used was qualitative description, with Indonesian horror films from the years 2022-2023 serving as the data source. To comprehend the meanings encapsulated within the latest Indonesian horror film posters, Charles Sanders Peirce's paradigm on signs was adopted as a reference to understand the research material – the Indonesian horror film posters from 2022-2023. The research results showed that the representation of meaning in the Indonesian horror film posters from 2022-2023, which were employed as icons within their posters, centered around women. In terms of color selection for the letters in the posters, the use of red was notable, symbolizing the color of blood. Keywords: poster, women, Indonesian horror films, Peirce

Abstract

Discourse analysis is a method used to uncover the meaning and communication messages present in a text, both in its textual and contextual aspects. This means that the meaning of a text or communication message cannot solely be derived from the explicit written text. Sara Mills' discourse model focuses on discourses about feminism, emphasizing the positions of subjects and objects within the text. Feminist discourse highlights how a text represents women. In reality, women are often portrayed as inferior and in the wrong compared to men in texts. The approach used in this analysis is Sara Mills' discourse approach. The author examines a discourse for analysis titled "Sad Case: 9 Children Raped, Main Perpetrator Still Underage" from Detik.com. The results of the discussion indicate that the author portrays women as objects depicted in news stories. However, on detik.com news, women are also positioned as subjects with the opportunity to narrate events they have experienced from the beginning to the aftermath of rape. In feminist discourse, women are often depicted not as subjects but as objects in many news texts. In this case, women are objectified, and their positions are often defined as mere storytelling materials, victims of abuse, or rape victims, unable to represent themselves. Through the analysis conducted on detik.com media, women are portrayed as victims of rape. The news presented on detik.com depicts women more as a vulnerable group, while men are shown to hold power, rendering the victims powerless. Consequently, when represented in news texts, women are placed in a marginalized position. Keywords: Discourse analysis, Sara Mills approach, feminist discourse.

Abstract

Oral literature is part of the ancestral heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. Every region of Indonesia has oral literature with its own uniqueness which cannot be separated from the levels within it. This research reveals the structural level of East Javanese oral literature entitled Babat Alas Gayam using the theory of C. Levi Strauss. Data was obtained through interviews with sources. The data source in this study is the oral literary story Babat Alas Gayam. This study also uses listening and note-taking techniques. The data collection steps carried out by researchers are as follows. First, conduct interviews with sources. Second, transcribe the data. Third, find data. Fourth, summarize the data. Next, the following is the data analysis procedure carried out by the researcher. First, identify the data. Second, classify the data. Third, describe the data. Lastly, make a conclusion. This study produces information regarding the geographical, techno-economic, cosmological and sociological levels contained in the oral literature of Babat Alas Gayam.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of paper puppet media on the skills of retelling the contents of fable stories of class VII students at SMP Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi for the 2023/2024 academic year.  The design of this research is a one group pretest-posttest experimental research design.  The research subjects were students in class VII-3 of SMP Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi for the 2023/2024 academic year.  The data collection method uses an oral test.  The data for this research are test scores on the skill of retelling the contents of a fable story without and using paper puppets.  The results of this research are that the average score for the skill of retelling the content of a fable story using paper puppet media is in the good category, namely 72.96, while the average score for the skill of retelling the content of a fable story before using paper puppet media is in the fair category, namely 59.25.  Based on the results of hypothesis test calculations, the tcount is 2.58.  Next, it is compared with ttable with a significance level of ? = 0.05 with dk n-1= 27-1=26, obtained ttable which is 1.706.  So it can be concluded that tcount > ttable, namely 2.58>1.706.  This means that Ho is rejected, if Ho is rejected then Ha is accepted. This shows that there is a significant influence of the use of paper puppet media on the skills of retelling the content of fable stories of class VII students at SMP Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi for the 2023/2024 academic.
