Abstract

Bangka Belitung is one of the provinces with the largest pineapple production in Sumatra, but the pineapple leaves have not been processed and are still considered waste. Currently, the use of pineapple trees is only for the fruit. Even though pineapple leaves have very strong fiber and can be used as a composite of natural fibers. Composites reinforced with natural fibers have excellent corrosion resistance properties, as well as lower production costs, and are considered more environmentally friendly. The research objective was to obtain the highest tensile and impact testing values ??for volume fractions of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% with 5% NaOH alkaline treatment for 2 hours. Making samples using the hand lay-up method. The analysis was carried out using the direct experimental design method, in which the effect of the ratio of the volume fraction of the fiber after immersion in 5% NaOH for 2 hours on the tensile strength and impact strength would be seen. The result is the highest tensile strength of 52.6 MPa at 25% fiber volume fraction and a decrease in tensile strength at 30% and 35% volume fraction. The lowest tensile strength was at 35% volume fraction with a tensile test strength value of 24.7 Mpa, while the highest impact test results were 26.5 kj/m² at 30% volume fraction, while the lowest impact strength was 11 kj/m². This is because more and more distribution of fiber in the resin in each composite will strengthen the bond between the matrix and the fiber which causes the composite to be sturdy and not brittle, but if the fiber is above 30% it will result in a decrease in strength due to imperfect bonding of the resin and fiber. Vice versa, a few fibers will make the reinforcing bond unbalanced and tend to decrease its strength. For fiber test results above 20%, it can be used as a new composite material for making helmets according to SNI standards.

Abstract

The buildup of sugarcane bagasse fiber and coconut pulp fiber will cause rotting and an unpleasant odor, therefore it needs to be handled seriously. One of them is making natural fiber composites. The aim of the research was to obtain the highest tensile test value for a hybrid composite of coconut fiber and sugarcane fiber in the roots, stems and shoots with a volume fraction of 10% sugarcane fiber - 20% coconut fiber, 20% sugarcane fiber - 10% coconut fiber and sugarcane fiber. 15% - Coconut Fiber 15%, with 5% NaOH alkaline treatment for 2 hours. Samples were made using the hand lay-up method. The analysis was carried out using the direct experimental design method. The result was the highest tensile strength of 17.2 Mpa at a volume fraction of 10% Sugarcane Fiber - 20% Coconut Fiber and there was a decrease in tensile strength at a volume fraction of 20% Sugarcane Fiber - 10% Coconut Fiber. The lowest tensile strength is at a volume fraction of 20% Sugarcane Fiber - 10% Coconut Fiber with a tensile test strength value of 6.6 Mpa, meaning that the more fiber distribution in the resin in each composite will strengthen the bond between the matrix and fiber which causes the composite to be strong and not brittle. . In the micro photo, soaking in 5% NaOH for 2 hours was not able to clean the dirt or film attached to the coconut fiber, whereas in sugar cane fiber, soaking for 2 hours was able to clean the layer or dirt on the fiber. Dirt that sticks to it will affect the bond between the fiber and resin.

Abstract

Various types of trees grow in Indonesia, one of which is the Nyatoh tree. Uses: This nyatoh wood tree is very useful as a material for building houses, making furniture, and so on. In the process of processing nyatoh trees into finished materials, shavings or powder will be produced, but the use of shavings or powder has not been utilized optimally. So the rest of the process makes the surrounding environment dirty and unsightly. This composite material has the advantages of adjustable strength, excellent fatigue strength, corrosion resistance, light weight and very low production costs. The aim of this research is to determine the tensile test value of nyatoh wood powder composites at volume fractions of 5%, 10%, 15% with a mesh size factor of 100, 150, 200 and a curing time of 2 hours with a heating temperature of 60 ?, 80 ?, 100 ?. The research method used is the full factorial method. The composite material is made using the hand-lay-up method. The highest tensile strength value in this research was a 5% sample with a mesh size of 200 and a curing time temperature of 60 ? with a tensile test result of 30.60 Mpa. Meanwhile, the lowest tensile strength result was 10.97 Mpa at a powder fraction of 5% with a mesh size of 100 and a curing time with a temperature of 60 ?. The size of the mesh greatly influences the tensile testing, where the higher the mesh used, the tensile strength increases. Meanwhile the heating process (curring time) also has an influence, but not so big, the higher the temperature of the curing time will cause a decrease in tensile strength.

