Abstract

Code mixing is a linguistic phenomenon that commonly occurs in multilingual societies, including in the world of film. This research aims to explore the use of code mixing in the context of film as a means of cultural expression and intercultural communication. The research method used is qualitative analysis of various film examples from various genres and countries. This study highlights that code mixing in films can represent the cultural identity of certain characters, locations, or social groups. This is reflected in the simultaneous or alternate use of different languages, including a mixture of local languages with foreign languages or official languages with informal dialects. Code mixing can also be used to enhance humor, express deeper emotions, or show the social status of characters in the story. Code mixing in films is not just a linguistic coincidence but a conscious choice that can enrich narratives, bring characters to life, and connect audiences with the multilingual richness that exists in the real world. This research has the potential to provide guidance for filmmakers in utilizing code mixing effectively to achieve broader communicative and artistic goals.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between facial expressions and the character of five-year-old children through the perspectives of semiotics, psychology, and nonverbal communication. A child's facial expressions are considered important indicators in revealing their emotions and personality. Using a semiotic approach, this research analyzes the nonverbal signs present in the child's facial expressions, which can provide a deeper understanding of their nature and character. In the framework of psychology, facial expressions are seen as manifestations of emotional states related to the child's personality type, such as melancholic, sanguine, choleric, or phlegmatic. Additionally, the aspect of nonverbal communication in this study focuses on how children interact through facial expressions, indicating their level of concentration, assertiveness, or calmness. Based on the analysis of nonverbal signs, semiotic systems, and personality types, this study concludes that the child in the image shows characteristics of a choleric personality, with a determined facial expression, a defensive posture (arms crossed), and a focused gaze, suggesting dissatisfaction or resistance. Furthermore, other nonverbal signs also indicate sanguine traits with a cheerful expression and relaxed body, as well as melancholic traits with a serious expression and introspective tendency. The combination of these signs indicates that the child possesses a dominant, social, and sensitive character, with a tendency towards deep emotional feelings.

Abstract

The issue of inferior learning results resulting from the learning process's propensity to employ less creative learning models serves as the backdrop for this study. This study aims to identify the effect of the scrumble learning model on learning outcomes. This research method uses literature reviews from 3 databases, namely Google Scholar, Garuda Portal, and ERIC using the keywords "Scramble Model", "Learning Outcomes",. The inclusion criteria are articles published in 2019-2023, free full text, there is a publisher name, volume and issue and are included in the experimental design. The results of this literature review found 8 articles discussing the impact of instructional approaches on the learning outcomes of student. All articles show that the scrumble method can improve student learning outcomes as evidenced by the increase in post-test scores from pre-test scores. The study's findings suggest that using the scramble learning paradigm can encourage student collaboration and produce a positive learning environment so that teachers can apply the scramble learning model to enhance the academic performance of students

ABSTRACT Literary work is a manifestation of concepts and reflections conveyed by a writer. The study utilizes descriptive and interpretative stylistic methodology. The poem "Elegy of Hemostasis" by Wiranagara serves as the primary data source for this research. The result of this research is that through a stylistic study of the triangular theory of love, it can be seen that this poem not only speaks about the experience of passionate love but also the process of searching for meaning, letting go of the past, and the commitment to create a new love. Each element of love in Sternberg's theory appears in the form of symbols, diction, and imagery that provide deep meaning to the emotional journey experienced by the speaker in the lyrics.Every love poem written by Wiranagara conveys a different interpretation of love and always ends either with sadness or happiness.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the challenges related to reading comprehension and critical thinking among elementary school students. Specifically, it examines the effectiveness of a pop-up book-assisted problem-based learning model in enhancing sixth-grade students' abilities to read, understand fictional stories, and think critically. Employing a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, the study first conducted qualitative research, followed by quantitative research. Qualitative data were collected through observations of teachers and students, while quantitative data were gathered via tests. The qualitative phase yielded a positive outcome, demonstrating an 80% success rate in improving students' reading comprehension and critical thinking skills with the pop-up book-assisted model. The quantitative phase further revealed that students who used this model achieved reading comprehension and critical thinking scores exceeding the minimum completion criterion of 70. Mastery of reading, understanding, and critical thinking is crucial for elementary students as it prepares them for subsequent educational levels.
