Abstract

Advertising is essential in persuading, strengthening, and reminding the product of the public. Advertising is a representation of a product. From the modern communication perspective, advertising is used to make up the product's image. Recently, advertisements have appeared not only in conventional media but also in new media. Advertising works are becoming more varied and creative considering that new media are relatively uptight regulation than conventional media. This creates a hyper-reality that goes beyond the function of the ad itself. This study seeks to reveal Syahrini's Shopee marketplace advertisement on Youtube. The advertisement's content is examined critically and analyzed using Pierce's triangle of meaning: object, interpretant, and representamen. The research found that hyper-reality simulacra were created as a compulsive shopping narrative. This occurs due to unpleasant events or negative feelings caused by addiction, depression, and boredom. However, the public does not know this.

Abstract

Reports in the mass and online media tend to present people with disabilities in an insufficient representation. When people with disabilities are portrayed in the news, they are often marked by the stigma attached by society. This shows the importance of directing the approach of journalists toward inclusive journalism. This research aims to examine how the representation of different abilities is portrayed in the local online media TribunSumsel.com. This research uses the framing analysis method of Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki. The results of the research show that many news of TribunSumsel.com presented a positive portrayal of people with different ability by avoiding the use of stereotypical language or phrases. However, in terms of news sources, this media more often used non-disabled sources, even in disability news. In other topics, people with disabilities were not involved as news sources. The use of images was still focused on people with physical disabilities, while other disabilities were not raised. In addition, the portrayal of people with different abilities as inspiring objects still stood out (inspiration porn). This result showed that the media still needs to apply the principles of inclusive journalism.

Abstract

Changes in the web have led to the emergence of slacktivism as a social movement with high participation in society at low risk and low cost. Slacktivism relies on the characteristics of Web 1.0, which focuses on hypertext, and Web 2.0, which emphasizes user participation. This research examines the use of Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 by activists as initiators of the online petition Rejection of the 56-year Liquid JHT Rule (Jaminan Hari Tua). This qualitative research uses a case study method by conducting interviews with the initiators of the online petition for the Rejection of the 56-year Liquid JHT Rule. The results of this study found several factors that support the success of slacktivism, including activists' deep understanding of an issue, activists' critical power using Web 1.0 and Web 2.0, issue factors, and storytelling of the issues raised. Activists rely on Web 1.0 as the primary source of information, but Web 2.0 is an essential medium for disseminating information with the power of storytelling regularly. This follows previous research that states that critical people use the Web with different practices than business rhetoric. Slacktivism is a legitimate social movement that can change stakeholder policies with high participation from internet users.

Abstract

The number of older adults is significantly increasing globally. In Indonesia, the elderly represent a growing large proportion of the population. They form a thriving market for commercial products and services in this sense. On the other hand, the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has transformed people’s daily lives. The ability to use ICT is considered a prerequisite of the “Information Society.” However, the role of ICT in determining the quality of life (QOL) of the elderly has received less attention from existing studies and focuses more on medical technology. By reviewing and synthesizing the previous 20 kinds of literature between 2017-2022, this paper aims to examine the possibilities of the internet and ICT to improve the quality of life of the elderly and contribute to their social inclusion. This study found that using ICT and the internet reduces their loneliness and social isolation, increasing self-control, providing social support and leisure, and integrating them into society. In the process of adopting ICT and the internet, the elderly have barriers intrapersonal, interpersonally, structurally, and functionally.

The use of digital media has been very influential in all circles. This phenomenon forces the government to adapt and familiarize itself with digital media. The problem of information in the midst of the pandemic shows the importance of both central and regional government’s official social media as a source of information or as media that can show that the government “cares” during the pandemic. This study aims to determine the communication strategy carried out by the Yogyakarta Government in managing Instagram @humasjogja. This is because the people of Yogyakarta always spread the posts uploaded by Yogyakarta’s Public Relations. This study uses a qualitative method. Based on the results of the study, the authors see that the Yogyakarta Government uses the official Instagram to appeal to the people of Yogyakarta, especially during the pandemic, by releasing new content and strategy. One of the content is “Sapa Aruh” which is a direct appeal from the Governor of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

In today's world, there is a shift from non-renewable to renewable energy sources. The potential of renewable energy, such as solar energy, has yet to be widely utilized, even though renewable energy has considerable potential, especially in Indonesia. For this study, researchers obtained data on solar panel consumers through the official contact list website for potential consumers of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Researchers obtained data through online questionnaires distributed to 207 consumers of products related to the renewable energy. Researchers use this sample because they are consumers or users of the renewable energy in the form of solar panels. In data presentation, data in the form of responses received from online questionnaires can generally show the demographic characteristics of the respondents. This research aims to formulate an effective promotional strategy by identifying consumer characteristics.
