Abstract

Language is a way to communicate since we were born, especially for children since they were born they need to communicate what they want to the people around them. Growing and knowing many languages make them has a process of acquiring their language. In this research, the researcher wrote the observation about how a five-year-old girl acquires English words in terms of vocabulary and what kinds of English vocabulary that she acquires every day. The utterances of a five-year-old girl named Tsaqifa who is living in non-speaking English community are the data of the research. In this research, the writer is going to tell Psycholinguistics of a five-year-old girl in terms of vocabulary. This research used descriptive qualitative research method. To collect the data, the researcher used observation method and taking note method with the help of recording on the researcher’s phone. This research used observation to analyze the data by using referential identity method. The researcher found out the first about kinds of vocabularies that she acquire such as Noun 66%, Adjective 22%, Adverb 1%, Exclamation 1%, and Verb 10%. Second, on how a five-year-old girl acquires her language in terms of vocabulary such as Imitating, Watching, Listening English songs and Learning English from school.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to analyze the types of refusal expressions employed by the characters, to determine the strategies that used in each type of refusal expressions and to know how the refusal expressions is expressed in the movie entitled “The Clique”. This research is basically a conversation analysis. This research is a qualitative research. The sources of data in this research were selected script dialogs of the conversations in the movie. The conclusions are: (1) There are 20 dialogues containing refusal found in the movie entitled “The Clique” in which 12 dialogues are direct refusal and 8 dialogues are indirect refusal; (2) There are six strategies that used; (3) The characters in the movie express directly and indirectly. The characters perform the refusal directly because they want to convey the meaning of what they say explicitly. On the other hand, the characters choose to perform the refusal indirectly because they want to maintain a harmonious relationship with whom they talk, make one’s language more/less interesting, increasing the force of one’s message, and competing goals.

Abstract

RPS (Rencana Pembelajaran Semester -- Semester Learning Plan) is a document contains the framework or outline of learning plan for one semester. The RPS is used by the lecturer and for students. It is as the guideline in learning activities in order to reach the expected outcome. As there is expected outcome, thus it is designed both for lecturer and students and also for the principal, of subject. The RPS can be viewed from students side by having perception test. This perception test will perform either the RPS is synchronous with the students substantial needs by their department. Through perception, students will have notion of something, synchronicity. This research aims at (1) presenting perception of students from Broadcasting Department at Bina Sarana Informatika University on the RPS for English for Broadcasting subject; (2) viewing the influence of RPS through online learning in the Covid-19 pandemic era. This research is conducted by giving a questionnaire to students. Then, it is discussed and analyzed either by qualitative or quantitative research. Students from broadcasting semester IV are taken as an example in this research. There are 35 students was taken questionnaire. The data analysis are using the form of Spearman hypothesis test. The result shows that (1) students perception on RPS synchronousity is Synchronous; (2) There is no influence of students' perceptions of synchronization to their department through online learning. The proof shows that the value of P = 0.124 (P > 0.05) and the value of r xy = 0.294, means the relationship between students' perceptions of synchronicity to their department is not significant or weak.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to figure out the mispronouncing english vowel sounds that is mostly made by University Students. The data were from 30 students of Office-Administration Study Program Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika as the object of this research. Qualitative method is used for analyzing the recorded sounds that were produced by the students. The vowel sounds investigated in this research were sound of [ɑː], [ɜː], and [ᴐ:]. The researchers gave 7 words each that contain the vowel sounds. The result indicated that mostly students produced the mispronuncing sound [ᴐ:]. They often missed or slip between [ɑː] and [ᴐ:]. This happened when the words tested were unfamiliar for the students.

