Abstract

Every Muslim believes that the Qur'an is the main source of Islamic teachings. The foregoing is a compulsory religious doctrine, and one cannot be called a good Muslim if he/she violates that belief. Thus, every Islamic educational institution must really make the Qur'an the main material which must be studied, and more specifically in the boarding school education. Reading or reciting, writing, memorizing, and making the Qur’an the life’s guidance are of the competencies that Muslim children must acquire. Hence, how is the interest of students from the Arrahmah Islamic Boarding School of Curup, Bengkulu, in memorizing the Qur'an? The foregoing became a major problem in this study whose answer had to be found by means of a qualitative approach. For the sake of garnering the accurate data, the researcher used interview and direct observation techniques conducted in the Arrahmah Islamic boarding school of Curup, Bengkulu. The present study revealed some internal and external factors influencing students’ interest in memorizing the Qur’an. Furthermore, the teachers’ efforts to increase students’ interest in memorizing the Qur’an fell into several ways: giving motivation, instilling habits to rehearse memorization/muraja'ah, maintaining good manners, increasing religious guidance activities, giving assignments, adding time allocation of learning, and improving the learning media and resources. Keywords: interest, memorizing the Qur’an, Islamic Boarding School students

Abstract

Teacher is a noble profession. That is why teachers are often called the unsung heroes. It is because of teachers; a nation can develop and be civilized along with the development of other nations. In carrying out the mandate as the frontline in educating children of the nation, teachers are required to have high professionalism. However, such a point does not go hand in hand with the welfare efforts made for them, especially for those of the non-permanent teachers. Anchored in this assumption, this study sought to find out a depiction of learning effectiveness held by the non-permanent teachers at SMA 1 Muhammadiyah Curup, Bengkulu. This study applied a qualitative approach. Observation and interviews were deployed as the data collection tools. The data were further analyzed qualitatively. The conclusion revealed that the status of being non-permanent teachers did not reduce the effectiveness of their performance in carrying out their duties as teachers albeit in the midst of uncertain and incompatible salary compared to the whole services they provided and the lack of learning facilities at the school.  Keywords: learning effectiveness, professionalism, non-permanent teachers

Abstract

This study aims to describe the local wisdom of the fishery tradition of Mandarese Tribe associated with Islamic value. Data was collected using interview and literature studies, then analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The majority of the Mandarese people are Muslims who inhabit areas on the West coast of the Sulawesi Island. The primary profession of the Mandarese people is fishermen who have local wisdom in the form of belief in occult things at sea so that natural phenomena and supernatural powers become the driving force of spiritual energy. Some rituals need to be performed before and after sailing. This form of knowledge is known as the “paissangang posasiang” by the Mandarese people. Besides, some restrictions must not be violated (pemali). There is a combination of Islamic value and local wisdom within the Mandarese people, such as the belief in the figure of the Prophet Khidr, reading the Surah Yaasin when during a wind storm (laso anging), reading barzanji, praying for salvation based to Islamic value led by a kyai (annannguru).
