Abstract

Bullying is a form of violence that frequently occurs in school environments and poses a serious challenge for junior high school or Islamic junior high school (MTs) students, particularly during early adolescence, a stage characterized by identity exploration. The impact of bullying can affect various aspects of victims’ lives, including psychological, social, physical, and academic domains. This study aims to describe the level of social support received by MTs students who have experienced bullying. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach with 90 adolescent respondents aged 12–16 years. The instruments used were the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ), which demonstrated a reliability coefficient of 0.893 and item validity ranging from 0.340 to 0.673, and the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS), which showed an alpha reliability above 0.962 and item validity greater than 0.30. The findings revealed that most students reported a moderate level of social support (34.4%), while most of the bullying victims also fall into the moderate category (36.7%). These results indicate that although most students receive a sufficient level of social support, some still experience low levels of support, which may exacerbate the negative effects of bullying. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of strengthening social support systems within religious-based school environments as a preventive and intervention strategy for bullying victims.

Abstract

Adolescents with adverse childhood experiences (ACE) are at higher risk of developing psychological problems, including social anxiety. Social anxiety may hinder adolescents’ social and emotional development, while self-confidence is considered a protective factor that reduces the negative impact of ACE. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-confidence and social anxiety among adolescents with ACE in Kulonprogo. A quantitative method was employed with self-confidence as the independent variable and social anxiety as the dependent variable. This study employed a quantitative method with self-confidence as the independent variable and social anxiety as the dependent variable. The research instruments consisted of a self-confidence scale (α = 0.87) and the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) (α = 0.91), both of which have been adapted into Indonesian. Participants were adolescents aged 18–23 years who experienced ACE and resided in Kulonprogo. The results indicated a significant negative relationship between self-confidence and social anxiety. Higher levels of self-confidence were associated with lower social anxiety, and vice versa. The strength of the relationship was in the moderate category (r=-0,42). Furthermore, most participants demonstrated high levels of social anxiety (61%) and moderate levels of self-confidence (84%). These findings highlight the crucial role of self-confidence in mitigating social anxiety among adolescents with ACE and may serve as a reference for developing more targeted psychological interventions.

Abstract

Social media has become an important part of daily life, especially for adolescents and young adults, encompassing communication, self-expression, and identity formation. Studies in Indonesia show that social media affects psychological well-being, particularly among women. This study aims to review the literature regarding the impact of social media on psychological well-being based on gender differences. This research uses a literature study method by searching for publications between 2020 and 2025. The results show that social media affects psychological well-being. Negative impacts are related to excessive use, social comparison, and the internalization of ideal standards, while factors such as self-compassion, emotion regulation, and social support act as protective factors. The findings also show gender-based differences, indicating that women are more often associated with body dissatisfaction and men with masculinity pressure. As an intervention, this study recommends a gender-sensitive multidisciplinary approach, including digital literacy and the practice of mindfulness and self-compassion to improve psychological resilience by promoting better self-awareness and self-acceptance. This approach is expected to serve as a preventive strategy in addressing gender-based social media challenges.

Abstract

Social media plays a significant role in the dynamics of romantic relationships, including the emergence of online surveillance, which refers to the act of monitoring a partner’s activity on social media. This study aims to examine the mediating roles of investment and commitment in the relationship between adult attachment style and online surveillance among 175 young adult participants currently in dating relationships. A quantitative serial mediation approach was employed. The instruments used include the Experiences in Close Relationship–Short Form (ECR-SF), the Investment Model Scale (IMS), and the Interpersonal Electronic Surveillance Scale (IESS). The results of the serial mediation analysis showed no significant mediating role of investment and commitment in the relationship between adult attachment style and online surveillance for both anxious and avoidant attachment styles. Gender was included as covariates. However, additional analysis revealed that investment functioned as a significant single mediator in the relationship between both anxious and avoidant attachment styles and online surveillance. Commitment, on the other hand, did not serve as a significant mediator. These findings indicate that online surveillance behavior is more influenced by the level of emotional investment in the relationship.

