Abstract

A cigarette contains nicotine substance that can cause smokers to become dependent on nicotine. Smokers who are already addicted will experience withdrawal syndrome. The earlier age people smoke at, the higher level of dependence they have. The adverse effect of nicotine dependence is that smokers will find it difficult to stop smoking. This study aimed to investigate the experiences of adolescent smokers who are dependent on nicotine. This was a qualitative study conducted with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through an in-depth interview with five informants who were selected through purposive sampling technique. Triangulation was employed to enhance the credibility of the study. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological approach. This study resulted in four main themes, namely: age to start smoking; the causes of smoking; perceptions of smoking; experience of smoking cessation. Conclusion that can be drawn for this study was smoking abstinence led to anxiety, decreased concentration and craving to cigarette. The smokers need to educate about the nicotine withdrawal symptoms that they can anticipate it when symptoms appeared.

Abstract

The goal of therapy following treatment failure is to achieve and maintain Virological suppressions  via the three 90 target by the year 2020 to accelerate reaching epidemic control of those on Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) shall be virally suppressed. Therefore, the aimed of this study to assess Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV) on High  viral load suppression and associated factors among client on ART in Asella Teaching and Referral Hospital, Arsi Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia, 2019. Institution based cross sectional study was conducted by chart review. A total of 430  study subjects were selected with complete information included in the analysis. The collected data was entered in to Epi info Version 7 software then cleaned data was exported to SPSS version 21 for analysis. All explanatory variables with at p-value<0.2 in the crude analysis were included in the multiple logistic regression analysis with 95% CI computed. A P-value<0.05 has considered statistically significant. A total of 430 people living with HIV enrolled in this study was, 356 (82.8%) had not suppressed viral load with the corresponding 95% confidence interval was (79.2, 86.3). People living with HIV enrolled with '''baseline Hgb < 10g/dl [AOR=1.834,95% CI(1.407,2.710)], patients hav.ing poor adherence [AOR=15.204, 95%CI (8.087, 28.58)] and patients enrolled to care who use substance [ AOR=1.6,95%CI (1.021,3.118)] were at risky to get high viral load. The findings of this study strongly indicated that on treatment viral load suppression rates 17.2% patients had suppressed viral load < 1000 RNAcopies/mL. This proportion falls short of the UNAIDS’ 90% target for on treatment viral suppression. Poor adherence, Hgb level < 10g/dl and substance use were factors that decreases rates of viral load suppression. Therefore, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV) treatment program me can maintain and potentially improve virological treatment outcomes by improving access to targeted viral load testing.

Abstract

Knowledge of diabetes mellitus (DM) management can improve adherence in medication-taking behavior. Counseling by pharmacists is believed to contribute to its better acquisition. Nevertheless, many counseling and reminder media are still currently developed. This study aimed to identify the effects of brief counseling-5A modification and a motivational reminder through short message services (SMS), designed with a religious approach, on medication-taking behavior and adherence among DM outpatients at Jetis 1 Community Health Center, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were collected prospectively from May to August, 2018. There were 72 patients who met the inclusion criteria divided evenly into two groups, the treatment group and the control group. The data collected by interviews using questionnaires on medication-taking behavior and the medication adherence rating scale (MARS) and were statistically assessed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that brief counseling-5A, combined with religious motivational SMS, raised the stage of behavior change in DM patients. There were increases (Δ) in medication-taking behavior by 2.76±1.59 and patient compliance by 3.44±3.45. In conclusion, brief counseling-5A by pharmacists and motivational text reminders can improve the medication-taking behavior and compliance of DM patients with the therapy.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) shifts the characteristics of municipal waste. This paper aims to provide an overview of trends, impacts, and management during the COVID-19 pandemic globally. The increase in the generation of plastic waste and infectious waste is a new challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was found that the emergence of plastic waste due to the consumption of food delivery becomes an issue in several countries. Despite the increment of plastic waste generation, the mass layoffs contributed to the decrease in the total urban waste generation in general. In addition to plastic waste, a surge of infectious waste from health facilities and household waste originating from residents infected with the SARS-COV-2 virus was observed. This infectious wastewater potentially leads to environmental disturbances to the rivers and oceans. To tackle global environmental concerns, sustainable waste management is required especially in the development of biodegradable personal protective equipment.

Abstract

Oxidative stress and inflammatory reactions are the pathological mechanisms for most degenerative diseases. The black cumin seed oil (BCSO) contains compounds that can act as antioxidants and immunomodulators. Consuming BCSO is thought to improve antioxidant and immunomodulatory parameters in obese people. This study investigated the effect of BCSO consumption on antioxidant and immunomodulatory activity in healthy volunteers. We conducted a quasi-experimental study on 12 healthy volunteers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. We asked the volunteers to consume BCSO for twenty days. We measured blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), malondialdehyde (MDA) level, Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamic pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) activity, CD4Th, and IFN-γ expression before and after consuming BCSO. We carried out the average difference test of the parameters before and after consumption of BCSO by dependent t-test. The results showed that 3x1 BCSO preparation for 20 days reduced MDA levels and increased CDTh and IFN-γ. Consuming BCSO for 20 days potentially improve the adaptive cellular immune response parameters.

