Abstract

This manuscript considers multi-criteria based multi-objective approach with technical, economic and environmental indices (TEE) for optimal placement and sizing of distributed generation (DG) units in the distribution network. Technical criteria include indices of active energy losses, voltage deviation; whereas economic criteria include the index of cost of DG installation, and environmental index considers the various greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from generating unit’s and biomass DG. Combined sensitivity analysis is applied for sorting the candidate nodes for DG placement and reducing the search space. Multi-criteria decision-making among TEE factors are addressed using a scientific approach named Analytic Hierarchy process (AHP) approach. The impact of prioritized solutions is analyzed in terms of three scenarios formed using AHP in the form of TEE criterion. The developed formulation is tested on IEEE 33-bus bus radial distribution system and is solved using hybrid optimization approach (hybrid GA-PSO) and AHP based scenarios performed better than base case scenario (non-prioritized scenario).

Abstract

The work presented in this article contributes to the study of a standalone photovoltaic (PV) system with battery storage by creating an electronic board that allows for the recovery of the battery's capacity using pulse technology that uses high-energy pulses from the PV panel to break down and remove the sulfation buildup, which is a contributing factor in the failure of most lead-acid batteries. Different methods or treatments can be used to lessen the impact of sulfation or even get rid of it and achieve battery rejuvenation. Battery sulfation is a process in which sulfate crystals form on the plates of a lead-acid battery, impeding its ability to retain a charge, and decreasing the battery’s overall effectiveness. This process can happen due to various reasons, such as charging for a shorter time than required, charging for a longer period of time than required, or even not charging it for quite some time. Sulfation affects a battery’s lifespan and comes with adverse effects on its performance, though it can be prevented.

Abstract

Recently, the construction of high-rise buildings has been increasing significantly along with economic growth. Therefore, electricity is also going up due to the energy demand of the building. The air conditioning system is the enormous energy consumption in high buildings. The green building concept has been introduced regarding the energy efficiency of a high-rise building. This study investigated the energy consumption in a high building (47 floors) using the load optimization method for the chiller system. The load optimization was conducted by configuring five chillers systems consisting of integral compressors, cooling towers, and pumps. This study obtained the decreasing energy consumption by the chiller's operation load sequencing based on 24-hour data optimization. Optimized chiller performance satisfied the green building standards. However, load optimization on high buildings is highly recommended as an effective way to achieve green building status. Further research is recommended for implementing such optimization at other facilities, such as industrial plants, hospitals, airports, and manufacturing plants.

Abstract

The need for alternative energy sources becomes extensive because of the escalating cost of fossil fuels. The goal of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of combining photovoltaics and agriculture for better yield. Photovoltaic (PV) solar plants will compete with farms for available land. In this study, the methodologies are discussed how it is possible to maximize land utilization by placing solar arrays and food crops on the same plot of land. The term is proposed "agrivoltaic system" to describe this setup. Conventional solutions (discrimination of agricultural and energy extracting) were compared to two agrivoltaic schemes with varying density of PV arrays using land equivalent ratios. We utilized a crop model to simulate the amount of sunlight reaching the crop from an array of solar panels and to speculate on the yield reduction that would result from the partial shading. These early findings suggest that agrivoltaic systems may be highly effective; the two densities of PV panels were anticipated to boost worldwide land production by 73%. One possible explanation for the success of these hybrid systems is the presence of facilitation mechanisms analogous to those seen in agroforestry. At the end it is suggested that in places where arable land is rare, new solar plants may find it beneficial to produce both power and food.

