Abstract

Hyperthermia can be defined as a condition of body temperature above normal as a result of an increase in the temperature control center in the hypothalamus. In children who have a fever, the temperature increase is mild, ranging from 37.5-38°C. The impact that can be caused if the fever is not treated is that it can cause brain damage, hyperpyrexia which will cause shock, epilepsy, mental retardation or learning disabilities. To overcome the problem of hyperthermia, several independent nursing actions can be carried out, one of which is the Tepid Water Sponge (TWS). This experiment aims to determine the effect of administering Tepid Water Sponge to patients with hyperthermia in the Wijaya Kusuma Room, Kardinah Tegal Hospital. This experiment was carried out with observations during 3 meetings and interventions for administering the Water Sponge Technique for 3 days on April 14-15, 2025. The results of the first experiment were that the patient's body temperature before being given Tepid Water Sponge was 39.8 Celsius, on the second day there was a decrease in body temperature to 38.2 Celsius, and on the third day the body temperature became 37.5 Celsius. In conclusion, Tepid Water Sponge therapy is effective in lowering body temperature in patients with hyperthermia in the Wijaya Kusuma Room, Kardinah Tegal Hospital.

Abstract

Liver tumors are characterized by the abnormal growth of cells in the liver. Acute pain is one of the common symptoms experienced by patients with liver tumors, significantly affecting their quality of life and psychological well-being. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as Qur’anic recitation (murottal), are increasingly used as complementary methods to reduce pain perception. Surah Ar-Rahman is known to produce calming and relaxing effects, both psychologically and physiologically, through its stable sound waves and repetitive recitation rhythm. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Murottal Therapy using Surah Ar-Rahman in reducing pain intensity among patients with liver tumors. The research design is a descriptive case study involving a 44-year-old male patient diagnosed with a liver tumor and undergoing hepatectomy. The intervention involved administering Murottal Therapy with Surah Ar-Rahman for three days (13–15 January 2025). Pain was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The results showed a gradual reduction in pain intensity from a score of 6 (moderate pain) to a score of 2 (mild pain) after three consecutive days of therapy. The significant decrease in pain intensity indicates that Murottal Therapy with Surah Ar-Rahman is effective as a complementary approach to relieve acute pain in liver tumor patients. These findings support the use of Murottal Therapy with Surah Ar-Rahman as a safe and beneficial non-pharmacological intervention in nursing practice. It is recommended that future researchers explore the application of other non-pharmacological therapies for pain management.

Abstract

Despite the availability of effective pharmacological treatments, blood pressure control remains suboptimal due to medication-related side effects, adherence issues, and limited access to healthcare, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of natural resources in reducing blood pressure among individuals with hypertension, based on evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Medline. Eligible studies were English-language RCTs investigating the effects of medicinal plants, herbal extracts, or natural dietary supplements on systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure. Data were extracted on study design, population characteristics, type of intervention, duration, outcomes, and safety. Twenty-four RCTs were included, covering interventions such as Hibiscus sabdariffa, Nigella sativa, aged garlic extract, oat bran, celery, and polyherbal formulations. Most interventions showed significant reductions in blood pressure, especially in individuals with stage 1 hypertension. Side effects were rare and mild. Conclusion: Natural resources show promise as adjunct antihypertensive therapies, but study heterogeneity limits generalizability. Standardized, large-scale trials are needed.

Abstract

Ineffective breastfeeding is a common issue among postpartum mothers and can hinder the provision of exclusive breastfeeding, which may negatively impact infant growth and development. Non-pharmacological interventions such as oxytocin massage have been proven to improve breastfeeding effectiveness by stimulating the release of oxytocin, a hormone essential for the milk ejection reflex, while also promoting maternal relaxation. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of oxytocin massage in addressing ineffective breastfeeding among postpartum mothers. A descriptive case study design was employed, utilizing a nursing care process approach. The subject was a 34-year-old postpartum mother (Ny. T) on her second day after spontaneous delivery, experiencing difficulties in breastfeeding. Oxytocin massage was administered over a 3-day period from January 13 to 15, 2025, following standard operating procedures (SOP), with each session lasting 15–20 minutes. Evaluation included observation of breastfeeding frequency, expressed breast milk volume, infant suckling strength, and post-feeding infant behavior. The evaluation revealed a significant improvement in breastfeeding effectiveness. The frequency of breastfeeding increased from 3 to 8 times per day, milk volume rose from approximately 5 ml to 30 ml per session, infant suckling strength improved, and the baby appeared satisfied after feeding. The breastfeeding effectiveness score increased from 2 (ineffective) to 4 (effective). Additionally, the mother reported feeling more confident and less anxious. Oxytocin massage proved to be an effective, simple, safe, and low-cost non-pharmacological intervention for enhancing breastfeeding among postpartum mothers. This technique can be integrated into maternal nursing care practices in healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Pregnancies with short interpregnancy intervals remain a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas such as Purbayasa Village, Purbalingga Regency. Intervals of less than 24 months between pregnancies significantly increase the risk of complications for both mother and child, and may negatively affect the quality of parenting. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a family-based educational nursing intervention in improving knowledge and awareness regarding the Family Planning (FP) program as a strategy to prevent closely spaced pregnancies. This research employed a descriptive case study design using the nursing care process, which includes five sequential stages: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a pregnant woman with two children, the second of whom was only 1 year and 10 months old. The intervention was carried out through three home visits focusing on the promotion of health behavior (I.12472) and the promotion of family integrity (I.13490). The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the family's understanding and attitudes toward family planning, along with more collaborative and structured parenting practices. The two nursing diagnoses—health behavior at risk (D.0099) and risk of ineffective parenting process (D.0128)—showed meaningful improvements or were resolved. In conclusion, the structured and participatory educational intervention was effective in enhancing family awareness and behavioral changes related to pregnancy planning and child-rearing.

Abstract

Bronchopneumonia is an inflammatory disease of the respiratory organs that affects several lobes in the lungs. WHO data shows that bronchopneumonia mostly affects children under 5 years old and is the biggest cause of death in children. Bronchopneumonia will generally have typical symptoms such as shortness of breath and coughing. Children under the age of five cannot remove secretions independently so they will experience problems with ineffective airway clearance and children are at high risk of experiencing shortness of breath. Efforts to overcome shortness of breath in bronchopneumonia children can be overcome by using complementary therapies, one of which is eucalyptus oil steam therapy. Eucalyptus oil is produced from the leaves of the melaleuca plant with its largest content of eucalyptol (cineole). The properties of cineole produce mucolytic effects to thin phlegm, relieve breathing, and anti-inflammatory. This study aims to determine the effect of steam therapy with eucalyptus oil on respiratory frequency in patients with bronchopneumonia. This research is an analytical descriptive research with a case study approach. The subjects were children with bronchopneumonia who experienced shortness of breath. The study was conducted by providing steam therapy using warm water mixed with 2 drops of eucalyptus oil in a container and then inhaling the steam for 10-15 minutes, with 3x24 hours of intervention. Data collection was carried out by interview, observation and documentation study. The results showed a decrease in respiratory frequency in the subject from 26x/min to 21x/min. In conclusion, steam therapy with eucalyptus oil is effective in reducing the respiratory frequency of paediatric patients with bronchopneumonia.
