Abstract

This study explores the implementation of local history learning in higher education within the framework of the Society 5.0 era, which seeks to balance technological progress with human-centered values. The research is grounded in the growing need to integrate digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into history education, which has traditionally relied on conventional approaches. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study was conducted in three regions: Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. Data was collected through interviews and document analysis involving three lecturers who teach Local History courses and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that local history is understood as the study of local events and values that strengthen regional and national identity. In the context of Society 5.0, local history learning has begun to utilize digital tools, including online archives, educational videos, and AI-based applications; however, implementation remains uneven among universities. Learning methods vary from project-based learning and field trips to discovery-based approaches. The study identifies major challenges, including limited access to online historical resources, low academic writing proficiency among students, and ethical concerns related to AI use. Conversely, digital integration presents opportunities to expand access to historical materials and enhance students’ engagement with local history. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for curriculum development involving professional organizations, particularly the Indonesian Association of History Education Study Programs (P3SI), to align local history education with the Society 5.0 paradigm.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the existence of Japanese bunkers in Banyuwangi by examining their physical condition, location, function, and the perceptions of the local community toward these historical relics. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a historical approach. Data were collected through field observations, documentation, and interviews with members of the local community as well as related stakeholders. The results indicate that Japanese bunkers are distributed across several strategic locations in Banyuwangi, with physical conditions ranging from relatively well-preserved to significantly damaged. During the Japanese occupation, these bunkers functioned as defense structures, military surveillance posts, and storage facilities for weapons and military equipment. Currently, local community perceptions generally recognize the bunkers as historical relics of war. However, many community members have limited understanding of their original functions and historical significance. These findings highlight the importance of preserving and documenting such historical remains as part of local cultural heritage and as valuable resources for historical education. Abstract

Cultural and religious diversity in Indonesia often poses challenges in maintaining interfaith harmony due to differences in beliefs, values, and religious practices. This condition indicates that social harmony does not emerge naturally, but must be deliberately constructed through social practices within community life. In this context, this study examines the role of the Saparan tradition as a space for social interaction in maintaining interfaith harmony in Polobogo Village, Semarang Regency. This research aims to understand the processes, meanings, and dynamics of interfaith social interactions formed through the implementation of the Saparan tradition. The study employs an interpretive qualitative approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and included community leaders, religious leaders, and residents actively involved in the Saparan tradition. Data validity was ensured through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the Saparan tradition functions not only as an annual cultural ritual but also as an effective space for social interaction among communities with diverse religious backgrounds. Through its stages of preparation, implementation, and closing, the tradition fosters social interaction, cooperation, and communication among residents regardless of religious differences. Moreover, the Saparan tradition embodies positive values that are actively practiced in everyday community life. Academically, this study contributes to the fields of cultural and religious sociology by affirming that local cultural traditions can serve as mechanisms for fostering harmony in pluralistic societies. These findings demonstrate that local wisdom holds significant potential in maintaining social diversity and interfaith harmony and can serve as a reference for future research on the role of local cultural traditions in multicultural societies.

Abstract

This historical study aims to explore the transformation of the Sumenep Kingdom into the present-day Keraton Sumenep, to identify the role of the museum in preserving local Madurese culture from 2010 to 2020, and to analyze the impact of cultural preservation efforts on the educational relevance for younger generations in Sumenep. Employing historical research methodology, the study utilized data from observations, interviews with museum staff and educators, and documentation of cultural artifacts and programs. Findings reveal that the transformation of the kingdom into a palace reflects a significant historical continuity, reinforced through preserved royal heritage such as weaponry, royal attire, and traditional texts. The museum has actively implemented educational outreach, including school visits and cultural exhibitions, as a means of engaging youth and transmitting cultural values. It also serves as a platform for living traditions, such as the annual ritual of jamasan pusaka and traditional performing arts. These initiatives contribute to sustaining cultural identity amid the pressures of globalization. The study underscores the museum's dual function as a historical institution and an educational catalyst, particularly in shaping local identity and intergenerational cultural literacy. Its efforts suggest a sustainable model of cultural preservation rooted in community participation and formal education..

Abstract

This research aims to describe the planning, implementation, and challenges in applying the Generative Learning model in history learning, specifically on the topic of the Development of Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms in Indonesia. The study is based on the observed lack of student engagement and the monotony of conventional lecture methods at SMAN 1 Tilatang Kamang. The Generative Learning model, rooted in constructivist theory, emphasizes that students build knowledge through personal experience and interaction with their environment. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included history teachers and students of class X-E5. The planning phase involved the preparation of teaching modules and student worksheets (LKPD) based on case studies related to cultural traditions with Hindu-Buddhist elements. The learning process was carried out in four stages: exploration, focusing, challenge, and application. These stages encouraged students to actively engage in group discussions, connect prior knowledge with new information, and critically analyze cultural phenomena. The findings revealed that the Generative Learning model increased student participation and understanding. This was evidenced by improved group performance, with all student groups scoring above the minimum competency criteria. However, some challenges were encountered, such as students' limited prior knowledge, difficulties in developing appropriate case studies, and time management issues during group discussions and presentations.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the development of the Makan Sirih Dance in shaping and representing the cultural identity of the Malay community in Pekanbaru City. This dance was first created by O.K. Nizami Jamil at the beginning of the formation of Riau Province as a performance to welcome honored guests in official state events. Over time, the Makan Sirih Dance has undergone a shift in function, from being formal to becoming part of the customary procession in Malay weddings. This study uses historical research methods consisting of four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data sources are obtained through literature studies, archives, documentation, and interviews. The research results show that the Makan Sirih Dance has developed not only as a form of performing art but also as a symbol of respect, acceptance, and the identity of the Malay community in Pekanbaru. Its existence until 2009 reflects the strong efforts to preserve culture amidst the ongoing social dynamics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of Minangkabau women's position in the matrilineal customary system and the forms of resistance that emerge in the film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. This film shows how women are faced with the dilemma between customary traditions and personal desires, with a focus on the character Hayati. The study uses a qualitative approach with historical methods and critical discourse analysis. The theories used are postcolonial feminist theory and Stuart Hall's theory of representation. The results show that women in Minangkabau customs have a high symbolic position but are practically still controlled by patriarchal structures. The forms of resistance shown are passive and symbolic resistance, showing that women still have agency even within customary limitations. This film is a reflection of social criticism of customary norms that limit women's freedom.

Abstract

Learning science in elementary schools often encounters difficulties due to abstract material presentation and limited student engagement, especially in environmental topics such as ecosystems. Traditional teaching methods and media tend to rely heavily on verbal explanations, which may lead to low learning outcomes. This study aims to examine the influence of paludarium media—an integration of land and aquatic ecosystems in a contained environment—on the science learning outcomes of fifth grade elementary school students, specifically in the topic of swamp ecosystems. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 52 fifth grade students at SDN Gelam II, divided into an experimental class using paludarium media and a control class using conventional learning methods. Data collection was conducted through written tests (pretest and posttest), and data analysis involved validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent samples t-test using SPSS. The results showed a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups. The experimental class experienced a higher improvement in posttest scores compared to the control group. The t-test result indicated a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.013, confirming that paludarium media has a statistically significant positive impact on science learning outcomes.
