Abstract

Higher education in Indonesia, especially at the University of Muhammadiyah Lampung (UMLampung), is a multicultural system, where students come from various cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. This diversity poses challenges in interpersonal communication between lecturers and students, especially in the context of the role of Academic Supervisors (PAs). Effective interpersonal communication is an important element in creating a harmonious learning environment and supporting academic success. This study aims to explore the role of PA lecturers in optimizing interpersonal communication to support the completion of student studies of the Communication Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UMLampung. The approach used is qualitative descriptive research with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the role of PA lecturers in interpersonal communication is very important, both in providing appropriate academic information, directing students in completing assignments, and helping to overcome problems faced by students. PA lecturers who are able to communicate effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, can create supportive relationships, which contribute to the timely completion of studies. However, there are still obstacles such as time constraints and access difficulties between PA lecturers and students that need to be considered to optimize this role. This study suggests the importance of improving PA lecturers' interpersonal communication skills in order to create a more inclusive learning atmosphere and support the achievement of students' academic goals.

Abstract

This study aims to develop podcast-based teaching materials as an innovative digital learning media for students of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program (KPI) at IAIN Metro. The background of this study is based on the low utilization of interactive digital media in the learning process and the absence of the use of podcasts as a means of two-way communication between lecturers and students. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a development model that includes the planning stage, product design, design validation, product revision, field trials, as well as dissemination and implementation. The product developed is educational podcast content resulting from a collaboration between Shawtuna FM Radio and the Spotify application, with learning themes from several courses such as Introduction to Communication Science, Political Communication, Journalistic Photography, and Master of Ceremony. The validation results showed a very high level of feasibility, with a percentage of assessments from material experts of 86.6% and media experts of 89.8%. Field trials on 37 students resulted in an average feasibility of 87.7% with the category of "very feasible". Podcasts have proven effective in increasing students' understanding of lecture materials and creating interactive, flexible, and engaging learning. This research confirms that podcasts can be an innovative alternative to support the digitalization of learning in Islamic religious universities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of TikTok @evelynhutani in disseminating multicultural da'wah among Generation Z using James Banks’ multicultural education perspective. This research employs a qualitative approach with content analysis as its primary method. The data were collected through observation and documentation of two TikTok videos by Evelyn Hutani that showcase interfaith interactions within the context of religious diversity. The analysis was conducted using thematic analysis based on James Banks’ dimensions of multicultural education, including content integration, prejudice reduction, and equity pedagogy. The focus of this study is to explore how messages of tolerance and respect for religious differences are constructed and communicated in the selected content. The findings are expected to provide insights into how social media, particularly TikTok, can serve as an inclusive and relevant medium of da'wah for strengthening multicultural awareness among Generation Z in the digital age.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article comprehensively examines the concepts, theories, and practices of developing public communication strategies in Islamic broadcasting in the digital era. The study begins with an explanation of the theoretical foundations of public communication according to leading scholars, the basic concepts of Islamic broadcasting, and the integration of both within the context of contemporary digital media. Using a systematic literature review method focusing on scholarly publications from 2020–2025, this article analyzes the paradigm shift in da’wah communication from conventional to digital models and identifies effective strategies for reaching modern audiences. The findings indicate that public communication in Islamic broadcasting requires a holistic approach that integrates mass communication theories (agenda-setting, uses and gratifications), new media theories (interactivity, convergence), and the principles of Islamic da’wah. Key strategies include: (1) creative content grounded in authentic Islamic values, (2) consistent messaging with contextual relevance, (3) the use of analytic data for audience targeting, (4) collaboration with religious influencers, and (5) strengthening digital literacy among da’i. This article contributes to the development of a theoretical–practical framework for public communication in Islamic broadcasting that is adaptive to the dynamics of modern communication technologies while preserving the essential values of Islamic da’wah. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana WhatsApp Channel berfungsi sebagai ruang baru pembentukan Virtual Ummah dan bagaimana proses reartikulasinya terhadap komunitas muslim di era digital. Meningkatkan penggunaan WhatsApp sebagai salah satu media sosial paling populer di Indonesia menjadikannya medium potensial bagi para ustadz dan komunitas dakwah untuk membangun koneksi spiritual dan solidaritas keagamaan. Ruang digital ini menghadirkan pola komunikasi yang lebih personal, cepat dan partisipastif dibandingkan interaksi keagamaan di ruang fisik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi virtual. Data diperoleh melalui observasi beberapa WhatsApp Channel keagamaan, kemudian dianalisis secara tematik untuk melihat pola komunikasi, bentuk dakwah, serta nilai-nilai yang dibangun. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa WhatsApp Channel berfungsi tidak hanya sebagai media penyebaran pesan keagamaan, tetapi juga sebagai ruang pembentukan identitas dan solidaritas spiritual. Nilai-nilai seperti ukhuwah Islamiyah dan ta’awun muncul memlaui komunikasi simbolik sederhana seperti pesan singkatm emoji religious serta inetraksi para pengguna. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa umat muslim di ruang digital bukan sekedar audiens pasir, melainkan bagian aktif dalam membangun Virtual Ummah yang adaptif terhadap budaya komunikasi modern.

