This research used the Jigsaw Model test to collect the data. The result of the t-test was 2.39 and the t-table value was 1.70 at the 5% significance level with a degree of freedom of 26. It showed that the t-test value was higher than the t-table value. This data analysis was also strengthened by the average scores of the students. The average score of the respondents’ post-test results was 75.37, which was higher than 52.04 in the pre-test of the experimental group. Based on the results of the data analysis and discussion, it could be concluded that there was an effect of the Cooperative Learning Jigsaw Model on the students’ vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade at SDN 1 Bakungan.

Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between self-motivation, self-efficacy, and reading comprehension ability of eighth-grade students at MTs Hidayatul Mubtadiin – Balak in the 2025/2026 academic year. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were obtained through questionnaires on self-motivation and self-efficacy based on Guthrie & Wigfield and Bandura’s theories, along with a reading comprehension test on narrative texts guided by Snow’s framework. The results revealed that most students demonstrated high self-motivation and self-efficacy, with 71.43% categorized in the high group and none in the low group. However, their reading comprehension performance was relatively weak, as 71.43% of students were in the poor to very poor category, with an average score of 34.52 out of 100. Statistical analysis using multiple linear regression indicated a moderate positive correlation (R = 0.437) between self-motivation, self-efficacy, and reading comprehension, yet the relationship was not statistically significant (p = 0.149 > 0.05). These findings suggest that while motivation and efficacy may contribute to reading ability, they are insufficient alone to drive significant improvement. Therefore, a more comprehensive approach is required, incorporating effective reading strategies, supportive instruction, and conducive learning environments to enhance students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) in improving students’ comprehension of recount texts in an Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context. Employing a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 21 tenth-grade students of MA Al-Qodiri 8 Kelir, Banyuwangi, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a reading comprehension test consisting of 20 multiple-choice items aligned with key comprehension indicators and administered before and after the CSR intervention. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-sample t-test. The results show a substantial improvement in students’ reading performance, with the mean score increasing from 58.10 in the pretest to 74.76 in the posttest. Statistical analysis indicates that the improvement is significant (p < 0.05), confirming the effectiveness of CSR. In addition to quantitative gains, CSR also enhances students’ meta-cognitive awareness and supports collaborative meaning-making during reading activities. These findings suggest that CSR not only improves comprehension outcomes but also promotes active and strategic learning. Therefore, CSR can be considered an effective alternative instructional strategy for improving reading comprehension in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether the use of pop-up books affects the reading comprehension achievement of fifth-grade students at SDN Bakungan in the 2023–2024 academic year. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of 21 students from class VA, and data were collected using a reading comprehension test. The results showed an improvement in students’ performance, with the mean pretest score of 66.67 increasing to 87.14 in the posttest. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.001, which is lower than 0.05, indicating a significant effect of pop-up book usage on students’ reading comprehension. These findings suggest that pop-up books can serve as an effective and engaging instructional medium to enhance reading comprehension among elementary school students. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to integrate interactive media such as pop-up books into reading instruction, and future researchers may explore its application across different grade levels or in comparison with other instructional media.
