<![CDATA[The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of the existence of an immigrant through the analysis of the literary devices such as plot, setting. This analysis is related to the concept power and knowledge by Michel Foucault and consciousnessby Sigmund Freud, supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of the analysis shows that the immigrant’s struggles to prove his existence which reflected through his efforts in showing loyalty towards the country and his mindset about the issue in the country.]]>

<![CDATA[Skripsi ini merupakan analisa dari lima puisi berjudul Characteristic of life, Trophic Cascade, The Peditrician Consider His Lobby, How Great The Gardens When They Thrive, and Natural History. Topik yang dibahas adalah bagaimana kejahatan manusia dibalik environmentalism. Permasalahan dari kajian ini strategi politik yang dibuat oleh manusia terhadap lingkungan tanpa memperhatikan efek jangka panjang. Tujuan dari analisa ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana elemen puisi (irony, repetition, tone, dan speaker) berperan dalam mengungkap kejahatan manusia terhadap lingkungan. Analisa dilakukan melalui interpretasi teks dan dikaitkan dengan konsep Ecocriticism dari Garrard, Sahu, Glotfelty and Estok. <![CDATA[This study is the result of the analysis of the novel of Inside Out and Back Again (2011) written by Thanhha Lai. Topics covered are how the business of women from her childhood in reaching the realm to show her existence in the social environment. The issues raised are the extent to which the protagonist expresses the realm accession process to demonstrate its ability, as well as how far the function of fiction elements, such as setting and conflict influential to demonstrate the business. Results of this study is to discover the extent of the protagonist reaches the realm of effort in showing her abilities, and to investigate the role of setting and plot in helping determine those efforts. The theory used in this analysis is the feminist concept of Trinha Minh-ha and psychosocial concept of Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman. Assessment method used is text-based interpretation and context-based interpretation. The results of this analysis indicate that women from an early age can achieve a wider sphere to show his ability by way of awareness of differences and turn them into concrete efforts and spur him to learn more.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aimed at finding the types of logical fallacies on Indonesia presidential debates made particularly by one of the presidential candidates, Joko Widodo, during the 2019 Indonesia presidential debates. The theory of fallacy classification by Damer (2009) which introduces five categories and sixty types of fallacies was employed in this research. Of all the sixty types, only twelve of which were found. The results show that, first, fallacies that violate the rebuttal criterion became the most dominantly occurred category with the occurrence of more than a half number of all occurrences and with five types out of twelve types. Second, abusive ad hominem was the most dominant type made by Jokowi with the frequency of 21.73% and followed by the fallacy of red herring and false alternatives with the same frequency of 17.39.]]>