Abstract

Perkembangan era digital telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam kehidupan umat Islam, baik dalam aspek sosial, keagamaan, maupun pendidikan. Kemajuan teknologi informasi di satu sisi memungkinkan penyebaran ajaran Islam secara lebih luas, tetapi disisi lain juga menghadirkan tantangan yang begitu besar seperti misinformasi, penyebaran hoaks, dan pergeseran nilai keislaman. Di era digital, pendidikan tidak lagi terbatas pada ruang kelas fisik dan metode pengajaran konvensional. Teknologi telah membuka peluang bagi pendidikan untuk berkembang lebih dinamis, cepat, dan lebih terjangkau. Namun, seperti halnya di sektor lain, transformasi digital dalam pendidikan Islam juga membawa tantangan yang perlu diperhatikan dengan serius. Dengan adanya internet, berbagai sumber daya pendidikan, mulai dari buku digital, artikel, video pembelajaran, hingga ceramah agama dari ulama terkemuka, dapat diakses oleh siapa saja, kapan saja, dan di mana saja. Hal ini memungkinkan proses pembelajaran yang lebih fleksibel dan dapat diakses oleh berbagai kalangan. Selain itu, platform digital juga memfasilitasi komunikasi dan kolaborasi antar umat Muslim di seluruh dunia, memungkinkan pertukaran pengetahuan yang lebih luas dan mendalam mengenai ajaran Islam. Artikel ini mengeksplorasi tantangan dan peluang pendidikan Islam di era digital dengan fokus pada cara yang dapat dilakukan oleh para pendidik untuk beradaptasi dengan kemajuan teknologi dengan tetap mempertahankan nilai-nilai inti ajaran Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of religious values among audiences through digital da’wah content on YouTube. Digital da’wah emerges as a response to the development of communication technology, enabling religious messages to reach a wider audience, particularly younger generations who are highly active on social media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. Primary data were obtained from da’wah content on several YouTube channels such as Ustadz Abdul Somad’s lectures, the Escape podcast hosted by Ustadz Felix Siauw, and the Log In podcast by Habib Ja’far. Secondary data in the form of academic journal literature were also used to strengthen the analysis. The findings indicate that da’wah content on YouTube not only enhances the spiritual aspect and audiences’ understanding of Islam, but also shapes new religious values that are more applicable in everyday life. For instance, Ustadz Abdul Somad’s lectures strengthen religious literacy and emotional closeness between audiences and the preacher. The Escape podcast contributes to a religious transformation from ritualistic practices toward more sincere and reflective worship. Meanwhile, the Log In podcast emphasizes the social dimension of digital da’wah by fostering tolerance, solidarity, and inclusivity among religious communities. Thus, this study affirms that YouTube as a medium of digital da’wah plays an important role in shaping changes in religious values while simultaneously encouraging social change in the digital era.