Abstract

The Government of Indonesian implemented maternal health service programs to minimize at-home childbirth services and increase mothers' utilization of its services. There is not enough evidence these policies are effectively decreasing the maternal mortality rate. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the predictors of each specific childbirth services in Indonesia. This study used the secondary dataset of the 2012 Indonesian demographic data survey (IDHS). The sample was 17,769 women ages 15 to 49 years old. We performed logistic regression for the multivariate case to identify the predictors of childbirth service. Geographical, education, and economic condition significantly predict childbirth services. Women who are not residents tend to use a community-based facility than institutionalized health. Women with higher parity, inadequate knowledge on pregnancy danger signs, lower antenatal care visits, and never had any discussion with their husbands about the planned place of giving birth tend to prefer giving birth at home than health facilities. Women's decision to use a safe childbirth service is hindered by demanding access to reach institutionalized healthcare. Our findings highlighted the importance of women empowerment to enable women to utilize safe labor in a health facility.

Abstract

The child and adolescent mindfulness measurement (CAMM) is a self-report instrument assessing the ability of mindfulness in adolescents. This assessment is widely used in measuring the effectiveness of mindfulness intervention in children and adolescents. This study aimed to validate the translated Bahasa version of the CAMM. We used international test commission (ITC) guidelines with six steps in the adaptation process. After forward-backward transltion procedure, the participants were 207 adolescents aged 10-17 years (M=15, 00, SD=1.890; girls=130, boys=77). Internal consistency and factor analysis are used to measure the reliability and validity. Investigation of internal consistency Cronbach Coefficient Alpha yielded satisfactory results (.767). Results from confirmatory factor analysis supported the original one-factor model with 2(df=34, p=.088), goodness of fit index (GFI)=.985, comparative fit index (CFI)=.974.). In sum, the Bahasa version of the CAMM can be successfully used for assessment and evaluation of the effect of mindfulness intervention in the Bahasa adolescents' population.

Abstract

Departing from the mandatory vaccination had been debated and received a lot of rejection which has caused intense emotions. In this study, the authors tried to evaluate the mandatory regulation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination from a human rights and utilitarianism perspective. By conducting normative research method, this study revealed that indeed the obligation that tends to be coercive for COVID-19 vaccination seems to violate individual human rights which each individual has the right to decide for themselves whether they want to participate in the program or not without coercion. However, mandatory vaccination is still justified, from a human rights perspective, to protect other people's rights not to be infected with infectious diseases. This is also in line with a utilitarian perspective that departs from the argument that vaccines provide a myriad of benefits for many people in the midst of a pandemic, therefore to create benefits for the majority of society, the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination is something that is needed. Even if necessary, both sanctions and punishments can be justified in utilitarianism to achieve the greatest utility for the society.

Abstract

This study aimed to conduct a psychometric evaluation of the Indonesian version of the Communities Advancing Resilience Toolkit Assessment Survey (CART-AS) instrument with validity and reliability testing. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 280 respondents. The translation was done using the Beaton method. The psychometric test process was conducted by testing the construct validity and reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) values indicated that the model fits the previous model with the Chi-square/df=1.37 conformity indicator; comparative fit index (CFI)=0.99; goodness of fit index (GFI)=0.90; root mean square of approximation (RMSEA)=0.03; and standardized root mean square residual (SRMR)=0.03. In the CFA measurement, the convergent validity value or the loading factor value of each indicator was also found in the range of 0.55-0.99. The average variance extracted (AVE) values on the five constructs of the CART-AS instrument show values in the range of 0.55-0.98. The results of the reliability test showed the Cronbach alpha value of 0.94. The Indonesian version of the CART-AS instrument is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the resilience of disaster-affected communities in Indonesian culture.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which originated from China, went global within weeks. At the time of writing, almost 300 million people around the world have been infected by this potent and fast-spreading disease, which in many cases has paralysed economies and normal daily activities. University students are among the people that have been badly affected by the pandemic, as the movement control order (MCO) has resulted in university closure. Hence, many students are unable to proceed with their regular studies and have to be extra vigilant in dealing with the pandemic. During the MCO period, they rely heavily on media for guidance and information. This study was conducted to examine media exposure, attitude, anxiety, and practices towards COVID-19 amongst the students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Perak, Malaysia. A quantitative research design was used to achieve the research objective. A total of 505 respondents answered an online survey and the findings revealed that respondents were highly dependent on various media for updated information about the pandemic, with the majority of them anxious about their safety. These findings are useful for higher education institutions in developing a better learning environment for students and understand the impact of the pandemic on students.
