Abstract

The objective of this study is to describe the representation of motherly love (love a mother as the main character (Devki) to her stepdaughter (Arya) in the film Mom (2017). The author uses descriptive research which is described through the storyline in terms of dialogue and action. The analysis shows that Mother's love is represented in the form of a mother's struggle for her stepdaughter who gets sexual violence and injustice in the law. Devki, a mother wants to avenge all the criminals who have been involved in the abuse of Arya. Arya is not Devki's biological child, but she loves her very much. Devki the mother is willing to play “dirty” and hires a private detective to complete his noble mission, but Devki is not aware of another danger that threatens him. She did various ways to avenge the suffering her daughter experienced from the perpetrators. As a child, we must have often heard stories about her life suffered because of the torture of her stepmother. In this film, we see a woman as a mother with sincere affection. This film proves that not all stepchildren will end up suffering. Devki proves that she is Arya's stepmother, but her love for her daughter is not about blood relations. Although Devki did do wrong, we may have to admit it. A mother's instinct does not know the meaning of her child, adopted child, or stepchild. A person who plays the title of mother sometimes acts out of sanity for the sake of a child, but she proves that a mother will go through all her limitations to give justice and happiness to her child. Devki is willing to risk his life to give a new life to Arya. She tries to return Arya's life and smiles. Devki is an image of the strength of a mother who is full of love from a stepmother towards her stepdaughter.

Abstract

This study aims to deliver a detailed account of the prevailing literature while offering significant observations by accentuating the primary aspects of the flipped classroom and its benefits, factoring in the hurdles related to this teaching technique. The modern world is transforming into an environment where a wide range of technologies emerges, undergoes testing, and subsequently spreads swiftly. This significant transformation is evident in various fields, especially in education. This shift calls attention to the essential task of rethinking and rigorously scrutinizing the prevailing educational paradigm, the positions of instructors and students, and the teaching resources in practice. Additionally, the transition from traditional methods to innovative strategies is inevitable. The flipped classroom blends engaging learning experiences through collaborative and individual tasks in class, while lower-level tasks and self-study occur outside using digital resources. The researchers perform a theoretical review to thoroughly explore the incorporation of the flipped classroom model into our educational practices. The flipped classroom framework presents a promising strategy for boosting student learning and engagement. By thoughtfully addressing the related challenges and capitalizing on the potential advantages, educators can cultivate a more vibrant and effective learning atmosphere. Additional studies are required to evaluate the enduring consequences of the flipped classroom approach and to ascertain effective methods for its application.

Abstract

This study examines English teachers' conceptions of grammar teaching methods in secondary schools across West Shoa Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. Teachers’ beliefs about grammar instruction significantly influence their lesson planning and instructional strategies. A total of 120 English language teachers from 18 government secondary schools were selected using a census technique. A concurrent mixed-methods research design was employed, utilizing questionnaires and interviews for data collection. The qualitative data were analyzed through verbatim transcription, while the quantitative data were examined using descriptive statistics, including frequency, mean, and percentage. Findings revealed that teachers predominantly adhered to traditional grammar teaching approaches, positioning themselves as the primary source of knowledge while treating students as passive recipients. This reliance on conventional methods suggests a limited integration of communicative and student-centered strategies in grammar instruction. The study highlights the need for pedagogical shifts toward more interactive and learner-centered approaches to enhance grammar teaching effectiveness..

Abstract

The study looks at the work-related motivation and dedication of educators and education staff in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Organization (SDA Church) in the Luwu Tanah Toraja Mission Area as indicators of their performance. The Seventh-day Adventist Church Organization (SDA Church) in the Luwu Tana Toraja Mission Area employs educators and education professionals, and the study examines their work-related motivation and dedication as performance indicators. This study found that motivation and commitment significantly predict the performance of educators and education personnel; however, motivation shows a more dominant influence compared to work commitment. These results support the importance of motivation and commitment in improving performance, although they only account for 16.9% of the variance. Further research is recommended to investigate other variables that affect performance and to expand the scope of the study.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize findings from eight qualitative research articles examining the representation of cultural content in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbooks used in Indonesia. The research is motivated by the increasing emphasis on intercultural competence in language education and the need to align textbook content with national character education and global communication goals. Although EFL textbooks are widely used in Indonesian classrooms as primary instructional materials, concerns have emerged regarding their cultural relevance and inclusivity. A thematic synthesis method was employed to analyze the selected studies, which focused on textbooks published or used in Indonesia between 2016 and 2025. The analysis consisted of three stages: coding primary findings, clustering them into descriptive themes, and synthesizing cross-study analytic themes. The findings reveal four major themes: the dominance of target cultures, superficial representation of cultural and multicultural values, cultural imbalance and bias, and the limited application of intercultural approaches. While some locally developed textbooks introduce Indonesian cultural content, they often fail to support deeper intercultural reflection and engagement. This study concludes that Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbooks need to be more culturally balanced and pedagogically reflective. Integrating intercultural competence into textbook design can better support learners’ linguistic development, national identity formation, and the development of global citizenship. The results necessitate a critical evaluation and revision of textbook content to ensure alignment with both national educational policies and intercultural communication objectives.