Abstract

The rapid adoption of electric vehicle (EV) motors has recently raised numerous issues including high expensive, complex maintenance, and resonance problems. Some of the most effective and most thoroughly investigated EV motors are 3ф induction motors and DC motors. Brushless DC (BLDC) motors for EVs are a more advanced version of the solution used in developing nations. Rising time, steady state, transient, overshoot, settling time and other characteristics of the EV based BLDC motor are difficult to control. A loss of control leads to system instability and reduces the components' lifespan. Thereby, in this work, a grid incorporated PV fed EV based BLDC motor is proposed using DC-DC converter along with hybrid optimized PI controller. An innovative high gain Luo converter has been developed with the goal to deal with the fluctuating behavior of PV systems and it provides the impressive advantages of a high conversion range, reduced voltage stress and outstanding efficiency. To considerably improve the performance of the suggested converter, the reliable hybrid particle swarm-spotted hyena optimized (PS-SHO) proportional integral (PI) controller is invented for controlling the BLDC motor's speed. The grid supplies electricity to the BLDC motor when the PV-based power source isn't accessible. The simulation used to determine the efficacy of the proposed BLDC motor system in MATLAB has confirmed that the methodology provides increased efficacy with a highest efficiency of 97.3% and a lower total harmonic distortion (THD) of 2.02%.

Abstract

Easy access to distributed generation (DG) technology is promoting the utilization of single-phase DGs for residential purposes. Surplus energy generated by household DGs can be shared or sold to other communities through existing networks. However, the interconnection of single-phase DGs from residential generators to the distribution network requires careful handling to secure the reliability and quality of the electric power system. This paper focuses on the optimal placement of single-phase multi-type DGs on unbalanced distribution systems that are connected to nonlinear loads. The objective of this study is to minimize the power losses and voltage unbalances in the distribution networks. To verify the efficacy of this method in reducing voltage unbalances and harmonics, an optimization approach is also presented using three-phase DG. Optimal placement of DG is performed on a modified Kaliasin distribution system using an adaptive real coded genetic algorithm (ARC-GA). Simulation results demonstrate that the installation of single-phase DGs is highly effective in reducing power losses and voltage unbalances in the distribution networks.

Abstract

One of the biggest challenges of electric vehicle (EV) users has been predicting the amount of driving time their vehicles will have on one battery charge. Planning a trip and reducing range anxiety depends on an accurate range estimate. This study aims to anticipate the EV driving range using machine learning methods. In this research, several regression models for predicting EV driving range will be developed and compared. A real-world dataset comprising various factors affecting EV range, such as power, trip distance, energy consumption, driving style, and environmental factors, is used for analysis. The dataset is preprocessed using exploratory data analysis methods to manage missing values, outliers, and categorical variables. The findings of this study contribute to the expanding area of EV range prediction and provide EV buyers, producers, and regulators with insightful information. The user experience can be improved, EV adoption can be boosted, and effective charging infrastructure design is made possible with accurate range prediction. The study also highlights the importance of model selection and data pretreatment in making accurate predictions.

Abstract

Over the past decade, much research and development has gone into the use of electric power converters, and the trend is upward. Inverters are employed when converting DC voltage to AC voltage. Typically, inverters perform functions such as voltage boost (to compensate for voltage decrease) or both voltage buck and boost. Other issues to consider include the structure of the inverter topology and the control method. Based on the problem, a study was conducted on a buck-boost inverter that integrates an H-bridge inverter and a single ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC). The H-bridge inverter is widely recognized for its simplicity of operation and always runs in buck mode. The SEPIC converter always runs in buck-boost mode. Since it is unipolar, it can operate as a buck or boost when combined with SEPIC AC-AC. The output voltage is significantly improved because it has several filters to enhance the signal. This hybrid topology is controlled by sinusoidal pulse width modulation, resulting in a straightforward control technique with outstanding performance. The H-bridge inverter operates in index modulation 0-100%, and the SEPIC converter more than 50%. In the lab, a computational and implementation procedure is used to test the effectiveness of the hybrid topology and control method under consideration. The test results show that the hybrid architecture can function within the desired parameters. The proposed inverter has 4.531% THD_V, 4.531% THD_I, and 97.85% efficiency under simulation.
