Abstract

This study focuses on the phenomenon of the fandom subculture, namely the behavior of members of the Surabaya Army (a group of fans of the K-Pop BTS group based in Surabaya), especially regarding loyalty to their idol group. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, in which the researcher allows BTS fans to actively interpret their loyalty through their intersubjective, namely their experience of being a fan. The data collection technique was carried out through in-depth interviews to obtain the meaning of loyalty that was told by the Surabaya Army from their own point of view. The results of this study indicate that loyalty to an idol is interpreted as an obligation that must be done sincerely in return for the struggle of his idol. Information technology has also made the relationship between Army Surabaya and its idol transcend real life, which can be seen from the fact that the idol is considered a virtual lover or husband. They have developed a special bond or relationship with their idol group that only themselves can feel. The results also showed that the Surabaya Army loyalty to BTS had reached a stage called The Marriage.

Abstract

The development of increasingly sophisticated communication technology is a challenge for political parties in communication. Social media offers benefits for political parties to communicate political to the wider public. This research is to see the use of social media as political communication by DPW PSI Jakarta. This research uses a case study with observation and interviews with the social media admin of DPW PSI Jakarta and the Chairman of DPW PSI Jakarta. The results of this study indicate that the use of social media as political communication by the DPW PSI Jakarta is very helpful in the process of political communication such as influencing the public, absorbing aspirations, two-way communication and clearer and more effective communication messages.

Abstract

The development of new media technology presents social media, especially Instagram, to share information and fulfill the needs of friendship among millennial teenagers. The trend of Instagram increased after Facebook was chosen by millennial teenagers to increase friendships in cyberspace, through photo uploads, Story Archives, Live Videos, Explore, and Highlights. This study analyzes the effectiveness of Instagram's features in increasing teenage friendship in the digital era. The research method used quantitative descriptive through a survey category among millennial adolescents. The technique of withdrawing informants using non-probability sampling uses proportional sampling. Determination of the sample using Isaac and Michael, the error rate of 5% was chosen by 67 respondents. Data collection techniques through questionnaires and literature study that are relevant to the research. The results showed that the effectiveness of Instagram's features in increasing teenage friendship in the digital era was dominant in the Close Friends feature as much as 61.2%. The comparison with other Instagram features, such as Story Archive, Explore, Live Video, and Highlights is minimal, increasing the effectiveness of friendships among teenagers. The Close Friends feature was chosen for reasons of self-disclosure and the convenience of uploading Instagram Stories. The level of openness in the category is high because of the proximity factor to choose and share uploads on this feature. The Close Friends feature is more privacy for Instagram users because of the freedom to choose friends and upload uploads based on their wishes.

Abstract

The development of internet brings out the ability of users to create and share their own contents. This phenomenon is commonly referred as user-generated content. The presence of new technology provides an opportunity for users to do various activities online such as creating blogs, networking through SNS, participating in virtual games, as well as gathering information from the internet. One form of information gathering activities is the usage of question and answer platform. In the perspective of Social Construction of Technology Theory, technological artifact development is constructed by relevant social groups. This research aims to know the interpretative flexibility of Q&A platform users as relevant social group, and the process of information construction in the platform. Through qualitative approach, this research describes the interpretative flexibility of Q&A platform users’. Informants were chosen purposively. This research suggests that users as a relevant social group demonstrates interpretative flexibility to describe Q&A platform as an artifact. Information construction happens within the Q&A practice and reflects the characteristic of user-generated content in Web 2.0.

Abstract

The digital native generation is now exist in higher education as university students with their own identity or self-concept that has been formed with technology exposure since they born to the world. Undoubtedly, This condition present a gap between educators and students where each identity is formed according to their respective times. The purpose of this study is to understand the identity of the digital native generation as a basis for communicating with this group in the context of educational communication. It was conducted with library and Journals research approach related to Digital Native since the beginning of the term is used until its development to seek track record from the term of digital native utilization, critic and how they exist in higher education based on identity theory. Identity theory is used in this research by consideration that identity as communication product. The results show that the self-concept of the digital native generation is different from the previous generation, but this needs to be adjusted to the conditions of geographic or regional backgrounds which in fact have different technological exposure. The need for teachers' awareness that there is a new identity that is now present in the world of higher education with its identity. Knowing the digital native generation will help find strategies in appropriate learning communication in the delivery of teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the representation of patriotism in the film Soegija. The research question posed is how the representation of patrotism in the film of Soegija. The method of this research is qualitative with John Fiske semiotics analysis. His research subject is Soegija film. Data collection was obtained through observation, using primary and secondary data collection techniques. The data obtained directly from the research object is the film Soegija. The results showed that the representation of Patriotism from the film Soegija by using the code reality, representation and ideology, through the scene of conversation, technical drawing and location of the filing. The film reveals that the characteristic of patriotism places the unity of the nation and the state above personal and group interests, namely Soegija who seeks ways to restore conditions to good condition, by carrying out orders to each region to form regional leaders to overcome the chaos that occurs. Soegija really has a religious code as the leader of the Catholic community, strong in defending the church where sanctified by the Catholic community. Soegija considers the people who suffer more and need food more than the leader. If the people are full let the last leaders feel full. And let it be if the people are hungry, the first leader feels hungry. Soegija felt as a good Catholic, should also be a good patriot and love each other. Soegija attaches importance to the common interests, especially the interests of the people, so that they can live better. The conclusion of the research is The Films "Soegija" contains Soegija, who fought for Indonesia's independence by prioritizing the interests of the majority, recalled that he was a Catholic religious leader who was a minority in Indonesia. Soegija showed himself as the leader of the nation, not the leader of Catholicism.

