Abstract

Public cleaning service or commonly referred to as “yellow troops” is the name for a group of professions working to clean up urban trash in the city of Palembang. Various kinds of stereotypes and prejudices arise in the community aimed at public cleaning service. Public cleaning service come from underprivileged people who have not been able to get out of the poverty line, have low educational background and never even received any education, because of low education and poverty factor, they also live in less clean settlements. As a socially meaningful reality, work as a public cleaning service is a profession. In general, the purpose of this study: is to find out how the management of communication that occurred on public cleaning service of Palembang city. The theory used is communication management theory and used qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques used was in-depth interviews, direct observation and documentation study. The result of the research is: communication management on the public cleaning service of Palembang city quite diverse as seen from interpersonal communication.

Abstract

Terdapat tujuh kebiasaan yang diajukan Stephen R. Covey agar hidup manusia efektif, yakni hidup proaktif sebagai visi pribadi, memulai dengan gambaran akhir kehidupan sebagai bentuk kepemimpinan pribadi, mendahulukan yang utama sebagai bentuk kemampuan melakukan prioritas, berpikir menang-menang dalam menjalankan kepemimpinan antarpribadi, mengerti orang lain terlebih dahulu baru kemudian akan dimengerti orang lain, melakukan sinergi berkomunikasi secara efektif dan kreatif, dan memperbarui diri secara terus-menerus. Ketujuh habit tersebut sangat relevan diimplementasikan dalam kehidupan profesi dosen. Tiga habit yang pertama merupakan hal-hal yang perlu dimiliki dosen untuk mengefektifkan dirinya secara internal dalam menyikapi tugas-tugasnya sebagai dosen. Tiga habit berikutnya merupakan hal-hal penting bagi dosen untuk mengefektifkan dirinya secara eksternal, dalam hubungannya dengan sesama dosen, mahasiswa, dan pihak lainnya. Habit yang terakhir merupakan hal penting untuk mengembangkan kepekaan seorang dosen dalam upaya mengantsipasi berbagai perubahan dalam profesi yang dijalaninya.

Abstract

Polygamy always creating conflicts, not only from non Islamic, but also inside Islamic people as well. Although polygamy is allowed by Islam, cultural barrier and negative perceptions spread among people made polygamy was practiced under hidden circumstance. This phenomenon created controversies, and an analysis based on dramaturgy theory of Goffmann would be best to examine the practice. The research found that management impression occurred both in back stage as well as in front stage. The actor is the husband who tried to improve his image by showing off his loyalty toward his first wife. Front stage and back stage are mixed, and in order to trace the genuine message, one must focus on nonverbal message implied in communication process among the pair(s).

Abstract

 Image is a public perception that’s caused by marketing communication of the organization. One of the largest automotive company in the world, Mercedes-Benz is still aware of the importance of building image with branding. Through Indonesia Most Admired Companies (IMACO) Award by the Warta Ekonomi Intelligence Unit (WEIU), companies in Indonesia compete to be superior companies compared to competitors. PT. Mercedes-Benz Indonesia, which is known to have good product knowledge among the public, is considered to have low company’s knowledge because it has not been ranked in the IMACO Award. The urgency to differentiate company with other companies as the employer encourages companies to carry out the employer branding strategy. Therefore, the author is interested in conducting further research on employer branding processes carried out by PT. Mercedes-Benz Indonesia to reach the title of the Most Admired Company. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative data. The results of this study reveal that; 1) the formation of the employer value proposition begins with the expectations and objectives of the company that are applied in accordance with the values   and corporate culture, 2) the external marketing evp is carried out by involving the general public and prospective candidates to build good image in their minds. 3) the internal marketing evp is run with employee development and engagement programs to improve their quality and capabilities.