Abstract

This paper investigates the poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” by William Wordsworth using an ecocritical approach Ecocriticism focuses on the connection between literature and nature, examines how humans are related with the ecosystem. The study explains how Wordsworth shows nature, especially the beauty of daffodils, and how this relation enhances human emotions and feelings. The poem considers the opinion of Wordsworth that nature has a superpower on the human mind to bring joy and happiness. This indicates that the effect of nature extends and expands even after the time of experience, shifting attitudes and feelings over time.  The research includes the scope of the study, the problem, and the hypothesis. It introduces ecocriticism, examines and explores its historical improvement, and explains its application to Romantic literature, particularly the works of William Wordsworth. Then, the research tackles the studies on the Romantic age’s ecological context, Wordsworth’s personal connection with nature, and previous scholarly interpretations of “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.” It also includes the research methodology and literary framework adopted in this study. Abstract

This study presents a Jungian reading of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, focusing on the Mariner’s psychological transformation through the lens of individuation. Using close reading as the primary method, the analysis explores how the Mariner’s self-states align with Carl Jung’s key archetypes—such as the ego, shadow, anima, and Self—each representing different stages of the individuation process. The Mariner's journey from guilt and alienation, symbolized by the killing of the albatross, to spiritual reconciliation, as reflected in his blessing of the water snakes, mirrors Jung’s theory of integrating unconscious elements into consciousness. This interpretation provides a deeper understanding of the Mariner’s inner conflict and eventual self-realization, while also highlighting the value of applying Jungian psychology to literary analysis. The study underscores how symbolic journeys in literature can mirror the complex process of psychological individuation and self-discovery

Abstract

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is one of the most prominent example of ergodic literature and post-modern work that utilizes unconventional literary tools. Despite the thorough researchs regarding its metafictional nature and symbolic representations, however, there is still little amount of research that studies the novel from a feminist perspective. This study aims to fulfill that gap by examining the female characters in the novel using feminist theories such as Simone de Beauvoir's Other and Judith Butler's performativity. Findings show that House of Leaves depicts its female characters in contradictory ways, both as passive objects and active agents. In spite of these findings, critical analysis of the deliberation of the female characters' actions is still crucial. These instances becomes an example of how the novel shows a tension between its unconventional nature and gender politics. This study contributes to feminist literary critique by emphasizing the need to examine gender inequality even in experimental novels.

Abstract

This study investigated EFL students’ perceptions of using the Cake application as a pedagogical tool to enhance English speaking skills, employing a qualitative, student-centered approach. The data were collected using two modified questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. A purposive sampling method is applied to select the research participants. Thematic content analysis was applied to interpret the data. The research participants consist of 39 EFL students enrolled at one of the State Senior High Schools in Medan who have played Cake more than twice. The findings revealed that most students perceive the Cake app positively, citing improvements in vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation, confidence, and engagement in language learning. Key advantages included interactive features, flexible access, and enjoyable learning experiences. However, limitations such as a lack of grammar instruction in sufficient writing support and internet dependency were also reported. The study suggests that integrating a mobile language learning tool, such as Cake, into a dynamic environment can significantly support the development of speaking proficiency.

Abstract

The importance of meaning in communication is significant, and they can be classified into two categories: Verbal and non-verbal. Various circumstances, the dynamic between speakers, and social elements all have a role. The four language abilities of language acquisition reading, writing, listening, and speaking do not occur in isolation in communicative texts or activities, hence pragmatics in English language learning is crucial. For the language student, developing good pragmatic competence should be taken into account. The application of applied pragmatics in post-pandemic English language learning is discussed in this essay. English-speaking users, both native and non-native, should speak clear, understandable and educated English, as this facilitates communication and reduces the risk of misunderstandings in social situations. In international communication, English has been crucial. In order to successfully achieve their communicative objectives in cross-cultural communication, language users might benefit from pragmatic competence. Therefore, pragmatic aspects play a significant role in communication between speakers as they can prevent misunderstandings and errors during conversation. As a result, teachers should include pragmatic competency in English language classrooms through a variety of tasks and exercises.
