Abstract

In every sports competition, psychological aspects such as mental toughness and competitive anxiety play a crucial role in determining an athlete's success. Research related to mental toughness associated with competitive anxiety among rafting athletes is still limited. This study aims to examine the relationship between mental toughness and competitive anxiety in rafting athletes who are members of the Indonesian Rafting Federation (FAJI) in Jakarta. The study involved 35 rafting athletes, consisting of 13 males and 22 females, aged between 18 and 25 years. The instruments used to measure the variables in this study were the Mental Toughness Scale and the Competitive Anxiety Scale. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson's product-moment correlation in SPSS 26.0. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative relationship between mental toughness and competitive anxiety (r = -0.48, p < .003). These findings indicate that an increase in mental toughness is associated with a decrease in the level of competitive anxiety in Jakarta rafting athletes. The implications of these results highlight the importance of developing mental toughness as a strategy to reduce anxiety and enhance performance in competitive contexts.

Abstract

GERD is a chronic condition that can reduce the quality of life of patients, especially if not managed properly. Two important factors that affect the quality of life in GERD patients are self-efficacy and self-care, but how self-efficacy affects the quality of life through self-care mechanisms still requires a deeper understanding. Objective: This study aims to determine the role of self-care as a mediator between self-efficacy and quality of life in GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) patients. Method: The subjects in this study were 152 subjects consisting of 24 men and 128 women aged over 18 years and had been diagnosed with GERD by a doctor at least 6 months after receiving the diagnosis. This study uses a quantitative approach, the relationship model in this study is three variables analyzed by mediation analysis. Data collection was carried out using the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) scale, Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and Denyes Self Care Agency Instrument (DSCAI-90). The analysis in this study used the help of the JASP statistical application version 0.18.3.0. Results: Self-efficacy has an indirect effect on quality of life (indirect effect = 0.271, 95% CI = [0.128, 0.415]) p <0.01) through self-care as a mediator. The implications of this study are that it can help health workers to evaluate factors that influence the quality of life of GERD patients. Furthermore, the results of this study can provide various alternative treatments that are right for GERD patients by considering efficacy and self-care as factors that play a role in improving the quality of life in GERD patients. Abstract

The parent-child relationship is a quality of interaction formed through the relationship between children and their parents, measured by the quality of communication, trust, and anger and alienation. Currently, there is a limited availability of scales to measure the parent-child relationship in the Indonesian context. Therefore, this study aims to adapt the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) scale by Armsden and Greenberg (1987) into the Indonesian language. The adaptation process followed the guidelines of the International Test Commission (ITC) for translating measurement tools from English to Indonesian. The research involved a sample of 333 junior high school students from two schools in Yogyakarta. Results from the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) for the father-child relationship scale showed that 23 items tested had standardized loading factors (SLF) ranging from 0.02 to 0.80. Based on SLF values below 0.50, 10 items were removed. The goodness-of-fit indicators for the father-child relationship scale showed a good model fit (RMSEA = 0.059, CFI = 0.982, TLI = 0.975). Similarly, results from the CFA for the mother-child relationship scale showed that 21 items tested had SLFs ranging from 0.05 to 0.84. Eight items were removed due to SLF values below 0.50. The goodness-of-fit indicators for the mother-child relationship scale showed an excellent model fit. It can be concluded that the adaptation of the IPPA scale has produced satisfactory results and can be used in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

Studies on children’s concepts of health and illness mostly took focus on the views of healthy children. As children living with HIV face different challenges, it is essential to gain more understanding on their views on health and illness. The study used a guided drawing activity followed by a semi-structured interview. Thematic coding was done to analyze of the interview data. There were three categories formed both on the concepts of health and illness: The biomedical, psychosocial, and healthy lifestyle representation. To children living with HIV, the concepts hospitals, hospitalization, medications, doctors, and symptoms of being sick are common to them. Children revealed the emotional fatigue from being regularly sick and hospitalized, being discriminated and having to pay medical bills as consequence of having poor health. On the other hand, children also acknowledged the positive consequences of being healthy (e.g. playing without being discriminated, being able to celebrate the next birthdays). The study concluded that the ongoing health education programs for children with HIV should incorporate the positive consequences of being healthy, instead of focusing heavily on medical-related topics. Having a positive outlook will hopefully motivate these children to adhere to their medications and therefore improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Innovation is important for the sustainability of the company, therefore innovative work behavior of employees is an important factor in Gen Z employees, who are known to be innovative. However, Gen Z employees often express disappointment over unfairness in the workplace, which is influenced by organizational justice. This study was conducted to see the role of organizational justice on innovative work behavior in Gen Z employees. Data were obtained from 217 employees aged 18-28 years using an online questionnaire. Based on the results of a simple linear regression analysis, organizational justice plays a positive and significant role in innovative work behavior (β = 0.36, p < .001). Organizational justice can explain 13% of the variance in innovative work behavior (R² = 0.13, p < .001). Based on the results of multiple linear regression analysis, the procedural justice dimension plays a positive and significant role in innovative work behavior (β = 0.40, p < .001). However, the dimensions of distributive justice (β = 0.08, p = .32), interpersonal justice (β = 0.07, p = .36), and informational justice (β = -0.08, p = .28) did not play a significant role in innovative work behavior. Research shows that procedural justice plays a role in encouraging innovative work behavior; therefore, companies must ensure a fair, transparent, and consistent decision-making process so that Gen Z employees exhibit innovative work behavior.