<![CDATA[Skripsi ini merupakan analisa novel The Convert (2011) karya Deborah Baker. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam analisa ini adalah sejauh mana novel ini merefleksikan usaha dalam mencapai tujuan menjadi seorang muslim. Tujuan analisa ini adalah (1) mengungkapkan sejauh mana tokoh utama dalam novel merefleksikan Exertion, (2) menunjukkan kontribusi elemen fiksi dalam mengungkap permasalahan Exertion. Analisa ini menerapkan text-based interpretation yang mempertimbangkan elemen-elemen fiksi dan unsur-unsur di dalam teks secara spesifik sehingga memberikan kontribusi dalam pengungkapan makna dan context-based interpretation dengan mengaitkan konsep Personality yang dikemukakan oleh Victor Frankl. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama berhasil melakukan usaha untuk bisa menjadi seorang muslim dan melakukan perubahan dari kehidupan lama dan memasuki kehidupan baru dan menyesuaikan diri dengan kehidupan barunya yang di pengaruhi oleh lingkungan sekitar dengan cara pindah keyakinan, mengubah pola pikir, menyesuaikan diri di kehidupan baru. Keinginan, niat, dan tekat yang kuat dari tokoh untuk berubah ke arah yang lebih baik sangat berperan penting dalam proses usaha menjadi seorang Muslim.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this study is analyse the speech style used by Ellen Degeneres in Ellen Talk Show. The title “Ellen Meets a 5-Year-Old Geography Expert”.Ellen Degeneres talk show is a TV show. The objectives of the study are to identify the speech styles used by the host and the guest in Ellen Degeneres Talk show and to identify the dominant speech styles used by the host and the guest on Ellen Degeneres Talk show.The findings of data is quantitative data, is it present in numbers and percentages. In analyzed the data, the writer read the transcript of conversation between Ellen and Nate and analyzed the data based on Joos theory. Then, the data has been presented in the form of a percentage table. The result of this research the writer found there are four speech style used by Ellen and Nate and once of category didn’t exist from this data (frozen style).This research is presenting of the data as main characters utterance containing speech styles. Based on Martin Joos theory (Frozen style, Formal style, Consultative style,Casual style and Intimate style) the writer found the speech styles used by Ellen and Nate, they are casual style that only occurs 11 times or 68%, consultative style that occurs 2 times or 13%, formal style that occurs 2 times or 13%, and intimate style that occurs once or 6%. The mostly used by Ellen and Nate occurs 11 times or 68%. Finally, the writer suggests the next researchers to explore more theories and the newest theory of speech styles.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper discusses the elements of the paragraph in the editorial in Jakarta Post. Jakarta Post is one of the newspapers in Indonesia. The Jakarta Post is a daily English daily newspaper in Indonesia. The Jakarta Post started as a collaboration between four media in Indonesia by urging the Information Minister and politicians. The first edition was printed on April 25, 1983, spending several years with minimal advertising and increasing circulation. After a change in editor-in-chief in 1991, the Jakarta Post began to take a more vocal pro-democracy standpoint. For the validity of this paper, the analysis of the paper is published officially on legitimate online websites. In analyzing the data, I found some of the most frequently mentioned paragraph elements in the editorial. In Jakarta Post's most frequently published editorial is Minor Detail with frequency of 57 times (48%). While Major Detail appears 28 times (24%), then Topic Sentence appears 25 times (21%) and Thesis Statement appears 8 times (7%).]]>

<![CDATA[Politeness strategy is a way that is done by someone to say his speech more politely. The politeness strategy can be found in daily conversations and in debating events. One of the debates of concern for this study is the debate of candidates in the Republican Party. The purpose of this paper is to describe the politeness strategies used in the Republican debate by Donald Trump. This research used the theory of politeness strategy proposed by theory is Brown and Levinson (1987) who classify politeness strategies into four types: Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off Record. The finding of this study indicates that Donald Trump uses only three types of politeness strategies in Republican debate. The most prominent politeness strategy is Positive politeness (55.27%). Other politeness strategies are Negative politeness (22.98%), and Bald on Record (21.73%). It can be concluded that Donald Trump mostly uses Positive politeness strategy in delivering his speech for Republican Party debate.]]>

<![CDATA[The conversation in therapeutic is a kind of institutional discourse that have its own characteristic to make the communication. This research aims to find the language function in the Cupping conversation between the therapist and the patient. This research uses descriptive method. The data of this research are the the transcriptions of recorded conversation between the therapist and the patient. The sources of this data are the conversation from five therapist and each therapist have four patients. Hence, there are 20 conversation recorded in this research. The records of their conversations are transcribed as the data. The theory that used in this research is Leech (1974) to show language functions of the conversation. The result of this research shows that the conversation between the Cupping therapists and the patients have the tendency to used several forms of language functions. It is found that almost all conversations contained the informative language, directive language, and phatic language.]]>

<![CDATA[The word address term is the word person use to call or greet others. Batak Toba language has various forms of greeting words used in communicating with someone. This study aims to find out the forms of the word greetings based on kinship or family system used by Batak Toba people who live in Padang Pasir Parupuk Tabing as nomads. This study will also explain and describe the communicative function the use of greeting. The method used in this research is descriptive method that describes and process data based on facts that exist in the field. This research is focused on the forms and functions of the address terms word in Batak Toba language. Data were collected through interview with some informants and made notes. In this study, the informants are Batak Toba People who has blood relations and marriage. Data were analyzed based on the forms of address terms based on kinship system of Batak Toba. The results of research indicate that there are various address terms used by Batak Toba ethnic especially in kinship relationship based on lineage and marriage that used by Batak Toba people. Interestingly, there are several forms of greeting words that are similar to each other. ]]>