Abstract

Filsafat memiliki sejumlah mitos yang sering mengurungkan minat orang mempelajarinya: filsafat itu abstrak, sulit, tidak memiliki kegunaan praktis. Namun, sesungguhnya filsafat memiliki banyak kegunaan: (1) filsafat dapat membantu untuk memperluas pandangan, menempatkan suatu bidang ilmiah dalam perspektif yang lebih luas; (2) filsafat dapat membantu untuk belajar berpikir kritis dan menganalisis segala masalah yang timbul secara tajam; (3) melalui filsafat, segala pemikiran dan cara pengungkapannya dapat diasah dan dipertajam; (4) melalui studi filsafat, kita dapat mengerti lebih mendalam dunia di mana kita hidup; (5) studi etika—sebagai salah satu cabang filsafat—dapat menanamkan kesadaran etis dalam jiwa seseorang. Dalam dunia ilmu, secara teoretis filsafat mampu memberikan pemahaman yang esensial tentang manusia, sehingga pada gilirannya kita bisa meninjau secara kritis asumsi-asumsi yang tersembunyi di balik teori-teori yang terdapat di dalambidang ilmu kita masing-masing; secara praktis, filsafat berguna untuk mengetahui apa dan siapa manusia secara menyeluruh. Berkaitan dengan komunikasi, filsafat meneliti komunikasi secara kritis dan diakletis. Filsafat bersikap kritis, tidak pernah berpuas diri, selalu bersedia membuka kembali perdebatan. Sikap kritis terhadap dirinya sendiri termasuk hakikat filsafat. Dialektis berarti bahwa setiap kebenaran menjadi lebih benar dengan setiap putaran tesis—antitesis dan antitesisnya antitesis. Filsafat komunikasi adalah suatu disiplin yang menelaah pemahaman secara fundamental, metodologis, sistematis, analitis, kritis, dan holistis, teori dan proses komunikasi yang meliputi segala dimensi menurut bidangnya, sifatnya, tatanannya, tujuannya, fungsinya, tekniknya, dan metodenya. Filsafat mempersoalkan apakah hakikat manusia komunikan, dan bagaimana ia menggunakan komunikasi untuk berhubungan dengan realitas lain di alam semesta ini. Filsafat melihat posisi komunikasi dalam hubungan timbal balik antara manusia dan alam semesta.

Abstract

The role of mass media in creating cognitive response concerning input function, conversion process, and political system output is lower than political system capability. This difference is due to two reasons: (1) in teenager’s thinking domain, input function, conversion process, and political output are more theoretical-abstract; (2) political news exposure in mass media is more highlighting demanded citizen characteristics as important attributes of political system capability. This means that though teenagers are considered to be important in political domain, political news exposure has not been considering teenagers’ psycho-political aspect.

Abstract

Persoalan konflik keorganisasian merupakan suatu hal yang tidak bisa dihindari, bahkan diciptakan untuk mendapatkan suatu dinamika organisasi. Perkembangan konflik dalam organisasi dapat bersifat fungsional dan disfungsional. Konflik fungsional mempunyai potensi untuk pengembangan organisasi menuju ke suatu dinamika sehingga dapat tercapai suatu prestasi keorganisasian. Konflik disfungsional mempunyai potensi menjadi pengganggu tumbuhnya organisasi yang berakibat dapat menurunkan kinerja.

Abstract

Veil usage is not only just a matter of fashion style. Moreover, veils symbolize many great values in Islamic tradition. No wonder if veil—or jilbab—are commonly found in many places, including campus, among students as well as lecturer. This research aimed to investigate the motivation of the girls in wearing jilbab.  Using phenomenology approach to know more about subjectivity meanings constructed between research subjects, the research has finally revealed some motivations among the girls in wearing jilbab. There are three motives in wearing jilbab as found among Unisba’s students:  theological motive, psychological motive, and fashionable motive.  Such motive further implied on three different identities constructed by research subjects: Phenomenal Moslem Students, Fashionable Moslem Students, and Tolerant Moslem Students.

Abstract

The changing of newspapers format and design in Indonesia become a prominence phenomenon in recent times. When Kompas, a national leading newspaper in Indonesia, changed its format and design, it was sufficiently enough to claim that McJournalism phenomenon started to appear in Indonesia. McJournalism, adopted by Bob Franklin from Ritzer’s famous term “McDonaldization,” consisted of four characteristic: efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. An analysis to such changes on some Indonesian major newspaper formats and designs have proven that the policy led also to the changing of mechanisms and working routines in those newspapers as well.

Ternyata, agama selama ini cuma ditempatkan di bagian pengjaran dalam drama kehidupan masyarakat dan nilai bangsa. Sekiranya menguasai sejarah kita gunakan untuk melihat sejauh mana peran agama dalam hubungannya dengan proses politik di Indonesia selama setengah abad ini. betapa akibat langsung atau tidak langsung dari korupsi wilayah agama ini telah mengantarkan bangsa kila mencapai "prestasi" terbesar, paling tidak dalam empat hal: salah satu paling korup di dunia, negara paling banyak utangnya. bangsayang paling tidak kompetiti[di dunia, dan bangsa yangpaling sering mempertontonkan silang saling-tuding bahkan saling bunuh antarbangsa sendiri.
