Abstract

Implementation of good cultivation systems can improve onion (Allium ascalonicum L.) yield. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of tuber cuttings and the  dose of NPK fertilizer on the growth and yield of onion. The experimental design was factorial randomized block design arranged consisting of two factors. The first factor was tuber cuttings which consists of without and with  ¼ and 1/3 cut; the second one was dosage of NPK fertilizer which consists of without and with 200 kg/ha; 400 kg/ha; 600 kg/ha. There are 12 combinations of treatments, each of which is repeated three times. The results showed that there was no interaction effect between tuber cutting and NPK dosages on growth and yield of onion. independent effect of tuber cuttings and NPK dosages also didn’t inflence both parameter. Tuber cuttings  only increase pant height at one and two weeks after planting. Overall, cutting-quarter of the tuber could induce better fresh  weight and dry weight of tubers although statistically didn’t significant.

Abstract

Characteristics of mineral-mine tailings deposited in agricultural areas do not meet the requirements for food crop cultivation. The objective of the experiment was to obtain the information on the improvement of plant growth planted in mercury-contaminated tailings after adding organic matter and nitrogen fixing bacteria, Azotobacter. The greenhouse trial was set up in randomized factorial design which tested the Azotobacter inoculation consentrations and organic matter doses. There was no interaction effect between the two treatments on the growth of four-week old corn. Both organic matter and Azotobacter had a positive impact on vegetative growth of corn.

Abstract

Chili (Capsicum annnum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities that has economic value. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of root extract of tubal (Derris elliptica) on various concentration levels to control Trips pavispinnus in red chili plants. The treatment tried is three extra concentrations of the tubal root; 10, 20, and 30 g of tubal root / water and one treatment without tubal roots as a control. The treatment was designed using a randomized block design with three replications. Rensposes observed were percentages of Trips pavispinnus mortality. The results showed that the extract of the root of the tuba can control the pest of Trips pavispinnus. The concentration of 10 g / L of water can kill the Trips pavispinnus to 74.42% on the day after application. To be able to prevent the loss of red chilli plants due to a series of  Trips pavispinnus, farmers can take advantage of extracts from the root of the tube, and are an environmentally friendly pest control method. Keywords: Chili, Derris elliptica, Tuba root, Trips pavispinnus

Abstract

Pest is one of the biological limiting factors that led to low production of potatoes. The use of pesticides is a solution in controlling pests. The objective of this study was to determine the diversity and evenness of insect; and potato yield losses due to insecticide applications methods. The treatment was controlled and intensive insecticide application which were compared with no insecticide application.  The experiment was set up in completely randomized design with five replications. The results showed that the insects are dominated by Empoasca sp, Liriomyza sp and Miridae. The highest insect population was Empoasca sp. i.e 80.83 Empoasca sp. which was found in control treatment. Controlled and intensive  application of insecticides decreased insect  population up to 56.50 and 26.17. Evenness index of insect and economic value of lost results unaffected by differences in pesticide application methods

Abstract

Drought is one of natural disaster that is commonly difficult to avoid and become a serious problem in crop production in Indonesia. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the probability of dry spell during several days and its used to determine  safety growing season in Ambon City. Data analyse was conducted in three steps, that is (1) determination of growing season by FAO (1978); ( 2) analysis of dry spell probability; and (3) determination safety growing season. Result of analysis indicated that the growing season in Ambon City took place during 10 months from December to September next year. During the growing season, the probability occuring of long dry spell  (as much as 10, 15, and 20 days) was relatively smaller, less than 45%. The Probability of the dry spell as much as 10 days was equal to 13% on Juli and up to 42% on September; more than as much as 15 days was equal  to 3% on April and May; and up to 19% on September, and as much as 20 days was  equal to 0% on April and May; and up to 13% on September. High dry spell probability was generally occurred by the end of the growing season in September, whereas the lowest probability of dry spell occured in April and May when almost has no long dry spell.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine characters of several drought tolerance and high yield upland rice variety under low soil water content in intercrops rice – grass system. The study was carried out in rain water irrigation area of Banjaranyar village. Experimental design was Split Plot Design with three replicates. The  Main plot was grass i.e no grass, elephant grass and lemon grass while  sub plot was upland rice variety i.e. Situ Patenggang, Kalimutu, Danau Gaung, Jatiluhur dan Cisokan. Under very low soil water content (<12%), there was growth and yield differenc between rice varieties grown in intercrops system with grass. Eventhough there was no effect of this intercrop system on plant growth of upland rice, elephant grass promote  higher rice yield, 0.88 t/ha than that without grass (0.39 t/ha) and with lemongrass (0.60 t/ha). Kalimutu variety showed the higher yield (1.38 t/ha)  with plant height  up to 46.27 cm and leaf area up to 4.63 cm2.

Abstract

This study aims was to determine the potential of water fern Azolla pinnata combined with biofertilizer (Azotobacter chroococcum N2-fixing bacteria and Pseudomonas cepaceae phosphate solublelizing bacteria) in improving N and P content of the soil, and yield of paddy rice crops. This research was conducted in lowland Sanggar Penelitian Latihan dan Pengembangan Pertanian (SPLPP), Ciparay Bandung regency. The experimental design used was randomized block design with factorial pattern that consists of two factors. The first factor that A. pinnata (A) consists of two levels, without A. pinnata and A. pinnata with as 3 tons ha-1. The second factor is the biological fertilizer (H) consists of 3 levels with doses of 0, 5, and 10 L ha-1. The results showed A. pinnata and biofertilizer do not interact to increased soil N and P, as well as lowland rice crops. However, A. pinnata independently can increase the content of available N and P soil, while the biofertilizer 10 L ha-1 is able to increase the available soil-P content compared with controls. The combination of A. pinnata and biofertilizers have not been able to increase the yield of rice significantly, but can increase the yield of rice by 16.1 % compared to the average yield of rice in paddy field locations in Ciparay Bandung regency