Abstract

Adolescents from broken homes tend to experience disturbances in emotional and social development due to a lack of attachment and support from parents. Disharmonious family conditions can lead to psychological stress that leads to aggressive behavior. This study aims to examine the influence of authoritarian parenting and self-control on aggressive behavior in adolescents from broken homes in Karawang Regency. This study used a quantitative approach with a causality design. The population in this study were adolescents aged 12–18 years in Karawang Regency with a total of ± 400,000. The sampling method used was non-probability sampling with convenience sampling technique. The determination of the number of samples used the Isaac and Michael formula with a 5% error rate, requiring a minimum of 348 participants. To measure authoritarian parenting, the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) scale from Robinson was used. Self-control was measured using the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) from Tangney, and aggressive behavior was measured using the Aggression Questionnaire developed by Buss and Perry. The analysis results show a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning there is a significant influence between authoritarian parenting and self-control on aggressive behavior. The results of the determination coefficient test (R Square) show a figure of 0.708 or 70.8%. Authoritarian parenting has a greater influence of 48%, while self-control is 22.8%. The implications of this study indicate that parents and caregivers need to avoid authoritarian parenting that can trigger aggressive behavior in adolescents, as well as the importance of strengthening self-control through emotional education, counseling guidance, and positive activities in the family and school environment to form more adaptive behavior.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes in consumer behavior worldwide, including in Indonesia. E-commerce, as one of the main digital platforms, has transformed the way consumers shop, offering greater convenience, effectiveness, and personalization. This phenomenon is reflected in the increasing demand for herbal skincare products, which are becoming more popular among consumers. Along with this behavioral shift, understanding the factors that influence purchasing decisions is crucial for business development, especially in the online market. This study aims to analyze the relationship of consumer satisfaction on purchase decisions for herbal skincare products purchased online. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research population consists of consumers who purchase herbal skincare products online, with a sample of 100 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data was collected using a Likert scale to measure consumer satisfaction and purchase decisions. The results show that consumer satisfaction significantly influences purchase decisions, with most respondents falling into the medium satisfaction category. External factors such as brand loyalty and social media influence also play a role in purchase decisions. This study suggests that businesses should focus on improving consumer satisfaction through product quality and an enjoyable shopping experience, while also considering external factors such as promotions and recommendations from other consumers to enhance purchase decisions.

Abstract

Well-being in the concept of positive psychology is referred to as flourishing or PERMA, which consists of five pillars: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationship/Positive, Meaning, and Accomplishment/Achievement. By possessing these five pillars of PERMA, individuals tend to live a happier, more meaningful, and more beneficial life, develop positive relationships with others, and cultivate a positive mindset that fosters positive emotions while reducing negative ones. As a result, individuals are more likely to feel satisfied, happy, and able to live their lives to the fullest. This study aims to obtain a fit model between Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationship/Positive, Meaning, and Accomplishment/Achievement and to examine the correlations among the PERMA constructs. The research employed a quantitative method by conducting model testing using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The subjects were 325 male and female university students. The measurement instruments used in this study were the Dispositional Positive Emotion Scale (DPES) to measure positive emotions, the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) to measure meaning in life, the Life Engagement Test (LET) to assess engagement, the Positive Relationship Questionnaire (PRQ) to measure positive relationships, and the Achievement Goal Questionnaire Revised (AGQR) to measure the achievement construct. The results indicate that the PERMA model (positive emotion with engagement, meaning, and accomplishment) fits, meaning that the modified model shows no differences between the model and the data. Thus, the theorized model fits the research data. These findings show that increasing mental health literacy plays an important role in encouraging healthy behavior and strengthening family resilience. Therefore, the implications of this study can serve as a foundation for developing more targeted educational programs and public policies to build healthy and resilient families.

Abstract

The high rate of recidivism in correctional institutions in Indonesia, which indicates that the rehabilitation and guidance process for prisoners has not been entirely successful, particularly in addressing psychological aspects. This condition indicates the need for a guidance approach that pays attention to moral emotional factors such as guilt, shame, and forgiveness, which play an important role in shaping the future orientation of prisoners. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of guilt, shame, and forgiveness on the future orientation of repeat offenders in the Kediri Class IIA Correctional Institution. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 160 repeat offenders selected by purposive sampling from a total population of 235 people. The research instruments included the Offence-Related Feelings of Shame and Guilt Scale (ORSGS), Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS), and Future Orientation Scale (FOS), with data analysis using multiple linear regression. The results of this study reveal that guilt and shame (β = 0.594; p < 0.001) and forgiveness (β = 0.352; p < 0.001) have a significant effect on future orientation, both partially and simultaneously, with a total contribution of 88.1%. The implications of this study indicate the importance of strengthening moral emotions and the ability to forgive in prisoner rehabilitation programs to support psychological recovery, strengthen future orientation, and reduce recidivism rates in Indonesia.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are significantly prevalent among adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), yet limited qualitative research has explored the subjective experiences of this population. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep problems and ADHD in adults, focusing on their lived experiences and adaptive strategies. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), semi-structured interviews were conducted with 9 adults diagnosed with ADHD who reported sleep difficulties. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis to identify patterns in participants' experiences. Three main themes emerged: (1) The vicious cycle of sleep disruption and ADHD symptoms, (2) Emotional and cognitive impacts of sleep-ADHD interaction, and (3) Individual coping strategies and adaptation mechanisms. Findings revealed that sleep problems exacerbate ADHD symptoms, creating a complex interplay that affects daily functioning, emotional regulation, and quality of life. Participants developed various adaptive strategies including environmental modifications, routine establishment, and self-medication behaviors. The study provides insights into the subjective experiences of adults with ADHD-related sleep problems and highlights the need for integrated treatment approaches addressing both conditions simultaneously.
