Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of dry corn husk fiber layers with a 50% volume fraction on the mechanical properties of composites made using the hand lay-up method and alkali NaOH treatment. The corn husk fibers were treated with 4% NaOH for 1, 2, and 3 hours at temperatures of 80°C, 90°C, and 100°C to produce composites with polyester resin. Tensile and bending tests were conducted according to ASTM D-638 and ASTM D-790 standards. The results showed that NaOH treatment for 3 hours at 90°C produced the highest tensile strength of 21.1 Mpa, while NaOH treatment for 1 hour at 80°C produced the highest bending strength of 53.0 Mpa. On the other hand, NaOH treatment for 2 hours at 80°C resulted in the lowest tensile strength of 5.84 Mpa, and NaOH treatment for 2 hours at 100°C resulted in the lowest bending strength of 8.53 Mpa. Longer treatment durations and higher temperatures effectively remove lignin and hemicellulose, increasing tensile strength but can damage the fiber structure for bending tests. This study demonstrates the potential of corn husk fibers as an environmentally friendly and sustainable composite material.

Abstract

One of the leading exports in Indonesia is coal and contributes significantly to the country's economy. However, there is coal that cannot be exported because it has a size dimension that is too small, therefore research is carried out to make briquettes. The purpose of this research is to get the best results from testing volatile matter and ash content with different temperatures, times, water:molasses fractions. The highest volatile matter test results were obtained from 100 ? temperature, 90 minutes time and water:molasses fraction (3:1) with a value of 31.73% and the lowest value was obtained from 120 ? temperature, 60 minutes time and water:molasses fraction (3:1) with a value of 23%. While the highest ash content test results were obtained from a drying temperature of 120 ?, time 90 minutes and water:molasses fraction (3:2) with a value of 48.6% and the lowest value was obtained from a drying temperature of 100 ?, time 60 minutes and water:molasses fraction (3:2) with a value of 41.83%. From the test results of volatile matter and ash content, it still does not meet SNI standards.

Abstract

Coal is an alternative energy that is used as energy for electricity generation and so on. The results of burning coal produce several wastes that are difficult to process and reuse, one of the wastes produced is fly ash, fly ash waste has several contents similar to cement material, one of which is silica. Use of fly ash as an additive to concrete bricks. This research aims to determine the effect of using fly ash as an additional material on compressive strength tests on concrete bricks and to determine the highest and lowest values ??of the composition of fly ash and sand. In this research, we will use the full factorial method to determine the number of specimens that will be made in the research, variations in the composition of fly ash: sand used are 10%: 60%, 20%: 50%, and 30%: 40%, with a ratio of cement: water fixed 2 : 1 and drying for 3 and 5 days. Compressive strength testing will be carried out on 6 specimens with 3 replications on each specimen so that the total number of specimens tested is 18 specimens. Based on the results of the best compressive strength test on specimen No.1 with a mixture of fly ash (10%): sand (60%), with a drying time of 3 days, the average maximum strength was 57.91 kg/cm2, while the strength test results The lowest pressure was produced on sample No. 4 with a composition of fly ash (10%) : sand (60%) with a drying time of 5 days which produced an average compressive strength test result which had a maximum value of 30.59 kg/cm2.

Abstract

 The oil-draining machine at UMKM Jabal Dinar experienced excessive vibration issues, rendering it inoperative for approximately four years. This problem impacted the quality of the spinach chips produced. This study aims to identify the main causes of unstable vibrations in the oil-draining machine, analyze their effects on product quality, and develop improvement strategies to enhance the machine's vibration stability. The method employed was experimental, with initial vibration measurements reaching 20,83 mm/s, classified in Zone D (red) according to the ISO 10816-3 standard, indicating very high vibrations that could lead to severe damage if not addressed. Modifications were made by replacing the shaft, bearings, and pulleys, as well as performing proper alignment. The improvements resulted in a significant reduction in vibration, positively impacting product quality and extending the machine's lifespan. The study concludes that component modifications and alignment corrections effectively reduced excessive vibrations in the oil-draining machine, ultimately increasing production efficiency and reducing damage to the spinach chips.

