Abstract

The study aims at analyzing the difference of problem solving skills between: (1) the students taught by using problem-based learning model and the ones taught by using guided inquiry learning model, (2) the students taught by using problerm-based learning model and the ones taught by using guided inquiry learning model with male gender, (3) the students taught by using problem-based learning model and the ones taught by using guided inquiry learning model with female gender, and (4) the interaction between problem-based and quided inquiry learning model and gender on problem solving skills of students. The study is quasi-experiment research with treatment by level 2x2 design. The research population was all students of grade X MIA at SMAN 9 Makassar. The technique used in talking the sample was simple random sampling and obtained grade X MIA5 and X MIA7 as the experiment classes and grade X MIA8 and X MIA9 as the control classes. The results of the study reveal that (1) there is a difference of problem solving skills between students taught by using problem-based learning model and the ones taught by using guided inquiry learning model, (2) for male gender students, there is a difference between the ones taught by using problem-based skills and ones taught by using quided inquiry learning model, (3) for female gender students, there is a difference between the ones taught by using problem-based skills and the ones taught by using quided inquiry learning model, and (4) there is no interaction between learning model and gender on problem solving skills of students. This study is expected to be a reference in determining the strategy and innovative learning model to improve learning quality so the students are active in learning process, thus it can improve problem solving skills of students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of the curriculum and the climate of Islamic boarding school on the morals of students in DDI Kaballangang Islamic Boarding School, Pinrang Regency both partially and simultaneously. This type of research is a survey with a quantitative approach. Data collection methods using questionnaires, documentation, and observation. Data analysis using descriptive statistical analysis techniques and inferential statistical analysis techniques. The results showed that the curriculum and climate of the Islamic boarding school had a positive and significant effect both partially and simultaneously on the morals of the students in DDI Kaballangang Islamic Boarding School, Pinrang Regency. Based on the calculation of the coefficient of determination obtained the R Square of 0.014, which means that the curriculum and the climate of Islamic boarding school simultaneously influence 14.0% on the students' morals, while the remaining 86.0% is influenced by other factors not examined in this research.

Abstract

The main problem in this research is the evaluation of the Intensive Al-Qur'an Study (SAINS) program at UNM using the CIPP evaluation model. This study employs a qualitative research approach in evaluating the SAINS program at UNM using the CIPP evaluation model. The data sources of this research are information from members of the drafting panels of the SAINS-UNM program as well as information from the implemented documents of the SAINS program. Furthermore, the data collection methods used were interviews and documentation. Data processing and analysis techniques used in this research were three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusions drawing. The results of this study indicate that from its contextual aspect, the SAINS program at UNM has been done because 4 main reasons: to assist the lecturers of Islamic religion, to improve students’ ability in reading the Qur'an, to eradicate the illiterate of students of the Quran, and to maintain the spirit of reading the Quran among the students. In terms of its inputs, it is apparent that some improvements in particular areas are needed, particularly in planning and conducting curriculum development, tutor recruitment aspect, participants’ attendance, and financial planning and facility. In terms of its process, it was suggested that the program has been well conducted where all the previously planned activities were successfully accomplished. Finally, in terms of its product, it reveals that for those students who participated in the SAINS program, there is an increase in their ability to read the Quran.

Abstract

This study discusses Fazlur Rahman's thoughts which are focused on: (1) the concept of modernization of Islamic education; (2) the variety of modernization of Islamic education; and (3) the implications of his thought on Islamic education in the modern era. This type of research is library research using a philosophical and historical approach. The primary data sources in this study were books written directly by Fazlur Rahman, as well as books relevant to the discussion, while the secondary data in this study were relevant literature materials produced by other thinkers who discussed Fazlur Rahman. The method of data collection in this study used the documentation method and then analyzed using. content analysis techniques. The results show that the concept of modernization of Islamic education according to Fazlur Rahman is that education is the starting point for reform. Any reform model in Islam will never happen without the involvement of education in it. Furthermore, according to Fazlur Rahman, education should be held by prioritizing the freedom of students, because without creative nature, it is difficult for students to develop. The variety of modernization of Islamic education initiated by Fazlur Rahman includes five aspects: educational objectives, education system, educators, students, and educational facilities. The implication of this research is that the modernization of Islamic education leads to the importance of democratizing Islamic education by respecting human potential.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know: (1) the implementation process of the Sufism values in al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School of Temboro Magetan as an effort to face the impact of globalization; (2) supporting factors and obstacles in the implementation process; and (3) the solution provided by the Islamic boarding school when there is an obstacle in the process. This study used a qualitative approach with the case study type. The key instrument is the researcher himself, with data collection techniques used are documentation, observation, and interviews. The data was analyzed by reducing irrelevant data, describing data, and drawing conclusions. Results of the study showed that: (1) Implementation of the values of Sufism in al-Fatah Islamic boarding school of Temboro done by (a) takhalli (emptying ourselves of dependency attitude towards earthly life); (b) tahalli (filling or adorn themselves with inner and outer obedience); and (c) tajalli (unfolding curtain divider between a servant to his god). (2) factors that contribute to the implementation of values Sufism in the Islamic boarding school include: the tariqah Naqsbandiyah Khalidiyah that muktabarah, the Islamic boarding school as a center of Jama’ah Tabligh, the active role of the security department officials, the program of TABANSA (Saving Students), simplicity in life that demonstrated by the caregiver. Whereas the inhibiting factors include: the psychology students were immature, communities and families of students are less favorable. (3) Solutions provided the Islamic boarding schools in overcoming the inhibiting factors are the need for habituation to the students, the patience of the chaplain in assisting the students, and the schools impose limits for students who will be out of the boarding school environment.
