Abstract

Mangrove forest is one of the ecosystems in the coastal area that plays an important role as a habitat for iktiofauna, one of which is the gelodok fish community. The purpose of this study was to compare the community structure of mudskippers at Bahak Indah Coast, Tongas, Probolinggo with or without mangrove vegetation. The study was conducted in January–February 2022. The determination of the observation station was carried out purposively, which was determined based on the presence or absence of mangrove vegetation. Observation of the mudskipper community used a systematic sampling method with the help of transects and plots. The analyzed mudskipper community structure data included diversity index, uniformity index and dominance index. The results found 4 species from 2 genera of mudskipper namely Boleophthalmus pectinirostris, Boleophthalmus boddarti, Periophthalmus chrysospilos and Periophthalmodon schlosseri. Mudskipper diversity index at both stations was in the medium category, and was higher at the stations with mangrove vegetation. The uniformity index was included in the high category, and was higher at the stations with mangrove vegetation, and the dominance index was in the low category, and lower at the stations with mangrove vegetation. The results of this study indicate that the coastal waters area with mangrove vegetation contributes to the high diversity and uniformity of the mudskipper community compared to areas without mangrove vegetation.

Abstract

The role of aquaculture is vast in efforts to increase the quality and quantity of fishery products and to meet the nutritional food needs of the people of the Maros and South Sulawesi Regencies. Catfish is one of the fisheries commodities that has good prospects for development. This is supported by the characteristics of catfish, which have high nutritional content, fast growth, are easy to breed, and can be maintained in almost all aquaculture containers. This study examines the flow of catfish marketing and analyses the differences in catfish prices in the Marusu Village, Palantikan Village, Maros Baru District, and Maros Regency. The research method was interviews assisted with a questionnaire instrument. The analysis used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis for marketing channels and farmer's share analysis to measure the efficiency of acceptance of marketing channels for seed and catfish cultivators. The marketing channel for catfish seeds in the Marusu environment consists of 2 channels. Channel 1 starts from cultivators, collectors within the Marusu environment, and outside collectors and ends with cultivators outside the Maros area (consumers), channel 2 starts from cultivators, collectors and cultivators outside the Maros Regency area (consumers). The catfish marketing channel also consists of 2 channels. Channel 1, namely, starts with cultivators, retailers and consumers. Channel 2 is the cultivator directly to the consumer. For catfish fingerlings, farmers in marketing channels 1 and 2 are 75%, respectively. In contrast, the farmer's share in marketing channels 1 and 2 for catfish is 66.67% and 100%.

Abstract

This study examines the traditional local wisdom of the fishing community, North Galesong. This study aims to describe the position of local wisdom in the midst of modernity. This study uses a case study qualitative approach. Data obtained from primary and secondary sources. The data collection technique is done by interview, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the local wisdom of mutual cooperation in the withdrawal of fishing boats in North Galesong has faded since the entry of modernity contamination. The change in the towing of the ship is based on rational considerations related to the effectiveness of work and respect for other community activities. The towing of ships carried out in mutual cooperation is more costly and time consuming. Towing ships using modern tools such as excavators is more efficient.

Abstract

Bonylip barb (Osteochilus vittatus) is one of Indonesia's local fish which is starting to bloom in cultivation. One of the important needs in the development of fish farming is feed, to increase feed efficiency by providing probiotics which play a role in increasing growth, survival rates, digestibility, feed efficiency, the immune system and the composition of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract of fish. This study aims to compare the concentration of different probiotics in commercial feed on the growth and survival of barley nilem (Osteochilus vittatus). The research was conducted at Pandaan Aquaculture Installation (IPB), Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. Statistical analysis to compare growth performance (length and weight) and survival of nilem fish used analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The results showed that there were differences in the growth of weight, length, and survival of barley nilem (Osteochilus vittatus) on commercial feed with different concentrations of probiotics. Where there is a tendency that the higher the concentration of probiotics in commercial feed, the higher the growth in length and weight and survival of nilem fish (O. vittatus).

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems consist of tropical plants that have adapted to the salinity, tidal fluctuations, and loose soil condition. Identification of mangrove ecosystems can be carried out by direct survey methods or by utilizing remote sensing technology. This study aims to map the area, percent cover, and density of mangroves in Makassar City using Sentinel 2A Imagery. The method used is the NDVI transformation, followed by Unsupervised-ISODATA classification, ground check with the 10 x 10-meter plotting method, and hemispherical photography. The results showed that the existence of mangroves in Makassar City was still found in the Tallo and Biringkanaya districts, with 68.81 ha of mangrove ecosystem cover area in the range of 84.36 - 91.89% (dense category). Likewise, the vegetation index based on NDVI analysis ranged from 0.73 - 0.81 (dense category), and the species density was in the range of 2700 - 6400 trees/Ha (dense category). Sentinel-2A imagery transformed with NDVI can be used to track mangrove areas and their density. The wide distribution of mangrove ecosystems in Makassar is relatively small but has good conditions.
