Abstract

The study of biology offers students the opportunity to analyze environmental problems, including environmental pollution and its impact on ecosystem balance. This study aimed to develop flashcard learning media on water pollution sub-materials and to analyze their effectiveness in improving the understanding of grade X high school 1, Getasan, Semarang County Central Jawa. The research used the Research and Development (R & D) method, utilizing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). In the analysis stage, the need of flashcard use for water pollution learning was identified. As many as 47 flashcards of 6 topics were made in the design stage. The flashcard material aspect and media aspect were validated with scores of 89,4% dand 88,6% respectively in the development stage. The N-Gain score of 0,40 in the implementation stage implied medium level improvement of student learning outcomes. Finally, At the evaluation stage, it was found that teacher and student’s responses were very effective based on their responses as 84.4% and 82,6% respectively. Overall, the flashcards of environmental pollution learning were appropriate to be used for grade x high school students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of ethnoecology project-based learning on students' environmental literacy in ecosystem-related materials. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 41 seventh-grade students from junior high schools in Sukabumi Regency, including 22 students in the experimental group and 19 students in the control group. The data collected were quantitative, obtained through environmental literacy tests, attitude scale questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. The test instruments measured environmental literacy indicators used were knowledge, competence, disposition, and environmentally responsible behavior. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test through SPSS software. The results showed that the average N-Gain in the experimental class was 0.60 (medium category), higher than the control class, which was 0.33. The t-test results showed a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicated a significant difference between the two groups. The affective aspect also experienced an increase, indicated by the average score of student attitudes and behaviors being in the "good" category, and student responses to learning reaching 84% (very good category). It can be concluded that ethnoecological project-based learning rooted in local wisdom significantly improves students' environmental literacy skills comprehensively, from the cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the SDGs-oriented problem-based learning (PBL) model in improving students' scientific literacy and environmental awareness. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental. The research subjects were seventh grade SMPN 1 Gisting. consisting of classes VII A (experimental) and VII B (control), which were taken using purposive sampling technique. The experimental class was given treatment using the PBL model, while the control class used the discovery model. Data on scientific literacy skills were obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest and environmental awareness was obtained from the results of the questionnaire. Scientific literacy data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test. The results showed the Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001 <0.05. Environmental awareness also reached the “very good” category with an average score of 90.16%. The average N-gain value of the experimental class's scientific literacy skills (0.53) was higher than the control class (0.23). These findings indicate that the SDGs-oriented PBL model effectively strengthens students' scientific literacy and environmental awareness. The SDGs-oriented PBL model deserves to be prioritized in scientific learning because it has been proven to be more effective in increasing students' scientific literacy and environmental awareness.
