Abstract

The study aimed to determine the right type of organic mulch on the growth and production of mustard plants that included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, shoot fresh weight root fresh weight, shoot dry weight and root dry weight. A completely randomized design was applied in the experiment using organic mulch as a treatment consisting of control, alang-alang leaves, gamal leaves and lamtoro leaves. The results showed that treatment without mulch (control) gave the highest values on all parameters and the lowest was in the treatment of gamal leaves mulch. Mulch of lamtoro leaves indicated the highest fresh weight of shoot compared to the use of alang-alang leaves and gamal leaves.

Abstract

Assessment of chemical properties for 6 soil samples for its fertility in the study area was as follows: Soil pH ranged from acid to slightly acid (5.0-6.0), C-organic low to very high (0.64-7.9%), N-total very low to low (0.09-0.25%), P-available (Bray I) very low to low (0.0-12.4 ppm), very low to moderate Ca (0.0-8.9 me/100 g), very low to high Mg (0.2-4.9 me/100 g), very low to moderate K (0.0-0.3 me/100 g), very low to low Na (0.0-0.1 me/100 g), low CEC (2.7-13.7 me/100 g), very low to very high base saturation BS (5.6-78.9%). The soil fertility status at the study sites only used CEC parameters (cmol/kg), BS (%), organic matter (%) and P2O5 ppm. Soil fertility status in the study area ranged from very low (SR), low (R), to moderate (S). Based on the assessment of the land suitability class on the four plantations of coconut, cocoa, cloves and nutmeg, it can be seen that the plantation commodity group which was considered to have the S3 land suitability class (as marginal) is 4.146 Ha or 86.7%, and N (not suitable) accordingly was an area of 636 Ha or 13.3%. With soil physical limiting factors: Rooting medium (rc): Soil depth, - Danger of erosion (eh): Slope. Limiting Factor of Agroclimatology/climate (wa): Rainfall, Nutrient Availability (na): N, P, K.

Abstract

Soil degradation on shrubbery is higher than the mixed planting with indicators of soil degradation are pedestal, root plant exposure, rill and gully. Individually, the extent of land use, the density of upper vegetation and the density of lower vegetation have significant effects on the soil degradation at mixed plantation and shrub. Simultaneously, the extent area of land use, the density of upper vegetation and the density of lower vegetation have significant effect on the soil degradation at mixed plantation and shrubbery. The factors that have the greatest effect on the soil degradation at mixed plantation are the extent area of land use and density of lower vegetation, meanwhile those factors in the shrubbery are the density of upper and lower vegetation.

Abstract

The current research aimed to analyze the relative efficiency level of enbal (sago starch) agro-industries. The relative efficiency analysis on 32 DMUs of enbal agro-industries showed that 40,63% of the industries were efficient and 59.38% were inefficient. Every efficient DMU became the reference for the inefficient DMUs based on the suggested quality. Each DMU of the enbal agro-industries has not reached a good efficiency level, which was indicated by the average relative efficiency scale of 0.886. This was a relatively low value, and improvements on the use of production input were needed. The analysis result on the DMUs of the enbal agro-industries which were on constant return to scale position were 40,62%. This showed that enbal agro-industries actors have applied production input efficiently, for the production increase was equal to the use of input. In other words, the use of input was more proportional. The DMUs of enbal agro-industries which were on decreasing return to scale position were 15,63%. This showed that the use of production input had been unsuitable so that the output decreases and the production cost increased. Meanwhile, the DMUs that were on increasing return to scale position were 43,75%. This showed that the industry actors who used certain production input would create efficient DMUs. On the other hand, the input excess would possibly decrease the output. As a result, the industry actors should be concerned about the use of production input in order to establish business efficiency.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the land suitability for horticultural commodities based on physical condition data of the land, to determine the limiting factors in the field and to give recommendation to improve the land use for horticultural commodities. This research was conducted in Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon Sub District in September-October 2016. This research was divided into three phases: preparatory phase of research which included secondary data collection and digitizing land unit map, field research stage covering primary data collection or field checking using free survey techniques, as well as data analysis and reporting stages that will be revealed in maps and land suitability for horticultural commodities as well as recommendations for improvement of the limiting factors. The results showed that based on the actual land suitability assessment there were only five suitable plants is rambutan, gandaria, durian, duku and pineapple. Whereas based on the actual suitability of the selected land, the appropriate plants were durian, duku and pineapple. The results of the study also indicate that there were several limiting factors, namely the availability of water, the availability of oxygen, rooting media and erosion hazard that can be improved by applying soil and water conservation techniques.
