Abstract

Political parties are official organizations created by people who have interests and goals to control the government, by placing their members in the government through an election mechanism. The election process is inseparable from political parties, because political parties can channel the aspirations of the people, where the people can participate in it and have a strong influence on the election. The main function of political parties is to seek power, gain power and maintain it. In the 2017 Musi Banyuasin Local Election, the pairs of Dodi Reza and Beni Hernedi were carried out by 11 (eleven) political parties namely PDIP, Golkar, Democrat, Hanura, Nasdem, and PKB. As the party supporting the pair Dodi Reza and Beni Hernedi in the 2017 Musi Banyuasin Regional Election, political parties should fight in giving victory to the candidate pair that they carry by carrying out the functions of political parties as well as possible. Issues that will be discussed in this study include how the function of political parties in winning sub-regional elections and how the functions of political parties supporting the pair Dodi Reza and Beni Hernedi are assessed from the results of votes in the 2017 Musi Banyuasin Regional Election. This type of research is field research, while the type of research is qualitative, where the research procedure produces a description, which describes and describes matters relating to the problem of the function of political parties. The rationale that the researchers used in this study is the framework of thinking from Miriam Budiardjo to explain the function of political parties. The results of this study indicate that the function of political parties carried out by the party supporting the pair Dodi Reza and Beni Hernedi has not run optimally, this is evident from the high level of abstentions in the Musi Banyuasin elections in 2017.

Abstract

This article discusses how the splinter movements in Indonesia, namely LDII (Lembaga Dakwah Islam Indonesia), MTA (Majlis Tafsir Al Quran) and JMI (Jam'iyyatul Islamiyah) can survive and develop against two constraints that are the state and Islamic orthodox group. The methods of this research-based article are both library and field research. This article uses comparative analysis from the three movements include their adaptive means to the social and political milieu in Indonesia. The movements start to grow in the 1970'. In New Order Era (1966-1998), under Suharto authoritarian regime, these movements use the state approach by joining Golkar, government political party, and help the party to win general elections. However, in the 1990 era, when Suharto starts to embrace the orthodox group, government protection to those religious groups is not enough to withstand the heretical issues that have already spread in public. The issues lead to physical persecution from the mass to these movements. Thus, the only way to survive from that conditions, the three movements start to make an approach to orthodox groups, especially MUI (Majlis Ulama Indonesia) the mainstream group representative such as NU (Nahdlatul Ulama) and Muhammadiyah two biggest Islamic groups in Indonesia, by making dialogues and complying the Islamic mainstream standards issued by MUI.

Abstract

In this paper we focus on ethnicity and ethnic enclosure among Muslim ethnic groups in Golestan province of Iran. It also has referred to the aspects of interethnic interactions among and between the ethnic groups which consider themselves, and are regarded by others, as being culturally distinctive. We find that ethnic differences and similarities have made individuals ethnically consciousness. This in turn has implications for and influence ethnic enclosure. People in the cities were socially organized mostly along some aspects of ethnicity such as ethnic identities based on linguistic, religious sect (Shiite and Sunnite) or region of origin criteria. People grew strongly self-consciousness of their ethnic identity under these circumstances of contact with members of other groups. They develop standardized ways of behaving vis-à-vis each other, and orient themselves socially according to ‘ethnic map’. Ethnic groups model settlement pattern, marriages and perceptions along ethnic lines, and ethnic disparities come in to play while interacting with out-group members.

Reformist Protestantism headed by Shariati and 5. the movement of forming an Islamic civilization, led by the unique architect of the 20th century, Imam Khomeini. These schools of thought, at times contain ideas that are quite similar, but at others are extremely contradictory. It is this issue that has made research concerning these schools and ideas even more essential. Elements such as irrationality, being anti-western, reactions in the face of the waves of modernity and political theories based on religion can be mentioned as being some of the most important factors in the appearance of these trends. It is the aim of this paper to explore the backgrounds and latest developments of these thoughts over the last century in a descriptive – analytical way.

Abstract

After the death of Osama Bin Laden and the declaration of the establishment of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Al-Qaeda movement changed from being aggressive to being passive. The aggressiveness of the Al-Qaeda movement, for instance, was seen during the spectacular terror of 9/11, which was then followed by various actions carried out by followers in various parts of the world. However, Bin Laden's death and the rise of the ISIS group made Al-Qaeda look passive. This paper seeks to see the history of the Al-Qaeda movement to the dynamics that influence the movement’s choices. The author found that changing Al-Qaeda's orientation from aggressive to passive did not deny the existence of a consolidated movement that deliberately distanced itself from the anti-terrorism campaign carried out by the United States.