Abstract

Machine tools are machines used to produce products in the industrial sector. Machine tools that have been used for a very long time will naturally experience a decrease in performance, this is also experienced by the Bemato Series 44378 BU 27 lathe in Polman Negeri Babel which has entered its service life for approximately 10 years. The factors that affect the results of lathe machining are machining parameters, including cutting speed, cutting depth, and engine rotation speed. To find out how good the performance of the lathe can be done in various ways or tests, one of which is the cylindricity test. The material used in this test is st-41 steel. From the results of the research conducted, the largest deviation in cylindricity of the Bemato Series 44378 BU 27 lathe is 769 ?m. Based on the deviations that occur when compared with the Grades of tolerance table, the results are included in the IT 15 grade. This value can be concluded that the BU 27 machine has experienced a decline in performance that is very far from its minimum standard, and is only capable of producing workpieces with tolerances above 769 ?m. With this decline in performance, the lathe that was studied must be repaired and maintained immediately so that the performance of the machine can be returned to standard conditions.

The Bangka Belitung Islands consist of two main islands, namely Bangka Island and Belitung Island, which have abundant marine natural resource potential. One of the typical products of the seafood is Kericu, which is a snack made from squid eggs and sago. Kericu has become a special souvenir that is in demand and has become a home-based business opportunity. UMKM "Ampiang Yu Erin" is one of the producers of keriku whose manufacture is still using manual methods, which causes obstacles in terms of worker fatigue and product inconsistencies. To overcome this problem, modifications to the crevice forming machine are carried out to improve production efficiency and product uniformity. Abstract

The increasing dependence on fossil fuels drives the need for alternative energy solutions to reduce environmental impacts and reliance on petroleum. Coal, particularly anthracite, has emerged as one of the best options due to its abundant availability in Indonesia. However, coal combustion often results in the emission of harmful gases, requiring special handling. This study aims to develop coal briquettes using lime water as a binder. In addition to improving the mechanical characteristics of the briquettes, lime water is also intended to reduce sulfur gas emissions during the briquette combustion process. The briquettes were produced using a binder-to-water ratio (5:6, 5:7, 5:8, 5:9), pressing pressure (8, 9, 10 tons), and drying time (2, 4, 6 days). Compression testing was conducted following the ISO 844 standard using a Universal Testing Machine. The highest result in this study was 502 kPa (5.11 kg/cm²), achieved with a binder-to-water ratio of 5:9, a pressing pressure of 8 tons, and a drying time of 4 days. However, this result remains far below the SNI standard (50 kg/cm²).

Abstract

The 3D printer filament extruder is a machine used to melt and extrude filament for 3D printing processes. Thermoplastics are one type of plastic commonly used in filament production due to their durability, strength, and ease of molding, making them a preferred material for filament manufacturing. Filament is produced through an extrusion process using a machine equipped with a high-temperature heating system to shape the filament. The aim of this research is to design, construct, and test a 3D printing filament extruder to produce filament. This research produces a 3d printing filament extruder machine with a vertical position that uses a DC motor as a driving mechanism, while chains and sprockets are used to reduce rotation and increase rotational torque. Based on the results of the trials conducted, the barrel temperature of 250 ° C and the screw rotation speed of 5 RPM which produces a filament diameter that is close to the standard for filament use with an average filament diameter of 1.97 mm.

Abstract

The development of technology every year has increased so rapidly. Current technology is developed in various new innovations. Due to the increasing use of metals reducing the availability of natural resources, therefore alternative materials that are environmentally friendly and renewable are needed. Technology in the field of materials, for example, natural fiber composites reinforced with kapok banana stem fiber and bamboo fiber. The purpose of this study was to determine how variations in the volume fraction of hybrid composites can affect the tensile strength of composite materials. Tests were conducted using the ASTM D638-1 standard. The analysis used a direct experimental design method. This study used variations in the volume fraction of kapok banana stem fiber: bamboo fiber 10%: 20%, 15% : 15%, and 20%: 10%. Liquid smoke soaking time is 2 hours. The average value of the tensile test is highest in the composition of kapok banana stem fiber: 10% bamboo fiber: 20% with an average value of 45.8 MPa, while for the lowest tensile test value in the composition of kapok banana stem fiber: 20% bamboo fiber: 10% with an average value of 42.1 MPa.

Abstract

The automatic fire extinguishing industry continues to evolve to improve fire detection and response efficiency, especially for small sectors like foodcourt SMEs and small shops, which are vulnerable to fire risks. This study aims to design an affordable and effective automatic fire extinguishing system based on Arduino Uno, using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method and House of Quality (HoQ) to translate customer needs, such as fast fire detection, minimalist design, low power consumption, and cost-efficient production, into technical specifications. The system integrates a flame sensor for fire detection, DC motors for movement, and a water pump for fire extinguishing, designed modularly to operate in confined spaces. The research findings show that this design not only meets customer needs but also provides a practical and cost-effective solution to enhance fire safety in small sectors, with a system that is fast, efficient, and affordable.
