Abstract

The existence of higher education in this era of technological disruption causes the practice of higher education to change fundamentally. In the past, higher education was carried out mostly face-to-face or face-to-face, now with the help of technological disruption, the educational process no longer needs to be face-to-face but online. Therefore distance education is directed to be the education of choice in the face of the Industrial revolution 4.0. The Universitas Terbuka as a pioneer of distance learning or education, which from the beginning was founded has implemented a distance learning system. The Universitas Terbuka needs to introduce and interest the public about an education system that is different from the usual one. Here the role of UPBJJ UT as part of the Universitas Terbuka becomes very important. UPBJJ-UT is required to design a promotion plan and create creative strategies in order to attract public interest so as to increase the number of students. Therefore, it is very important to explore in depth various interesting promotional strategies from various UPBJJ-UT in Indonesia. Based on the results of research using a qualitative approach, namely the interview method combined with the AISAS promotion model and the promotion mix, it was found a new promotional design that can be an example and can be applied in all agencies that implement distance education to attract and increase public interest (number of students).

Abstract

A mental health issue that has been of concern to the public in recent years is bipolar mental disorder. The disorder has an impact on increasing mortality rates, especially death by suicide. One of the Indonesian movies that raised the theme of bipolar mental disorder is the movie Ku Kira Kau Rumah. This research aims to find out how the audience perceives the content of the message, especially regarding Bipolar mental disorder in the movie Ku Kira Kau Rumah. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the method of reception analysis by Stuart Hall based on three categories namely Dominant Hegemonic Position, Negotiate Position and Oppositional Position using primary data sources as the main source. The data collection techniques used were interviews with eight informants and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model including data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and the data validation technique is source triangulation. Based on the results of the research data analysis, it was concluded that two informants were in the dominant hegemonic position, meaning that the two informants approved the message conveyed. Then three informants are in a positive negotiated position, meaning that the informant tends to agree with the message conveyed in the film and the last three informants are in an oppositional position, which means that the informant who is in the positive position does not agree with the message conveyed in the film.

Abstract

This study examines the collaboration between Laleilmanino and JKT48 in the song "Berani Bersuara," which was released on May 27, 2022, as part of a digital literacy campaign by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) and the National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD) Siberkreasi. The song aims to educate young people about communication ethics on social media. In the context of globalization and technological development, cyberculture and social media have become integral parts of social and political interaction, allowing for widespread dissemination of information and expression, while also presenting challenges such as hoaxes and unethical behavior. Using Wilhelm Dilthey's hermeneutic approach and cultural studies, this research analyzes how the lyrics of "Berani Bersuara" represent social critique against the unwise use of social media. Secondary data from various sources were used to support this analysis. The findings indicate that the song advocates for wise and responsible communication in the digital world, aligning with the government's digital literacy program. The song also serves as a medium to convey social criticism, encouraging awareness and positive changes in social media users' behavior. This study affirms that pop music can be an effective tool for conveying social messages and supporting digital literacy campaigns, demonstrating the power of pop culture in influencing the views and behavior of young people in the modern era. Keywords: Cultural Studies, Hermeneutics, Digital literacy, Communication ethics, Cyberculture, Social critique.

Abstract

This article examines how global media plays a role in Afghan women’s struggle for gender equality, employing an intersectionality approach and Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. Since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, women's rights in the country have faced severe restrictions, including bans on women's education and limitations on mobility. The article focuses on how these restrictions exacerbate gender inequality and create additional challenges for women, especially those from ethnic minority groups such as the Hazara. On the other hand, global media often portrays Afghan women as victims, despite notable efforts of protest and resilience by the women themselves. Using Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory, this article explores how Afghan women’s experiences are shaped by various intersecting factors of oppression, such as gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status. Furthermore, Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis is applied to understand how global media constructs narratives about Afghan women and how these narratives contribute to the international discourse on women’s rights in Afghanistan. The findings of this study highlight the importance of global solidarity, the role of social media, and the involvement of the Afghan diaspora in raising issues about women in Afghanistan, although significant challenges to achieving concrete change remain.
