Abstract

The pursuit of a better education in line with one’s aspirations is one of the main factors driving students’ decisions to migrate to continue their education outside their home region. Migrant students may face various challenges, such as adapting to a new environment and adjusting to school life. In such situations, resilience is a key quality that students need to face difficulties with fortitude. One protective factor that enhances resilience is the role of a father. This study aims to examine whether father involvement is a significant predictor of the resilience of students living away from home. The study was conducted at SMKN 8 Surakarta, one of the schools attended by many migrant students. Purposive sampling was used. A total of 132 students living away from home completed the data collection questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the CYRM-R Plus Spirituality and Religiosity scale to measure resilience and the Father Involvement Scale to measure father involvement. Data was analyzed using simple linear regression. The results suggested that father involvement and resilience have a significant positive relationship (p = 0.000, p < 0.05) classified as a strong correlation (r = 0.609), with father involvement contributing 37.1% to the resilience of migrant students. This indicates that fathers play a significant role in the development of resilience among migrant students at SMKN 8 Surakarta.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of traditional masculinity in attitudes toward seeking professional mental health services, with gender role conflict as a mediating variable among early adult men. Attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help are defined as an individual’s evaluative tendency toward seeking professional assistance to address psychological problems. A quantitative research design with an online survey approach was employed. The sample consisted of 168 men aged 18–29 years. Data were collected using the Inventory of Attitudes Toward Seeking Mental Health Services, the Male Role Norms Inventory–Short Form, and the Gender Role Conflict Scale–Short Form. Data analysis was conducted using mediation regression with a bootstrapping method. The results indicated that traditional masculinity had a significant direct effect on attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help before gender role conflict was included in the model (R = 0.2336; R² = 0.0546; p = 0.0023). However, after gender role conflict was entered into the model, the direct effect of traditional masculinity became non-significant (t = 0.9381; p = 0.3496; LLCI = -0.0543; ULCI = 0.1527). Traditional masculinity was found to have a significant positive effect on gender role conflict (R = 0.7883; R² = 0.6215; p < 0.001). Furthermore, gender role conflict had a significant negative effect on attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help (t = -3.6963; p < 0.05; LLCI = -0.5335; ULCI = -0.1620). These findings indicate that gender role conflict mediates the relationship between traditional masculinity and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help.

Abstract

Psychological changes experienced among pregnant women such as depression, anxiety, and stress are known as psychological distress. Psychological distress during pregnancy can affect the health and daily activity of pregnant women. Psychological distress can be caused by pregnant women’s past and present experiences, also lack of support and unhealthy attachment relationships with husband and her families. This study aims to determine the role of attachment relationship patterns or romantic adult attachment, in this case attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance in psychological distress in pregnant women. This study used a non-experimental quantitative approach and cross-sectional design with Experience in Close Relationship Scale-Short Form (ECR-S) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). This study used an incidental sampling technique (N=166). This study found the role of romantic adult attachment in psychological distress pregnant women significantly (R2=0,236, p<0,001). In particular, a significant role was given by attachment anxiety (R2=0.216, p<0.001), and attachment avoidance (R2=0.090, p<0.001), in predicting psychological distress in pregnant women. According to Islamic reviews, paying attention and maintaining a strong attachment of married couples in the marriage bond includes worship to Allah SWT, because it can maintain harmony and build a family of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. The result of this study can be useful as the foundation for psychological distress intervention programs in pregnant women based on romantic adult attachment. Keywords: Psychological distress, pregnant women, romantic adult attachment.