Abstract

Fundraising through digital technology, also known as crowdfunding is an easier, faster and more accurate alternative to donating for modern society. People who use mobile technology are able to always be connected to the internet to carry out various online activities from anywhere, including for fundraising activities. Apart from helping fellow human beings, donating activities can also be carried out as a form of program or activity to care for the environment and to improve the quality of air, land and water. One of them is a crowdfunding activity which is a form of concern from Grab Indonesia to improve air quality by inviting the public and users of Grab services to reduce their carbon footprint through the Carbon Offsetting campaign facilitated by WRI Indonesia and BenihBaik.com. One of the communication media used is the video advertisement “Kurangi Jejak Karbon #LangkahHijau Dengan Menanam Pohon - BenihBaik.com x Grab Indonesia x WRI” on YouTube social media. This article is compiled with a constructivist paradigm with the aim of carrying out a systematic analysis of the meaning contained in video advertisements through the Visual Analysis method by Gillian Rose supported by ten advertising analysis instruments and is based on Erwin Panofsky's Iconography theory. The results of this study indicate that there is a sense of awakening that people's daily lives have the power to destroy the Earth and the environment, but at the same time there are efforts to heal the Earth back into beauty. Abstract

Communication patterns between teachers and students were previously limited to classrooms. Harmony of communication between teachers and students is something that must be considered in order for learning activities to be more maximal and the objectives of learning can be achieved. The dissemination of learning information during this time often encounters obstacles due to limited communication space. The limitations of communication space make the dissemination of information ineffective and often miss communication. However, nowadays many communication technologies are designed to facilitate the dissemination of information. One of the technology products that people are interested in is the internet. Social media in this digital age can be easily accessed by the public through their smartphones by downloading the mobile application anytime and anywhere. But it turns out that there is a change in communication patterns between teachers and students with the use of digital media. The distance and pattern of formal communication becomes changed with the existence of this digital media. This study uses theories and concepts related to digital media, communication patterns of teachers and students using qualitative methods. The research approach uses qualitative descriptive. The object of this study is the pattern of communication between teachers and students at SMK PGRI Prohibition in using digital communication media. The objectives of this are explained, namely: (1) Found and identified the role of digital media in communication patterns between teachers and students (2) Obtained forms of courtesy deviations due to communication using digital media (3) obtained communication patterns between teachers and students in conversations through WhatsApp group (4) National Publications or International publications (5) Publications in national and international journals (6) Can draft textbooks with ISBN.

Abstract

Information about COVID-19 became an urgency for every individuals in this pandemic situation. Unfortunately, not all of the information were told in the appropriate communication strategy, it raised some unwanted impacts, such as fear and anger. Pace, Paterson, and Burnett, stated that communication strategy has three main purposes. This paper tried to dig up and describe the communication strategy of Salatiga City Government in their effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Salatiga. The results are first, the informations about COVID-19 are delivered with video, poster, and others. Second, the strategy used gave impacts on changes in affective, cognitive and behavior. Third, this strategy could be made in a communication strategy model which emphasized in the source credibility, clarity of content, and interesting medias. The research revealed that this strategy hadn’t built a full awareness of the society, one of the causes was the lack of even information delivered to the Salatiga society. Therefore, Salatiga City Government’s communication strategy could be improved in order to be an effective communication strategy.

Abstract

Distance Learning (PJJ) is a form of social distancing that is carried out so that every student has the right to continue to study during the Covid-19 pandemic. Distance Learning (PJJ) provides higher education services to community groups who cannot attend face-to-face education, and expands access and facilitates higher education services in learning. The learning system carried out by students and teachers through learning media by utilizing information technology. The purpose of this study was to describe the use of information technology as a medium of learning by teachers and to find out the state of technology available in schools as a means of supporting distance learning. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out by studying literature and interviewing four resource persons from state elementary school teachers, junior high schools, and high schools located in the city of Tulungagung, East Java. The collaboration of students, teachers, schools, parents, and the government determines the success of PJJ, especially for the availability of learning support tools and internet access. Teachers adapt and are required to innovate in utilizing technology. There is a change in the use of technology for the sustainability of education in Indonesia.