Abstract

One source of natural fiber whose utilization still needs to be developed is fiber from corn husk which is cheap, abundant and environmentally friendly. The increasing production of corn plants causes an increase in corn husk waste which is also higher. Even though this corn husk has very strong fiber and can be used as a composite of natural fibers. Composites reinforced with natural fibers have excellent corrosion resistance properties, as well as lower production costs, are more abundant and are considered to be more environmentally friendly. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of soaking 7% NaOH for 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours and the effect of curing time at temperatures of 95°, 105° and 115° for 4 hours on the tensile strength of the corn husk fiber woven composite and to determine whether corn husk woven fiber composite can be applied as a car bumper manufacture. Making samples using the hand lay-up method. The analysis was performed using the factorial method. The highest results were found in the tensile test specimens using a variation of NaOH immersion time for 2 hours at a temperature of 95°C having a tensile test strength of 19.93 MPa. Meanwhile, the lowest tensile test strength value was 12.13 MPa using a variation of NaOH immersion time for 3 hours with a temperature of 115°C. Based on the standard for making car bumpers, the corn husk woven fiber composite can be applied as an alternative material for making car bumpers.

Abstract

Optimal surface roughness results are the desired goal in the machining process on a CNC machine, the appropriate machining process variables must be adjusted in order to obtain an optimal workpiece surface roughness response. The research that has been carried out aims to determine the effect of variables on the surface roughness of the St 40 steel machining process in CNC machining and the optimal setting of the CNC machining process variable on the response value of the St 40 steel surface roughness. The machining process variables that are varied are cutting speed and depth of infeed. The optimization method used is the Response Surface Method. The experimental design was determined based on a 2-factor CCD. Experiments were carried out according to the experimental design of variable cutting speed with levels of 200 m/minute, 230 m/minute, and 260 m/minute and variable depth of ingestion with levels of 0.6 mm, 0.8 mm, and 1 mm to determine the optimal variable level. on the surface roughness of St 40 steel. The results showed that the influence of the variable cutting speed and depth of infeed did not significantly affect the surface roughness of St 40 steel and at the variable level optimization setting the minimum optimal value was obtained, namely at the cutting speed at 19.92 m/ minute and the depth of ingestion is at 5.58 mm and the resulting surface roughness value is smaller than 1,00 µm.

Abstract

Technology is currently experiencing rapid development, especially in the field of industrial engineering materials. One of the advances in industrial engineering materials is the use of ornamental plants as materials for making composites. Natural fiber reinforced composites are the right choice to be used as composite materials. The aim of the research is to obtain the highest tensile test values at fiber lengths of 60 mm, 80 mm, 100 mm and fiber volume fractions of 10%, 20%, 30% with 6% NaOH alkaline treatment for 1 hour and heating at 80? for 2 hours. The method used is full factorial. Samples were made using the hand lay-up method. The influence of fiber length and fiber volume fraction on tensile testing is very large. The longer the fiber used, the greater the tensile strength. Likewise with the percentage of fiber, the more it is, the stronger it is. The highest tensile strength was 39.03 Mpa at a fiber length of 100 mm and a volume fraction of 30%. Meanwhile, the lowest tensile strength result was 15.07 MPa at a fiber length of 60 mm and a fiber volume fraction of 10%. From the test results, the tongue-in-law composite can be used to make helmets, because its tensile strength value is higher than the tensile strength of SNI helmet material which is only 33.93 MPa.

Abstract

Composite is a type of material or new material made from engineering, consisting of two or more materials, composed of fiber as reinforcement and matrix as adhesive or fiber binder. Carbon fiber is a synthetic fiber that has a very thin size of around 0.1 mm which is very strong and light. This research aims to determine the effect of curing time and other parameters on the flexural strength of carbon fiber composites with Hollow Glass Microsphere (HGM) Filler. Data analysis uses Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The highest average bending test results were found in test 1 with parameters of fiber percentage of 30%, fiber length of 100 mm and curing time of 6 hours of 212 MPa. The lowest average test was in the 20th test, with parameters of fiber percentage of 10%, fiber length of 100 mm and curing time of 6 hours of 72.5 MPa. An increase in the curing time value will result in a decrease in flexural strength. Because the longer the caring time takes, the harder and more brittle the carbon fiber becomes. Another effect is that the fibers experience shrinkage and become smaller so that they form voids or small holes between the fibers and the matrix. A higher percentage of fiber influences the resulting bending strength to be stronger. Because the forces that resist during the testing process are more numerous andlarge. The effect of fiber length on flexural strength does not have a significant effect.