Abstract

The prevalence of suicide among students has increased year by year. Various factors, including the quality of friendships and stress levels, influenced this condition. The study aims to determine the role of stress levels in mediating the influence of friendship quality on suicidal ideation. The approach used a correlational quantitative design. The research respondents were active students aged between 18 and 25 years, were currently abroad, had close friends, and had ever thought about committing suicide, totalling 174 people obtained through purposive sampling techniques. The measuring instruments used were an adaptation of the McGrill Friendship Questionnaire-Friend's Function (MFQ-FF), Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSS), and Perceived Stress Scale-10 items (PSS-10). Data analysis used Mediated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results showed that there was no influence of friendship quality on suicidal ideation, which was mediated by stress level. Additionally, it is also known that the quality of friends has a negative influence on stress levels. This means that stress levels are not mediators and do not influence suicidal ideation. The quality of friendship also does not influence suicidal ideation. However, good-quality friendships can help reduce stress levels.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of group-based psychotherapy interventions in reducing social anxiety. This meta-analysis included 12 articles involving 539 participants (323 in the intervention group and 216 in the control group). This study hypothesized that group psychotherapy is effective in reducing the symptoms of social anxiety disorder. Data analyzed included sample size (N), mean (M), and standard deviation (SD) to calculate the effect size using a random-effects model. The results showed a Hedge’s g effect size of -0.809 (95% CI -1.202 to -0.416) with moderate heterogeneity (I² = 73.84%). Moderator analysis based on country of origin revealed a difference in effect size of -1.217 (95% CI -2.109 to -0.325) with lower heterogeneity (I² = 61.28%). These findings indicate that group-based psychotherapy is significantly effective in reducing social anxiety. Furthermore, Asian countries demonstrated greater effectiveness compared to Western countries in using group psychotherapy to alleviate social anxiety symptoms. This study highlights the importance of incorporating cultural contexts into the development of group psychotherapy interventions.

Abstract

Social media has become the dominant platform for adolescents to interact socially, making them vulnerable to social comparison. This study examines the role of social comparison on life satisfaction in adolescent social media users. This study uses quantitative methods. The sample of this study involved 113 adolescents aged 18-21 who actively use social media, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through an online questionnaire using two instruments, namely the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) to measure social comparison and the Riverside Life Satisfaction Scale (RLSS) to measure life satisfaction. The results of the linear regression analysis indicated that social comparison did not have a significant influence on life satisfaction, with an R2 of .000 and a p-value of .840. This finding indicates that although adolescents might frequently engage in social comparisons on social media, it is not associated with their overall life satisfaction. This study suggests that other factors may play a greater role in determining life satisfaction, so further research is needed to understand the complexities of social comparison in social media use.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction among Probation Officers. This research is based on field observations, particularly at Bapas Class I Tangerang. Although most employees do not explicitly report any issues, they often work overtime beyond regular hours, indicating that stress might be a factor affecting their job satisfaction. Bapas Class I Tangerang has unique characteristics as a correctional institution dealing with high-risk situations, including managing inmates with serious criminal backgrounds and children involved in legal issues, which affects job stress levels among its employees. Using a quantitative correlational design, this study aims to investigate the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction among probation officers. The study sample consists of 31 Probation Officers selected purposively. The results revealed a significant negative correlation between job stress and job satisfaction (r = -.392, p<.01), with an R-Squared value of .154. These findings highlight the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction, where higher levels of job stress are associated with lower levels of job satisfaction among probation officers.

Abstract

The prevalence of chronic diseases is currently shifting towards young people, so individuals need to adopt a good and sustainable healthy lifestyle for their future health and well-being. However, Indonesian people have low awareness regarding health. Body awareness of health can encourage someone to evaluate their lifestyle and prevent long-term health problems. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body awareness and the dimensions of a healthy lifestyle in young adults. The participants were 102 young adults (Mean age = 22 years) in Jabodetabek, selected using a convenience sampling technique. The instruments used were the Body Awareness Questionnaire (BAQ), which has a good reliability coefficient (Alpha = .842), and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II), which has sufficient reliability (Alpha = .585 - .893). The results showed a significant positive relationship between body awareness and each dimension of a healthy lifestyle (r = .350–.483), including health responsibility, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, interpersonal relations, and spiritual growth. This suggests that higher body awareness is associated with a healthier lifestyle among young adults. Thus, promotional or educational programs from psychologists or health practitioners to promote a healthy lifestyle for the young adult generation can be carried out by increasing their knowledge and skills regarding body awareness.
