Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find impoliteness strategies used by netizens to Jokowi-Maaruf and netizens to Prabowo-Sandi based on gender in YouTube comments section based on Culpeper`s theory (1996). This research was descriptive qualitative research based on impoliteness strategies phenomena in written language. The data on this research were words, phrases, and sentences in online comments that contained impoliteness strategies found in Indonesian Presidential debate 2019 in YouTube comment. The instruments of this research were Wi-Fi, laptop, writing equipment, and indicators of impoliteness strategies. The results of analysis showed that from 200 comments collected, there were 267 impoliteness strategies found. The reason why number of strategies found bigger than the data collected is because the commentators mostly performed more than one strategy in one utterance. Four by five strategies found in this research were bald on record, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, and sarcasm or mock politeness. The strategies that were not found ware withhold politeness because it only occurred in spoken language. The most used strategies were positive impoliteness. The highest user of positive impoliteness was male netizens to female netizens to Prabowo-Sandi (47%).

Abstract

This study is aimed to expose the issue about the White’s felony which is done by the white people toward the Black and to know the contribution of poetic elements; imagery, irony and repetition in revealing the issue of the White’s felony. This analysis is related to the concept of Otherness by Edward Said in post-colonial approach. The result of this analysis shows that the White’s felonies are done by the policemen, parliament members and societies.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of settling in new land which is done by Chinese immigrants in United States and to know he contribution of character, plot (conflict), and setting in revealing the settling in new land. This analysis is related to the adaptation concept by Wiiliam Butler Yeats in postcolonial approach that is supported by the text and conotext based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows two different characters succeeds to settle in new land that can be seen through their ways of self-adaptation and hard work.

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the attitudes of farmers towards Indonesian language in Alahan Panjang and factors of what makes the farmers in Alahan Panjang had an attitude. This research was descriptive quantitative field that describes the attitude of farmer opinion against the phenomenon of language attitude occurred. This attitude derived from the distribution of research questionnaires and interviews to farmers in Alahan Panjang which has business associates in Indonesian language. Their age restrictions on farmers is between 30-55 years. The results showed 92 out of a total of 100 farmers in Alahan Panjang were used as participants in the study showed a negative attitude towards Indonesian. They are not proud and do not want to use the Indonesian language in which they are located. There are several factors that cause these farmers Indonesian negative towards such social factors, a situation the use of language, gender, prestige, and cultural factors. The results of this study prove that farmers in Alahan Panjang do not want to use the Indonesian language in communication. They will only use the Indonesian language when communicating with people who only understand Indonesian.

Abstract

This article discusses about Minangkabau language, especially semi dead words that occur in Sungayang District, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. Semi dead words are words that are almost dead because the younger generation does not understand at all with the words, while the older generation still uses this word for daily communications. The author discusses what words were used by people in Sungayang Sub-district in daily communication, but these words were not used in the colloquial by the people of this district in the present. In writing this article, the authors are assisted by some informants to provide data information about the words that are not used anymore by people in Sungayang Sub-district in the present time. Then the authors grouped the data according to the type and factors causing the occurrence of semi dead words on the words. The results of this study indicate that the lexicons change (lexical change 89.61%) is the type of word that is almost dead (semi dead words) the most dominant in Sungayang district. Contact language (language contact 89.61%) is the most dominant factor of the occurrence of the word almost dead (semi dead words) in Sungayang District.

Abstract

Figurative language is a way of delivering a message which has an unreal meaning. The use of figurative language usually found in everyday conversation, in literary works, and in public speaking. Most of the speaker stand-up comedy use figurative language in their performance. The purpose of this study is to find the types of minority majors used in stand-up comedy by Hasan Minhaj. This research is descriptive research which consists of exploring the depth of meaning in each figurative language. The researcher uses scanning techniques on the transcription of the appearance video that the researcher got from a trusted site. The results showed that minority figurative language was divided into metaphors, similes, metonymy, irony, allegory, personification and hyperbole. This study also intends to help stand-up comedy audiences in understanding the intentions and objectives of the speaker or comics with the material presented.

Abstract

This article is about the analysis of novel We Need New Names (2013) by NoViolet Bulawayo that focuses on how the main character has an awareness to transform her life. The problem in this analysis is how far the main character in this novel exposes the issue about life transformation. The aim of this analysis is to find out how far NoViolet Bulawayo’s novel We Need New Names bring ups and reveals the issue of life transformation which is done by the main character in this novel. This analysis involved the fictional devices that are plot (conflict) and setting support the issue of life transformation. This analysis is will deal with the concept of life instinct by Sigmund Freud and the concept of self-awareness by Crisp and Turner.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of showing dignity which is done by Black person and to know the contribution of the plot, spectacle, and character in revealing the showing dignity. This analysis is related to the concept of life instincts by Freud, the concept of self-awareness by Crisp-Turner and the concept of power by Michel Foucault that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the protagonist succeeds to show his dignity that can be seen from his knowledge and good manners.

Abstract

AbstractNowadays, humor is something that has significant role in daily life. Humor can be found in any aspects in human life, such as in education, literature, and also entertainment. One of various entertainment in Indonesian Television that contain humor is situation comedy. This research pay attention in analyzing verbal humor by using theory of Shade (1996) and analyze the types of verbal humor by using General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH). The method used in the research is descriptive method. The result of the study shows that there were 81 verbal humor found in sitcom Tetangga Masa Gitu: Pun (1,2%), Joke (2,4%), Satire (32,2%), Anecdote (1,2%), Irony (34,5%), Sarcasm (8,3%), Tall tale (8,3%), and Wit (110,7%). There were no Riddle, Limerick, Parody and Farce in this object. The verbal humor that found in both object was analyzed by using six parameters of Knowledge Resources (KRs) of GTVH. The six parameters are Script Opposition (SO), Logical Mechanism (LM), Situation (SI), Target (Ta), Narrative Strategy (NS), and Language (LA).Key words: Verbal Humor, Types, GTVH, Six Knowledge Resources

Abstract

Skripsi ini merupakan analisa dari tiga puisi berjudul Earth Poem, Daffodils No More, and Acidic Snow. Topik yang dibahas adalah bagaimana kerusakan dan kehancuran lingkungan diakibatkan oleh aktivitas manusia. Permasalah dari kajian ini adalah bagaimana aktivitas-aktivitas manusia melalui eksploitasi dan polusi berakibat pada penurunan nilai-nilai lingkungan. Tujuan dari analisa ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh  mana elemen puisi (irony, paradox, repetition, tone, dan speaker) berperan dalam mengungkap kerusakan lingkungan yang diakibatkan aktivitas manusia. Analisa dilakukan melalui interpretasi teks dan dikaitkan dengan konsep Ecocriticism dari Garrard, Glotfelty, Kerridge, dan Buell. Hasil dari analisa ini menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas manusia yang merusak lingkungan merupakan dampak industrialisasi. Mereka melakukan eksploitasi terhadap unsur – unsur di lingkungan dan sumber dayanya, dan hasil dari eksploitasi ini menghasilkan limbah yang dapat mengakibatkan polusi.