Abstract

This study focuses on the use of translation techniques used by one of the social media Facebook, which is one of the media that facilitates automatic translation into various languages, so that there are no more obstacles in communicating with anyone in the world. Translation for Post is one of the facilities provided by Facebook in translation. Even so, Translation for Post is also entered into machine translation, which in terms of translation quality has shortcomings and the resulting equivalence. Likewise with Translation for Post, so researchers are interested in analyzing the use of translation techniques used by Facebook. The object of this research is a post on social media facebook using descriptive qualitative research techniques, with purposive sampling method. The results obtained, the dominance of the use of literal translation techniques has an impact on the quality of the resulting translation. Often in machine translation, the use of literal translation techniques makes the quality of the resulting translation make the translation feel less and grateful. So the choice of technique will also determine the quality of the resulting translation.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the methods employed in Easy A movie. This research is proposed by Culpeper (2011) theory. The researchers used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze the impoliteness strategies in this study. The subject of the research is “Easy A” movie. In this study, data was gathered by using an observational methodology and non-participatory technique. Next, the data was analyzed with the pragmatic identification method. During this study, the researchers identified 16 utterances. As a result of their studies, the researchers discovered five types of impoliteness, including (4) bald on record impoliteness, (5) positive impoliteness, (4) negative impoliteness, (2) mock politeness or sarcasm, and (1) withhold politeness. The most common strategy used by the Easy A movie was positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the maxim that violated in the movie “The Lion in Winter”. The characters in the movie were chosen as the data source that has a high probability of violating the maxims. This study used Grice (1989) theory to analyse the types of maxim violation. The method in this research applied the descriptive qualitative method from Creswell (2009). Then, the researchers used the non-participatory technique because the researchers did not include in the event. The pragmatic identity from Sudaryanto (2015) was included to analyse the data. In addition, this research found four type of maxim violation from the data source. Those were 7 data in maxim of quantity, 3 data in maxim of quality, 4 data in maxim of relation and 4 data in maxim of manner.

Abstract

This study identified the directive acts in the Frozen1 movie. In this study, the research design was a qualitative approach in which the researchers expressed the outcome in words and provided an explanation of the result. The researchers looked at a variety of directive speech acts. The data were analyzed by the theory from Kreidler (1998). There were some types of directive, command, request, order, and suggest. This research existed in the movie “Frozen 1”. The researchers found 15 utterances that were uttered by the characters in the movie. The researchers found 5 utterances that expressed the commanding speech. Second, the researchers found 4 utterances that expressed the requesting speech. Third, the researchers found 4 utterances that expressed the suggesting speech and for the last, the researchers found 2 utterances. From the utterances that were found in the movie, the dominant type was commanding act.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the types of commissive act in Tangled Movie. In this research, the researchers used Kreidler’s theory of speech act. The researchers used qualitative method to analyzed commissive act in this research. The object of this research was commissive act and the subject was Tangled Movie. This research contained utterances from the movie’s conversation dialogue. Every utterance from the movie had different types commissive act. In collecting the data, this research used non-participatory observation method. The researchers found 15 data in the utterances in Tangled Movie that indicates the use of commissive act. Those data consist of five types of commissive illocutionary act. The first type found by the researcher contained three utterances that expressed refusing act. The second type found by the researcher contained four utterances that expressed promising act. The third type found by the researcher contained four utterances that expressed offering act. Next, the fourth type found by the researchers contained three utterances that expressed vowing act. The last type that found by the researchers contained one utterance that expressed threatening act. The most type that found from the utterance was promising and offering act.

Abstract

Nowadays, internet is accessible for everyone. The use of internet in Indonesia in 2021 increases significantly compare with with 2019 survey. 202.6 million internet users in Indonesia are detected, and 80% of them are teenagers. Covid-19 pandemic is also one of the reason why mobile access penetration significantly increased. Ironically, the other survey from Statista in 2020 discovered the fact that they use the internet to access social media, especially whatsapp. It may a serious threat for our youngsters. However, this research believe that this is an opportunity to introduce a creative media to catch students’ attention, especially for language teaching and learning. For further, Lasvita, which is an android-based learning application is introduced. This research investigated and analyzed how it can attract the students’ attention, so that they will not depend too much on social media and more productive when they access internet. This research assumes that by having an adequate knowledge, an android-based learning will be no longer become a threat. On the other hand, it will be a vital media to fulfill new need in language learning during during pandemic.
