Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender are referred to as LGBT. LGBT includes a range of gender identities and sexual orientations. Gay means liking the same gender (men) or homosexuals. This article aims to learn about gay culture represented by the two main characters, Teh and Oh-Aew, in the series titled I Told Sunset About You (2020). The characterization theory from Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie was applied with the qualitative method in the data source to collect and analyze the data. This article aims to demonstrate the gay culture that the main character represents. Based on their portrayals, Teh and Oh-Aew demonstrate that they are gay. There are two positions in a gay relationship: the top role is more superior and masculine, while the bottom is more inferior and feminine. Teh has a top role in a gay relationship in the series I Told Sunset About You (2020), and Oh-Aew as a bottom. In conclusion, Teh shows the gay culture by changing his appearance into a more masculine one by styling his hair and changing his clothes to attract Oh-Aew's attention. On the other hand, Oh-Aew also shows the gay culture when he meets Teh by using accessories and woman's clothes. Therefore, the writer hopes this article will enrich the readers’ knowledge to raise understanding of the gay culture.

Expressing ideas in the form of written expression is usually challenging for many students in ESL/EFL classes. Along with the acquisition of the second language (L2), to write in L2 students might experience some social and cognitive challenges. For instance, Students may have little confidence to write in L2 compared to that of their first language. Moreover, language proficiency in L2 adds on to the quality of good writing. Some quandaries may contribute for this situation, in writing; students may face common issues such as: grappling with grammar aspects, choosing the appropriate vocabularies, copping with punctuation and mechanics, making coherence and cohesion, and generating ideas (Al Badi, 2015; Younes & Albalawi, 2015). Thus, the researchers are going to stimulate thdents' creativity in writing via mini magazines to help students in generating their ideas and sharpen their writing skills. By assigning the students to make mini-magazines, the researchers believe that it will have a positive impact on the students' writing skills and language proficiency.

This study reveals the relationship between the plot, characterizations, point of view, and symbols-allegory in the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Through the psychoanalytic approach proposed by Carl Gustav Jung, this qualitative research also looks at the correlation between the utopian delusions that occur in the story. Based on the results of the textual analysis, it was found that the utopian delusion relation was found in three parts, including (1) the delusion of fidelity to tradition, (2) the delusion of time, and (3) the delusion of utopia. The application of psychoanalytic theory will propose a different point of view from previous studies which are still more focused only on the symbol-irony relation of tradition. In fact, the conflict, setting, actions of the characters, and symbols in the story are related to the human subconscious which requires perfection of action that results in delusions.

Since the existence of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory by Lakoff and Johnson (2003), many research has focused on how the conceptualization of the abstract domain is represented in a concrete domain. This leads to a realization that metaphor is more than just a poetic device, it can show how a community understands an abstract concept using a more concrete one. In this study, conceptual metaphors of terrorism are investigated to find out how the Indonesian mass media represent it in their publication. The results show that most of the metaphors are conceptually related to LIVING ORGANISM while one being specific to Indonesian culture, which is SHADOW PUPPET. In contrast, there are no violent conceptual metaphors found in the Indonesian mass media, such as TERRORISM IS WAR or DISEASE. This can bring different effects on the readers of mass media, such as psychological and social. Also understanding the conceptual metaphors in mass media can help us understanding the framing of terrorism, in this case, in Indonesia.

The study aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the messages conveyed by the posters related to COVID-19. Employing descriptive qualitative method, the study analyzed the verbal and visual elements of health promotion posters posted by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) official Instagram, using Halliday’s social semiotic metafunction and Kress and van Leeuwen’s multimodality. The study found that the multimodal posters effectively conveyed messages related to instructions, information, and prohibitions. However, an imbalance in the application of various modes within the posters was identified, posing the potential for misunderstanding and confusion among viewers. Nevertheless, the study offers several suggestions on creating health promotion posters that are both persuasive and informative. The findings contribute to the development of health campaign poster materials that capture attention, convey messages effectively, and align with expectations outlined in health campaign targets, while simultaneously ensuring comprehensive communication. The study provides evaluative results that can inform effective communication strategies for promoting public health during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Advertising is an endless source of research. The language used in advertising is a language that is easy to understand and persuasive. This paper discusses the Japanese language of Japan’s advertisements taken from printed and online magazines. This research was analyzed with Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) by Halliday and Hasan (1985: 64 ) and Multimodal by Kress & van Leeuwen (1996, 2006). This research is qualitative and descriptive and analyzed as grammar of Japanese advertisements. The objects of the advertisement were obtained in three stages of advertising - pioneering, competitive, and retentive stages. This type of pioneering advertising is used in the introductory stages of the life cycle of a product. Competition is useful when the product has reached the market-growth and especially the market-maturity stage. The Retentive advertisement is when the product has achieved a favorable status in the market, maturity, or declining stage. The results showed that many Japanese advertisements in pioneering and competitive steps can be analyzed with SFL and used material process. In the Retentive step, many ads are in ellipsis words so only analyzed with Multimodal. All the advertisements used the grammar of material and relational processes. This paper is useful not only for the linguistic world, especially Japanese linguistics but also for the actors or advertisers so that consumers are more interested in using their products
